I hate positive messages in songs, makes me feel all icky. That's why I can't even stand U2 lol.
I downloaded some Gift of Gab and that's some boring-ass shit all day bro. Not impressed with the delivery and the beats are snoozers for sure. Just not the type of hip-hop I would listen to.

The songs I like from Gift of Gab are when hes in Blackalicious, which is when he makes beats with Cheif Xcel.
I personally like my music like I enjoy my psychedelics. Deep, complex, layered beats, cutting lyrics in their truth and positivity, still in touch with the harsh realities of life but with faith in the ability for humans to change their surroundings for the better of mankind as a species.

Meh. I dislike both. Parts of it sound good but the lyrics fail to capture me. I can't pretend to relate to those things at all. They don't speak to me or the values I live my life by.
I also don't like the beats. They are in a different category to me. They're like what Tupac and Biggie rap about. Its fun to bump it with a good sound system, but when I want to listen to real shit produced by people with actual talent, and intelligence....
I'll throw on the Roots.

On Slim Shady LP and Marshal Mathers LP Eminem kills shit.
Everything by Lil Layme = EPIC FAIL. His metaphors are just stupid. I really don't understand how he got to be popular at all.
All that said, rap is an incredibly inferior art form to well.... anything else. Currently that is. When it was about more than "I'm the shit, and I fuck mass bitches, and I have money" it was bearable. Now it's all materialistic, sociopathic bull mess. Which is why I liked Marshal Mathers LP and Slim Shady LP so much, Eminem was (and possibly still is) the only popular rapper that consistently laughed at himself. I have respect for that.
If Lil Girl was somehow beating Eminem in that poll I would have lost a great deal of respect for members of the shroomery.
Beastie Boys kill them both anyway, so invalid poll.

His music is so negative. I just can't dig it and I like some negative shit.
I have been awed by many more people in hip hop but not really Eminem. Not in comparison. Hes ok, but hes REALLY not deserving of this much praise IMO.

Eminem is a genius? His material is pretty shoddy, and so are his lines. And he's overplayed christopher reeves in all his dumbass songs. And yes, I Used to like eminem, back when I was in highschool... I've got all those albums so I've heard all those songs. This content is pretty much the same from CD to CD.

well his music obviously came from dark places in his mind. he's lived an insane life, struggling with serious drug addiction basically since day 1, had a wife and daughter that he couldn't support, basically he was fucked, then through his rap was able to become the most successful artist of the last decade. That is incredible.
eminem is the man. he's reinvented his sound with every consecutive album he's released.

I'm sorry, being a drug addict and having a shitty life doesn't automatically make your music good, that's not an excuse. And there have been plenty of people with a shittier life than just being kicked out by their drug addicted mom to knocking a girl up and having to struggled with child support amongst their own drug addictions. That's kind of a do to yourself sort of ordeal. Every problem of his is blamed on his mother and his ex wife.
Oh and apparently he got sodomized by a guy named ken kenniff and can't seem to get over the tragedy, so he sings about him and gay people a lot.

You do like good music, for sure. I have listened to a lot of Eminem against my will, as I said, my friends love him. He makes me chuckle but I have never found a song I have wanted to listen to on my own. I liked him when I was like..10 and then quickly lost interest.
He doesn't impress me, I really dislike his voice, he doesn't have many good beats IMO, I don't like how angry and douche he sounds in many of his songs. I don't give a fuck about his personal life and don't want to hear it whined out in dark ass puns and jokes. I'm not a fan. I just don't dig it.

Too be honest, I don't listen to those guys too much. Flash, Furious Five, KRS One and Gangstarr I listen to every once in a while.
I have my favorite guys if you can't tell.  LOOOOVEEEE A Tribe, Abstract Rude, Digable Planets, Tim Parker, Jehst, and Pete Rock. They're my thing now.
Not sure why most of the music on the radio today is even liked.
