Saints vs Lions. Conversation.

Well it is playoff time here in New Orleans once again. Through the last 6 years we in the Big Easy have become accustomed to the festivities of this special season. In preparation for tonight I have purchased 48 beers, 24 chicken quarters, 2 pounds of catfish fillet to be fried, 2 pounds of Louisiana boudin for appetizers, and a medley of snacks and sides to prepare for the big game tonight against the Lions. With all this preparation going on across this great city, it is easy to forget that just some 7 years ago New Orleans had one of, if not, the worst football team in American history. With that in mind I would like to congratulate all of the Detroit Lions fans for their wonderful season. We here in N.O. know firsthand what it is like to finally be able to get excited about your team, and would like to extend a welcome to any of the Detroit faithful that have chosen to visit our city.
Now with the pleasantries out of the way I would like to open the docket to any trash talking, game previewing, hypothesizing conversations. I will begin.....
Saints 30 > Detroit 24. I think both teams come out red hot (esp if Detroit gets the ball and scores first.) and the first half is reduced to a score fest shootout. Come the second half the Saints will begin to attack with the running game and finally be able to score some insurance points. I think the final will come down to who was kicking less field goals. Also, this is going to be one of the most entertaining games all year. These two teams share much the same attitude and it was entertaining to say the least the first time around.
SHOTS!!!! Jager Shots will be taken at my place for... Every Drew Brees completion for a touchdown. Every slam dunk over the goal post. Every time they mention Hurrican Katrina Every comparison of the 01/02 Lions to the post Katrina Saints (we will not make it to halftime)
Hows about yous guys? what are your festivities for today? any Detroit fans want to chime in?

i want everyone to watch malcolm jenkins. this kid has amazing talent and is getting really good at reading plays. he doesnt stand out so much this year because gregg williams depends a little too much on him, running ballsy, exotic blitzes that leaves jenkins out there on his own to be the last line of defense.
I think we are going to see a lot of big yardage plays from the lions tonight. ,mainly because williams is going to try and fuck with their head, and it will work, but like always, it will give up some big 30 yard passes. Im not too worried about the run game. stafford passed more this season than any other qb, and if i know williams, he is going to be all about keeping them 3rd and long. he works like that. he would rather let them get a first down on a first down than let them get 7-9 yards... somewhat mathematically sound, since a 2nd and 1 is pretty much a 5th down for these teams. so i think there will be crazy blitzes on every lions 1st down. the interesting thing is that the leading sacker on the saints is a CB, not an LB... if that tells you anything about williams blitz packages.
as for the other side.... brees is the least sacked qb in the league. in the dome he averages 1 sack for every 30+ drop backs. evans and bushrod have been setting the pocket like beasts all year. I think Suh will be a key in shutting down the saints new found ability to get 5 or 6 up the center. i think they will be able to keep center rushes down to a 2.8 or so average, and then watch for a lot of sproles screens and graham center field catches afterwards.
the non qb leaders for each team this game are going to be sproles and pettigrew. thats my guess. sure CJ will get a nice bomb or two, but pettigrew will be the oft used release valve.

If the Lions don't get too many penalties I think they can win. If they play flag football, saints will win easily. Neither of these are my team so no celebrating for this game. Think the only teams I like in the playoffs this year are GB and Giants. AFC has the Ravens who I do like, but I can't stand Flacco

I was excited early. They seemed to be playing well on both sides of the ball and then, well then the Drew Brees show happened.

Pitiful excuse for a defense in Detroit, couldn't even force one punt all game. Flynn torched them, then the Saints ran all over them. Eventually Bress quit f'n up in the second half and start hitting receivers. If The Saints handed off all game it would have been 75 - 21

Trust me, I was pulling for Detroit, but it was shameful. The Coach is talking about how bad their defense was right now in the post game presser. He's steaming mad.

Schwartz is a good young coach. A very good young coach.
Dude took an 0-16 team and made them a near contender. For 3 quarters the Lions were right there with the Saints until experience took over.
Within the next 1-2 years the Lions will competing for a Superbowl.

I personally loved it. My friends thought I was going to go into cardiac arrest in the first half and I will admit to being nervous.
What I dont understand is why the Saints didn't just run for 200 yds but oh well, we got the win regardless.
I will say this. The NFC playoffs this year are the most interesting thing on the tube compared to the AFC offerings. I watched the Huston vs. Cincinnati game and couldn't help but thinking..."this is boring as hell". Next week when the Saints face the 49ers I expect an even more entertaining game. Lets go Saints 35 to 21 with another second half comeback.
Any who, this is how the night went down. We cried for the first half. In the second half we took shots for a comparison of the Lions to the 06 Saints, a mention of Katrina, A Drew Brees passing TD and even the Jimmy Grahm TD celebration of dunking the football over the goal post. those 4 shots came within 45 min of each other so I am just starting to feel it now.
Go Saints, and once again, congrats to Detroit for a remarkable season, we are looking forward to seeing you next season....when you are even better.
So now, Saints vs 49ers.... any thoughts? Apparently there are more Saints haters than believers in here...so, let me know what you think.

For a little while there Schwarz had this supremely smug look of "Yes... yes... all goes according to plan, mortals..." and then things started to look more like the dildo scene from Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
I gotta say, though, I would have rather seen any NFL team other than the Lions lose tonight. Not just because of their Cinderella story, but because I spent my formative years at Georgia Tech watching Stafford and Megatron, although I really couldn't stand the former at the time
On that note, go Falcons - rout the Giants, upset the Pack, and come back to the Dome for a third ass whooping!

Thomas is one of those guys that just flies under the radar...that is until he breaks your tackle and picks up 8+ on your ass. Mark my words...Saints Rush to a Superbowl, if they make it.
And yea! they rush for 2 TDs against SF next week.

This. I don't see their vaunted run defense holding up well against the Hydra Cerberus. Nobody's ever shut out Ivory short of an injury. From what I recall, historically that's when we run the ball the most/best, when it's supposedly UNPOSSIBLE!
That and the 49ers season was the NFL equivalent of that movie where Johnny Knoxville is the one non-retarded guy in the Special Olympics.

Funny story that happened to me tonight:
I sent a really, horrific, vile text message to my parents by accident during the game. I'm a Lions fan, and in the midst of my misery (when the wheels completely came off in the 4th) a douche bag coworker decided to text me and remind me that "my team was getting ass raped".
So I shot a text back to him (or so I thought) that was along the lines of, "fuck off you punk pussy bitch, why don't you go suck a dick and blow bubbles with the cum or something".

I had to call the parents and apologize. I told them who I was sending it to and they just laughed it off. Still

But at least I made sure that said text successfully got to the douche bag coworker in the end, though

I agree. If Brees gets the 9ers in a shootout, he'll help tremendously to get the win.
Even though I'm convinced the 9ers will lose, it'll be an interesting test to see how the Saint's offense performs against such a good defense.
If the Saint's O blows them out of the water, it'll be truely impressive.
