any reason why you didnt pasturize? you will prob have to raise your dog house even if you dont get large fruits, just my 2 cents.

From what ive read its not necessary to pastuerize when growing outside. I mean wild shrooms grow out of Shit... cant get much dirtier than that. As i stated i want to make this as simple as possible. WE will see, i mean maybe it wont work. I believe it will though.

Things are finally starting to dry out around here so I gave my patch it's first good misting. Not alot just enough to give it a good glisten. I will update periodically along the way and soon as there is something new to see I will post pics.

you think the doghouse on top will dry your patch out faster considering rain cant get to it?

i personally would take the dog house off.. i feel like the lack of light and airflow would cause problems..

Just place dead leaves over the top of the patch mixed with straw.
Patches work best when they only receive limited amount of light ive noticed. Not too much and not too little.
I would have placed the patch next to a shrub or bush on the east or west side of it.

The patch is in my backyard so i have no problem misting it if necessary but if is a good rain (like it is right now) it will get plenty of moisture.

There is plenty of FAE considering we grow them indoors in a box and they do just fine. I was just sitting here yesterday wondering about the light situation. its been cloudy for the last three days and I know it hasn't gotten much light as of yet. I think if I raise the dog house up just a little more and mow my stupid grass that it will get enough indirect light but im not positive of this. We should get some sun over the next few days and i will definitely be outside checking it out to see if i believe its going to be enough.

I thought about putting straw on top but wasn't sure because i know its nutritious and didnt want it to colonize. What do you think? Im going to work out the light situation one way or another. I dont have any shade producing trees or shrubs in my backyard and i fully intend to be discreet so its got to be hidden by something.
Thanks for all the feedback this is a learning experience for me and i will be considering any pointers i get.

Well i just got a call last night that is going to send me out of state for close to a month. Ive got two weeks before i have to go. Im hoping that maybe i can get at least one flush by then but as this is my first outdoor grow experiment i have my doubts. Mrs. urbanguru can check on them for growth while im gone but this is not her gig if u know what i mean. Anyway i will be updating over the next couple of weeks with any progress. thanks

Went out and checked on my patch today and so far so good. No bug or snail issue and I brushed some dirt aside and it appears to be knitting together nicely. Misted lightly with a really weak coffee and water mix. I've heard alot of people use coffee successfully so I'm going to give it a try and see how it goes.

Does the mrs know how to take pictures? Yes
Does the mrs know how to post to the Shroomery? Not if i gave her a million dollars and her life depended on it! but she does know how to send the pics to me on my iphone and i can take care of it from there.
Hopefully i will be here for the first flush and i will definately post pics...as long as my mushies cooperate.

Do i have to worry about them while its colonizing? I would think it would only be a problem after it starts fruiting....correct?
Thanks guys for the interest

everything appears to be coming along nicely. Took a look this afternoon and saw a little myc that was poking through the thin layer of soil. keeping fingers crossed that it happens in the next week.
