Also I'd REALLY like to avoid people making contributions/edits while ignoring the previous efforts that someone else did so if you're currently making an edit/planning on contributing please make a post stating that you are as soon as you start working on it, that way none of our efforts are in vain and we can all contribute and not ignore others contributions and we'll know to wait before going forward.
Got it.
Now are people going to be re-posting the updated wav file after they work on it, so I will just need to find the most recent version to work on?
Im going to let you guys know when I plan to get started. Will have to have a listen to see if I can add something cool

Well the only edit to it done so far was by eltonjohn and it added a bit of texture and kept the track the same length so you can go ahead and download it here: http://soundcloud.com/saen-rolhroob/mycelialmysteries-shroomjam1-0
I think we should do it this way:
- If you make an edit, first post it up on SoundCloud first so everyone can have a listen - If everyone agrees on it (and your edit was pretty significant) then upload the separate parts to a ZIP folder, onto Mediafire, then here and the next person who comes up with something will do the same.
That avoids going through the trouble of splitting it/uploading it/people downloading it then it doesn't go through, it'd be easier if we heard it first then you could the uploading of the track.

Cool.
I noticed it is about a minute long. So I can see that it is going to change considerably as it gets longer. This will be very interesting. Hopefully I can add something useful. I think I can make a worthy contribution I'm going to wait a little bit and see what kind of shape it begins to take.

Little something I threw together a sort of base too. Should I add more to this length-wise before turning it loose to be worked on? I see this as being one of those songs with a consistent beat through most if not all of it with lots of layered melodies and leads/solo, so several people could offer something if handled right. I can tweak or reduce levels if there's too much already going on, and I'll make a .WAV set if someone wants to tweak individual tracks.

I dig it actually :thumbup. I can actually see your track merged with the base I made, coming in after the choral chanting?

I think it's a great idea for a project and it would be good to see something fully realized here on Shroomery.
I'm attaching the last example of this I recall from Shroomery. This was hatched in the Music forum but honestly the Pub is probably a better place for a project like this since action in that other forum is dismal.
This was a piece that I know akira_akuma contributed to as well as myself on drums and a few other dudes. The piano in the beginning: I_was_the_walrus? I don't know and I can't find the original thread, it appears to be gone? The second section is just me on drums along with this guitar thing akira man did that I chopped up to fit some varying bar lengths and left it hanging at the end with the opportunity for anyone to jump in and add absoltuely anything to the end, in the same way that it abruptly transitions into the second section at :49. Nobody ever did so as far I was concerned it was still open to development.
Also, this is an example of approach where instead of one long base track that everyone keeps stacking stuff onto, start with a short segment(that people add their parts to) and then anyone can launch into an entirely fresh segment if they want(like at :49 in the track I'm posting). This will also help us avoid ear fatigue from a piece being in the same key forever.
The unfinished track I talked about is posted up top.

where possible, prefer wet and dry tracks, and any samples used to make tracks.

I don't usually do these things because I never record anything I play. I'm not sure if you guys want anything I can play, but i will submit a bit of woodland flute music if I can get it to sound good enough with the music.

absolutely yes kada.
Someone has to pick a tempo though, and you better use a metronome. I refuse to cut up anything anyone posts, i hate working with samples.

The keylargo track would probably be better as a separate track/project from the one sunset started. I just wanted to post it in here for posterity and example's sake as well and as another piece that is yet unfinished. I'd like to see someone attach another segment on the end and we go from there.

None of that was sample based, it was all performed by people with their instruments.
And what's the big deal about tempo, calculate it yourself with a metronome, it's really not a big deal.

Awesome, can't wait to hear that. And no, that was an example of the last collab the Shroomery did.

Very interesting track, makes me more hopeful that something completely unheard of will arise from this collaboration. Also, that's exactly what I was going for in regards to the addition of short segments/movements to the song.
Well, for me personally, tempo and BPM won't matter because I will be contributing soundscapes to this and where I don't I can jam along with any tempo/BPM. The original BPM of my base track was 120 however, if you guys still wanted to know.
And let me update the list; teamkiller, Kada and Viveka, you guys are down right?
Quote:
ManyAk said: Anyone plays the scitar and is able to record some stuff?
Scitar sounds good man.
The software I got has such an excellent sitar sound set, sounds exactly like a real sitar and another song I'm working on for my next album makes good use of it.
I can cover the sitar no problem, although if someone here by some cosmic chance has a real sitar that'd be much preferred.
