It seems to me that a lot of people end up becoming racist after having a lot of bad encounters with a particular race.
It's robably no accident that many racist live or have lived where there are a lot of black people. Conversely it seems to be true that a majority of people that don't understand prejudice grew up in communities with very few black people.

It seems to me that a lot of people end up becoming racist after having a lot of bad encounters with a particular race.
Same goes for black people, but I think one experience is probably enough depending on the severity. For a white person getting mugged or getting beat the shit out of him might be enough. For a black person having a history as a slave might be enough.
It's robably no accident that many racist live or have lived where there are a lot of black people.
I know of people who live in a community where there are more or less no black people, yet they are still racist.
Conversely it seems to be true that a majority of people that don't understand prejudice grew up in communities with very few black people.
I grew up in a community where there were no black people and I'm quite sure I understands prejudice.

In that case, wouldn't prejudice be warranted? I'm not saying that hate or intolerance is acceptable, but I think a certain degree of prejudice should be developed after having multiple "bad encounters" with the same race. It might even save your life.
Anyways, I think a person's neighborhood(or local demographic) is usually a better signal of their character, rather than race. Though, in my area, most neighborhoods are almost completely segregated lol.
