I dunno, i get the feeling that females feel like they're automatically socially accepted, and that guys have to prove their worth whenever their around girls. Why is a person's even important at all? It's not to me, it's just this stupid culture.

I think the majority of people that I know are not cool, not even myself. It really takes a special person to make me think that they're cool and it usually ends up being males. Males tend to have more personality and don't take things as seriously as women.

Dude, for example: a girl posts on the shroomery, and everybody is on her vagina. But when some guys talk to her, people automatically think theyre trying to hit on her, and some people think theyre not cool enough. Pretty much, in a conversation between girls and boys on the shroomery, every girl (except for Ellen) is automaticaly cool, and some guys automatically are not cool just because their guys and their trying to talk to a girl.
Its fucking stupid, sex should not mean anything. Just because your a girl doesnt mean Im trying to talk to you to get laid, and it doesnt mean that everybody should automatically respect u.

i don't believe there is any room for generalization in the delicate dynamic that is interpersonal relation between men and women. to say its this way or that way cannot be. there is too much variety. the sweetest girl i've ever known, who turned out to be a virgin and went on to be my gal for 3 years perused me. she certainly ain't no slut. i think you're making too much of things op... you have to not worry about it all so much and it sort of just works itself out. just be yourself and don't worry. easier said than done, i know...

sounds like you have to rely on other people to determine who you are where in reality you are gonna be who you are whether people are there or not its called self confidence when you dont give a fuck about what other people are thinking about you bc you are already confident that you are you and you is fine with you. Imagine how easy life must be if you're a hot chick.
You get showered with attention your whole life. It doesn't matter if you're super-shy, or even a total bitch, guys will still trip over each other trying to impress you. They pay to take you out on dates, for presents, and pretty much anything else you want. You don't even have to work, you can just be a gold digger and marry some rich guy who will take care of you. If you tire of him, you just get divorced and take half of everything he has since he had the privilege of being your husband for a while.

Confidence is a huge thing! I've turned down good looking guys because they have no confidence. Men that approach you with no confidence usually give off a bad vibe and the feeling that they have emotional problems.
I wouldn't call myself hot but I'm not bad looking and the majority of guys that talk to me are just trying to hit on me. It's not as awesome as you might think it is. I've lost many good guy friends when they realize that they're just my buddy and I have no interest past that. Women do reach a point where we get tired of it and stop giving men the time of day. It's not that we are stuck up, we actually get sick of guys being quick and trying to get in our pants or the ones that are slower and develope a friendship first then ruin it because you don't have feelings for them in return.

Bars with decent house music(if that's possible where you are), girls dancing to house/minimal/electro in a bar is a pretty good sign as it is, especially if they are not with guys.

In general I understand you hypothesis that more is expected of women, but it's not universally true. The sorts of pressure(s) you are referring to are largely determined by socio-economic class, ethnicity, and country in which one were born.
Upper-class 1st generation desi girls with well educated parents probably have some of the craziest/most contrary expectations placed upon them. They're expected to look pretty, do extremely well in school, uphold traditional culture, integrate into American society fully, go to an Ivy League, get a professional degree, give up career aspirations after obtaining said degree, marry a guy of Indian descent in what is often a parental-arrange marriage, pop out a bunch of grandchildren, be a stay-at-home mom who runs the house hold and spends most of the day cleaning and cooking labor-intensive food and taking care of the children because even though a maid would be affordable using help would make you a bad mother/house wife. And if you're unlucky and your husband is an ass, divorce is absolutely unacceptable except in the most dire cases in your culture and you'll be an outcast if you initiate divorce proceedings or legal action against your husband if he hits you. Actually most of what I described applies to women in quite a few other minority groups in the US.
White women have it a little easier typically because they don't have to straddle American and traditional culture--which doesn't seem like a huge burden, but it can be. Also marriages are not arranged, divorce is the norm., most upper-class white girls aren't expected to obtain any education higher than an undergraduate degree (if that!), white-guilt precludes white folk from expecting their women to give up career aspirations after taking the time to obtain a professional degree, hiring maids/nannies is acceptable/normal/expected, and few husbands/families complain about eating out/quickly prepared food. Individual husbands may expect differently, but if they do they can get kicked to the curb.
I can't think of a clear example where men in general have more expectations placed upon them than women, but don't discount the stress/pressure of being successful career-wise in an acceptable profession as a male or the stress of being the sole-provider.

Girls don't automatically think they're cooler than guys unless you're hanging out with 8-22 year old girls or the wrong girls. The princess expectations and sexual dynamic issues mentioned by later posters are different issues. Yes, those things can be frustrating as hell, and even very sweet girls who believe in equality of the sexes can occasionally exhibit those behaviors.
The only one that really bothers is the fact that I'm expected to be understanding that if she doesn't feel like having sex then she doesn't feel like having sex. Sure, I can accept that and I'll never push the issue at the time. But I realized as I got older that the same expectation does not apply to girls when they want to have sex with me and I don't feel like it. But if you ever want to see a woman go batshit insane, tell her you're not in the mood/tired/have a headache and turn so your back is facing your when she wants to have sex with you. I guess since we're supposed to always want sex, the fact that move when performed by a woman is some times a passive-aggressive 'I'm mad at you' cue or a fake excuse for not wanting sex, and she's horny it's like telling her she's ugly, inadequate, bad at sex, and you don't like her really all at once. Every time I've said that it's been an angry whirlwind interspersed with lots of 'please put your penis in me looks'. It's very annoying. I guess that's how a woman feel when you incessantly give her the 'please let me put it in your vaj-jay-jay' look after she tells you she doesn't want sex. But those looks and the  don't stop!
Lord forbid you try to point out how much of hypocrite she is for never taking one for the team and bugging the hell out of you for not wanting to have sex when you are legitimately too tired/not feeling well. Then the really won't stop. If you ever find yourself in that situation with a girl you really like when she's not annoying you, don't decide to 'give her what she wants' when you're pissed off and not in the mood. It doesn't turn out well... best case scenario she really likes really rough sex, but if she doesn't...
