You should dunk the blocks by submerging them in a bucket full of cold water for 24 hours before fruiting. This will help increase your yield.

A little moisture is normal. I wouldn't worry too much about it. You got a pic?

Technically I fruited them yesterday and removed that little bit of water by turning the bags over to drain and then using a paper towel.  The fruiting process has begun, though not totally in earnest because I don't have the timer yet to automate the humidifier. I just woke up and I'm getting that immediately but I'm going to dunk these bags now.  I can't imagine that the little bit of time that I had them out of the dark and into the greenhouse will make for catastrophic results if I dunk them now.

Thank you for reminding me about dunking them.

No, it won't hurt. It will b more beneficial to dunk them now as opposed to not dunking at all.

Besides that sounds like your on the right track.

Reishi are  really easy going mushroom to grow but take a long time to fruit in most cases.

Th only exception to that rule is if the block is contaminated, then they sometimes fruit early due to the stress.

Good luck and post a link once you have some pix!

PPH, sorry for reviving a month old thread.

I hope you could enlighten me about a few questions I've got:

1) What's the quantity of substrate you have in the bag?  (Weight)
2) Ratio of spawn to substrate?
3)After dunking the blocks in cold water for 24 hours, do you roll them in any other material?

Thank you.

1. ~6lbs. (hydrated and prepped,) here is a link to a really easy tek for sawdust blocks, http://myco-tek.org/content.php?149-Lipa-s-Pasteurized-Fuel-Pellet-Tek

2. I used 1 quart of rye per block, this is actually pretty high but I was running out of reishi so I      wanted it to colonize a little faster than usual. It worked,

3. No roll of any sort,.
I just fruited them in a shotgun fruiting chamber and misted them ~3-4 times a day.

Hope that helps.... Just in case you have any other q's I will pop back in and check on the thread in a little bit,

-PP.

Thanks for noticing this old thread and replying.  So, what's the optimum quantity of spawn for 6lb? 1/2 quart?

Very nice grow prof!

Can you elaborate on your supplemented sawdust, as in what did you supplement with
and how much?  I appreciate any info!  :-)

No problem,

Yea, 1/2 jar is usually what I use on a 5-6 lb block,

I supplemented them with a 1/2 cup of wheat bran / block. ....
