"Treasure Coast" Grow Log
Written By: LiftedMinds
Spawning Tek: PF Tek
Casing Tek: ??? - Don't know yet still reading around. So many options. Suggestions?
Supplies:
(1) Treasure Coast Spore Print
Substrate/Spawning (1) 2 lb Bag of Organic Brown Rice Flour (1) Bag of Vermiculite (1) Case of 12 Kerr Regular Mouth Canning Jars
Sterilization (1) Bleach (1) Rubbing Alcohol (1) Hand Sanitizer (1) Large Plastic Bag (for air box) (1) Extra Large Pot (1) Medium Pot
7/29/11- Sterilized lab area of work with bleach and rubbing alcohol. Sterilized Pots and Jars and let them dry. Mixed 6 cups of vermiculite with 2 cups of BRF, mixed them together thoroughly. Next 2 cups of water was added and that was mixed in thoroughly. Each Jar was filled up with Substrate and the lid was tightened. Began boiling the water for sterilization in the Extra Large pot and the Medium pot. Once water began boiling the jars were tightened and put into the pots (so water was halfway on each jar.) The lids were placed on the pots and the water boiled for 90 minutes to sterilize substrate. Once the 90 minutes were up the pots were left to cool down with the lids on. Once the pots were cooled the jars were taken out so the lids could be tightened. Jars were then left overnight to cool.
7/30/11- DAY 01 Sterilized lab area of work with bleach and rubbing alcohol. Sterilized Large plastic bag by wiping down the inside with alcohol and bleach. Hands were sterilized with Hand sanitizer. Jars were loaded into bag with spores ready to be introduced into substrate. Wrapped syringe tip in a alcohol soaked piece of gauze inside bag (This is where the syringe would be in-between inoculations as well.) Quickly opened each lid and 1 cc of spores were inoculated into each jar (4 corners, 1 center) and lid was fastened tightly quickly. This was repeated until all jars were inoculated. (Dropped a Jar during inoculation, first contamination.)Jars were placed into rack and stored in a Dark place at a steady 74-80 degrees.
8/3/11- DAY 05 Labeled each jar. Checked the jars for growth or contamination and saw that 4 out of the 11 jars left were showing definite signs of growth. Will be checking again 8/8/11.
So far the first grow is going as planned for my Dog. Thus far she really enjoys this hobby as it has 2 of her favorite things Science and Shrooms. the stats are as follow:
CONTAMINATED JARS: 1/12
JARS WITH GROWTH: 4/12
NO GROWTH YET: 7/12

Thanks for the info! It called for 1 cup Verm, 1 cup BRF and 1 cup Water. Just doubled it so there would be enough for sure.

Another reason this strain was decided on. Fast Colonizer, and from what I hear huge fruits.

A long way to go but, now my dog is researching casing teks. Really interested in breaking up the mycelium how it covers the whole FC.. But being a first timer doesn't know if fruiting on the cakes would be wiser being the first time. Or 1/2 directly on cakes and 1/2 break up the mycelium.

well, you have 11 cakes. and this is up to you, now i will say do them as cakes. but you could go and buy one of thesehttp://www.epinions.com/content_119266578052 and then get a brick of coco coir all totaling around 8 dollars(under 10 for sure) take half that brick, a pint of verm,(gypsum would help a lot/leave out the coffee tho) get to field capacity, pasteurize, then take 3 of the 11 cakes and use a cheese grater(makes way more inoculation points in the sub IME) and mix in the cake then the coir leaving that good ol 1/4 - 1/2 inch(id go with the 1/4) for strait coir verm top layer, place in a clear bag so you can see in. then wait. 2 weeks later it will look like this i gave that 1 too a buddy cos i was leaving town and he told me it yielded an OZ. just a suggestion but indeed do what you feel comfortable with. i myself am going to try 2 jars of the wbs i have in a container like that but with a mono style not the hybrid.
edit: and thinking about it, my cake i have now(only 1) yielded only 2 big fruits, whereas that tub had more meatier, taller fruits than just 3 cakes them selves (i saw the result when i was picking up a bag of dank after my trip)

Thanks for the info. That's another awesome tek to put into consideration. That's what's so cool, so many options and variables. My Pup also sterilized some more substrate jars this morning for FST, gotta start a new grow log for that one. Heard so many good things about TC that's why for the first it's choice.Quote:

Yeah, there were no wide mouth jars anywhere. Rread you could use the regular mouth so just got those. Hoping to just spoon that initial chunk out that is trapping the rest of the cake. (Where the mouth part goes in.) then the rest would fall out. So 2 cakes per jar. Would that work?

Just picked my 2nd flush from my TC's a couple days ago. This was my first time as well. I had one contam throughout and the rest have done great.
Just got 8 jars of GT ready last night, so those are on their way now, hopefully ready around the time my TC's are done. Anyone know how many flushes I should expect before nutrients run out and growth stops/slows down considerably? (sorry for hijakcing thread..)

In reality if the cake breaks when attempted to take them out of the regular mouth jar couldn't you use the "pieces" as separate cakes? Or break them up to do bulk casing?
