My only concern for you is starvation mode where the body takes all the nutrition it can spare and packs it away. Also chewing foods, the lack of saliva helping break down and absorbing some nutes before it gets into your stomach.
The idea is eating macro nutrient rich food keeps your body from starvation mode. People usually juice fast with kale because it has more macro nutrients than any other food. ...Not eating the calories while getting the nutrients to function.
Thats what how I understand it.

Ah, I'll take a 3 day stab at this then in a few weeks after I do a body cleanse.

Day 8 - A full week in ,3 more to go.
Feeling great. Absolutely surrounded by people eating most of the day and it drove me crazy, but I'm outta there and feeling better already. I've also been feeling more and more confidence that I can indeed go the full 30 days. I have little jolts of thinking I wanted to just grab some food and eat it, but its past the point of my actually doing it. Kind of like a daydream of punching somebody who's pissing you off in the mouth.
Anyways, yeah, feeling good, As of last night I'm still right around 224 so it didn't go down much yesterday. But my clothes are fitting noticeably better everyday. My shirts are hanging off my shoulders again instead of being held up by my stomach, lol.
I'll weigh myself later and let you all now how it is.

Thanks man! I'd like to think I did my homework sufficiently. I suppose its a bit different for everybody, but I have full confidence that I'm doing a huge favor for my health through all of this. Its certainly not easy, but anything worth doing hardly ever is.
Thanks for stopping in

Damn there are some seriously uninformed people posting bout this. Juice fasts do more than help you lose fat they help balance your body's systems out they help your stomach absorb nutrients better and all the fiber from the veggies is the biggest cleansing factor. It cleans out your arteries, your lymphatic system, and your lungs. When you buy a body cleanse you ll notice you ll ALWAYS get a fiber pill with it that you take twice a day and its made from juiced and compressed veggies. What i dont think people get is your get everything you need from fruit n veggie juices your body WILL NOT starve, which means your body WILL NOT eat its own muscle. Your muscles are actually FLUSHED with more nutrients and amino acids than you can imagine. Its why you feel VERY energetic and also feel very pumped up muscles feel hard when you "juicing" lmao. It will however burn fat if your burning more calories than your ingesting from the juices, which is easy to do. Fat is basically stored energy for our bodys. I actually tend to put a few extra pounds of muscle on when i do juice fasts. I can drop 15 and uncover my abs in less than a month. You gotta think when you juice your food you are ingesting WAY WAY WAY more food then you could eat whole.

It is also why, if not managed properly with a supplement like whey protein isolate, yoyo dieters can be clinically obese. Fashion models are a good example of this, they use these types of diets to lose otherwise healthy weight. In the end they still end up obese at 110 lbs because the fat level is high relative to the weight. The best way to lose fat and retain muscle is with a balance of all food groups, and excersise that consumes more caloric value than is ingested. Sorry to burst your juice bubble, but them's the facts son. Unfortunately, this is also the slow route and will not appeal to instant gratification thinking.

Here is a follow up from Wiki. For the full article = Google!
"Muscle loss during weight loss can be restricted by regularly lifting weights (or doing push-ups and other strength-oriented calisthenics) and by maintaining sufficient protein intake. Those on low-carbohydrate diets, and those doing particularly strenuous exercise, may wish to increase their protein intake. According to the National Academy of Sciences, the Dietary Reference Intake for protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight for adults."
So, in the absence of carbs and excersise, increase protein intake.

OP I know you started this thread for suggestions and input. But would you mind helping me out? I would like to do this, for a week or so. If you don't mind answering a few questions they are:
How much juice would I be allowed to drink in a day and when?
I see you said you drink tea, well I am a heavy coffee drinker but I drink it black is this allowed?
And is it ok to work out while on this diet?

I don't think people are trying to dissuade as much as we are bringing up other facts and things that may not have been considered. I'm gonna do this for a few days starting Monday and see how it goes for sure.

You can drink as much as you'd like to feel full. I normally drink three 8 oz. glasses throughout the day. With a bunch of water, and maybe 3-4 mugs of tea ( I like the Yogi brands)
You can choose to do whatever you'd like, but I chose to give up coffee and caffeinated beverages (my tea has no caffeine). Again, you can do whatever you'd like.
Yes, I work out every day. I lift weights every morning, and I try to go to the gym and do some heavy cardio for at least thirty minutes straight. Then I usually swim for a half hour or so, and hit the jacuzzi and sauna for about 15 minutes each.

Ok.... protein people...
I'M GETTING PROTEIN. There is a TON of protein in plants. You DON'T NEED MEAT/WHEY PROTEIN. This thread isn't a debate about protein, I'm not concerned with protein, nor am I concerned with a small amount of muscle loss during this. I was getting too fat, and I decided to make a change in my lifestyle. Jump started by this juice fast. I KNOW the best way to lose weight is healthy food and plenty of exercise which I am planning on continuing after this fast.
I feel like everyone who's came in here preaching about protein didn't even take the time to read what I've wrote. Its not a Tropicana orange juice/apple juice fast. Its a vegetable fast with a small amount of fruit thrown in every once in awhile. I'm not trying to come off as a dick but I'd just like to drop the whole protein thing for now and just focus on my goal as it stands.

I hopped on the scale last night by the way.
Lost 3.5 lb on day 8 - 1 full week from when I started. Starting weight - 236 Current weight - 222
That is a grand total of 14 lbs. in the first week. It is said you normally lose the most in the first week. Then it gradually tapers down until you don't lose much at all. In which time the fast has done it's work and it time to move on and continue your healthy lifestyle until you lose the remaining weight you may wish to lose.
But I gotta say - 14 lbs in a week is pretty amazing to me. My energy is up, I don't feel nearly as sluggish as before I started. Yes I do have periods of extreme tiredness, crankiness, and sometimes grabbing a snickers bar and taking a huge bite crosses my mind. But everything passes, and normally passes very quickly. I'm enjoying the green juices more and more and truly feel my body healing itself. It's kind of hard to explain. But something I would suggest to anyone.

lol, son....alright. A Juice DIET is not yoyo dieting i dont give a flying crap how bad you wanna think it is its not. Them the facts there son. A juice diet CAN contain protien soy protien milk protien BEEF PROTIEN dosnt matter you can decide what you put in. Do you seriously think your not getting loaded with more fiber and carbs protien vitamin nutrient minerals than your body can absorb when your juicing 1lb worth of fresh veggies, nuts, fruits at a time into a glass then drinking it. Trust me son, if your use to eating shit food and switch to this diet suddenly youll blow out colon promptly. This isnt a freaking fast its A DIET CHANGE~.

I see that Jonny has answered. But I suppose I wanna answer too. ;-)
Drink as much or as little as you wish. It's pretty common for me to drink up to 3 quarts of juice a day when juice fasting. The more you drink the slower the detox and also the more nutrients you are flooding your body with. The less you drink the quicker the detox.
IMO and many others, I would suggest to stay away from stimulants while fasting. But of course you can listen to your body and decide if drinking caffinated tea is something you wanna do while fasting.
Yes you can work out while fasting. But be aware that you have the potential to push yourself a little too far while fasting. You could up your juice intake though and that will help too while working out.
JonnyBtreed - congratulations, on the first week done. It is nice to see that you did you homework and you aren't listening to the few that seem to not know too much about fasting. ;-)
It's also very nice to see a few others come in here and support ya with knowledge. Instead of like some that are trying to spread fears of something they likely haven't experienced before.

Thank you guys for your interest. I'm here - completely unbiased. I've had success before but I had no idea what 4 weeks instead of 1 would be like. I knew it was going to be a challenge to myself and that's about it. But so far, I'm very happy with everything. I do feel like my body is shedding tons of terrible crap and the sporadic headaches and muscle aches and organ aches come and go, and after something really hurts for a bit, I tend to feel MUCH better after it passes.
I'm already fitting into clothes I haven't worn in year and the stuff I usually wear is starting to really loosen up and hang off me. Especially my pants. I've been a size 38 for a while now and now I've got about 2 inches off that and the pants are making my thighs and calves look tiny! Its really weird. I can fit comfortably back into a size 36 with a little room to spare. I'd really like to get back down to a size 32 before the end of this thing.

Damn all this is good to hear. You inspired me so much, I literally just got back from the store with all kinds of veggie juice. Im only trying a week at first. My girlfriend was looking at me at all crazy like when I started loading the cart with all that veggie juice. She's like what are getting all that for? So I explained, and she replys "Your just fine the way you are baby, and if this is an attempt to get out of cooking you've lost your mind." I wanted to say "I wouldn't even make you eat your own cooking baby.", but vagina will learn you to keep your thoughts to yourself sometimes. Anyways keep it up man.
