Why would you hunt Psilocybe cubensis in WA?  It doesn't even grow there.

Plus it's the middle of winter.

Mate we live in the southern hemisphere and it is summer down here.

I am not sure about Perth but Qld is going strong.

My Wii fit thinks its winter too, but yeah - it's summer in Perth WA (West Australia).

I've wondered if cubes grow in Qld in warm moist temps that surely the environment in WA could support them?
Just need cows, a thunderstorm like we had a few days ago... and maybe?

He probably thought WA stood for the state of Washington in the USA and not Western Australia.

and yes its smack bam in the middle of summer and we had a thunderstorm a few days b4 the post and then every night after it had rained there are horse and cow pastures just out side secret harbour.

and suchen i know that cubes dont grow here but subcubensis on the other hand are probibly more likly

so chill people im not just randomly going out and hoping to find mushrooms

I think they are the same taxon.  You can't describe a new species on spore size alone and expect people to take you seriously.

Alan was saying that he believes Psilocybe cubensis and Psilocybe subcubensis are one and the same. Good luck on your hunt, dude :sunny:

There is conflicting information regarding the two species. No offense, but it sounds  like you need to research more information. Don't worry about finding something that is rare and quite undocumented, but rather concentrate on the actives that are common in your area. Move on to new species after you get a feel for what you should be looking for.

I know it seems rare for me to be finding cubes, but my source used to work on this horse farm near by and she said people would always break in at night and pick the gold and white mushrooms. so i thought i had a good chance.

its hard to find summer growing fungi around here so far ive only found some dried old mushrooms and 1 healthy suspected poisonous mushrooms.
but yes i do need more research as I have only gotten into fungi hunting since the end of the last season.
i have done a bit of research but I had done it all too quickly and it all just jumbled up in my brain hahah :crazy2:

I am going down to dwellingup for camping and also a bit of a forage today. hopefully ill find something don't even care if its active or not :rasta:

These cubes have come up in a tub of coir in my greenhouse, bout an hour from Perth.

This is a tub that I've been putting some of my old cakes in.

Though it has been humid enough the past few days for these cubes to grow I don't think they would last long 'outside'.
When the pins first arose I noticed the caps drying and added the lid.

It may be cooler down south but round here, they'd cook if they were out in the sun or even the shade.

If you find anything interesting during your hunt whattherast, please do post some pics:thumbup:

Absolutely awesome! I knew cubes could grow in WA ;-)

Olive u da man!

I drove down Mandurah way this weekend, after some good rainfall.. looking for cubes/ and or anything... Found nothing. Even though there was an unnatural amount of rain, and the temps were high.. i think the humidity dropped off too fast too see anything. And i couldnt find anything... sigh..
oh well - im not gonna stop lookin ;-) Peace.
