I can see how this saying exists, and I can also see how some would think it isn't quite the rule of thumb that others think it is. I personally think its lost in the middle somewhere.

Sure, you can love someone if you don't love yourself. But I just wonder where you gained your love for others and somehow didn't learn to love yourself. I'd also like to wonder what the base emotion is for your love since you don't have this base emotion of love for yourself.
