Amy Winehouse Dead

RIP

Troubled, Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her North London home, Sky News is reporting. The Daily Mail reports that police have confirmed the passing.
In a statement, the London Metropolitan Police said, "Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."
A suspected drug overdose took the life of the singer, Nick Buckley of the Sunday Mirror tweeted.
She's battled drug addiction for years, having most recently checked back into rehabilitation in May.
Winehouse entered treatment in late 2007 for drug problems, including admitted heroin use.
Earlier in the day, Tim Gatt of Sky News tweeted a statement from her manager saying that she was canceling upcoming performances, writing, "Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances. Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen."
She performed in a surprise appearance at the iTunes Festival on July 20th.
Winehouse has had previous near-death experiences, including one her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, described in detail back in 2009.
"I knelt over her as she kept on fitting. But then suddenly she just passed out and stopped breathing," he told The Sun (via NME). It was the most frightening thing I had ever seen. I felt sure I was watching her die right in front of me. I didn't know what to do or how to save her. I held her to me - and I thought she was dying in my arms. But somehow I managed to open her mouth and breathe air down her throat."
In January, 2010, she pled guilty to assaulting a theater stage manager.
In 2008, after some confusion, a spokesperson for Winehouse confirmed that she had "early signs of what could lead to emphysema."
UPDATE: Sky News Home Affairs Correspondent Mark White reports that sources confirmed that Winehouse died of a drug overdose.
UPDATE II: In a statement to Just Jared, Monte and Avery Lipman, heads of Universal Republic Records, said: “We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer. Our prayers go out to Amy’s family, friends and fans at this difficult time.”

That's too bad. She was a very talented woman. I enjoyed her music. Unfortunately she was better known for her alcoholism and drug addiction the past few years than her songs. RIP.

It's hard for me to feel sorry for her. She had her chance and wrecked it. Nothing in comparison to 92 innocent people being murdered yesterday.

I like how this was posted in the drug news section before it was even confirmed that she died of drugs....because everyone just knew.
She was pretty talented, and her death (and life, for that matter) was pretty tragic. R.I.P.

Quote:
It's the age when you realise that the first flush of youth is truly over; the age when you teeter on the cusp of real life; the age when young athletes reach their peak. Hell, it's even the age when you can no longer use your young person's railcard...27, the doorway into adulthood, is a year imbued by history with a tragic resonance, nowhere more so than in the world of rock music where a scarily high number of “legends” have died aged 27, spawning the mythical “27 club”.
It came about in 1994 when Kurt Cobain, barely 27, shot himself in the head, his body pumped full of heroin and Valium. Twenty-five years earlier, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Brian Jones had all died aged 27, the first three apparently from drug overdoses and Jones from an “accidental drowning” that to this day is shrouded in mystery and rumours of murder. There were plenty more too: for example, Robert Johnson, the Delta bluesman, who was poisoned, or Ron McKernan, the alcoholic Grateful Dead bassist.
“Of course late twenties is not that old,” says Linda Blair, a clinical psychologist. “But we spend an awful lot of our twenties defining ourselves with our jobs, with our relationships. When we reach 27 we've been trying so hard to reach certain goals - fame, money, success - that we might suddenly realise for the first time that we're not that happy after all. And we are supposed to be grown-up and responsible, and we don't feel ready.” Which is perhaps why it is so sad when people die at that age. Now interest in the “27 club” has been reignited by an exhibition featuring rare and unseen photographs of the five “main members”, opening tomorrow at the Proud Camden gallery, North London.
What was it these 27-year-olds had in common? Were they all just not ready to grow up? Jeremy Simmonds, author of Number One in Heaven: The heroes who died for Rock ‘n' Roll, agrees that the tragedy of a life lived fast, lost early, will always contribute to an artist's reputation. “But you also need to be what Americans refer to as a heritage artist,” he says. “Someone who's made a real difference to rock‘n'roll. Hendrix, Joplin, The Doors, Nirvana, The Stones - these are all bands and individuals whose music was truly great. And they never got to finish. Who knows what they would have gone on to produce if they were alive today?”

If the news was about Coaster dying, I would have felt genuine remorse, and it'd have been a sobering lesson, which my friends and I would have drunk to. As it is, a manufactured house of wine robot has popped it's cloggs.
The news on the telly was having a field day last night "our most important story." Oh boo hoo, some junkie slut died. It's a real, real tragedy. If kate bush died from a heroin overdose, that'd have been sad. If either of the girls from Shakespears sister died, that'd have been sad. A girl that made a song "they wanted to take me to rehab but I said no" dying from an overdose is almost comical.
This is no way near as tragic as say, Fukushima (still killing people. Japanese beef now enjoys more ceasium 123 than any other place in the world, including Ukraine) or Libya, where men, women and children are being blown to pieces in a humanitarian peace mission. But lots of people will sob and go "oh no, what a tragedy!" Because a pop artist is dead.

Fuck yes.

So she was the one responsible for that terribly obnoxious "Rehab" song that sucked in the first place, and then was overplayed for 6 months.

Sordid final hours of a troubled star: Amy Winehouse had 'bought ecstasy, cocaine and ketamine' on the night before tragic death
The sordid details of Amy Winehouse's final hours emerged today, with claims that she bought a cocktail of narcotics including cocaine, ecstasy and ketamine.
Although the exact cause of death has not yet been released by police, it is claimed she was seen buying drugs from a dealer in Camden just after 10:30pm on Friday.
A source told The People that she was seen buying substances, believed to be cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and ketamine leading up to the hours before her death.
She is also thought to have been drinking heavily, which may have been the trigger of a lethal concoction of drugs and alcohol.
The source told the newspaper: 'Amy seemed determined to have a big one on Friday night.
It's a long article, but there is a chunk of it.

I think that 5 grammy awards is proof of talent, though its not really my cup of tea. I think that its a little sad to the extent of she had it all and killed herself while an average of more then 20,000 children die everyday as the result in one way or another of poverty.

C'mon, show a little respect. Seeing her wheeled out in a body bag was a depressing sight. Did people post the same shit when Heath Ledger got wheeled out the same way? What a waste of amazing people when most are just conditioned clones.

Hmm, talent? Hey, Willie! What do you think of the girl with a bird's nest for a head?

Just because she's dead I'm not about to show false respect to someone I never ever respected.
And when Heath Ledger died, eh, I didn't care. He wasn't as annoying as her. I was far more affected by ythe recent death of my uncle, who better than those two, a real genius, who didn't even reach 50.
But then again, I see a lot of myself in him.

Another sudden death of participant in recent Gaga hit.
I had heard recently that Bruce Springstein's famous saxophone man from way back since the '70's 'Born to Run' album died last month (June. 23rd) But tonight I just saw Gaga's May 23rd video, "Edge of Glory" which shows only her and Clemons in a song about the glory of the moment of death...
