I've used tall jars and they work just fine, just takes a bit longer to colonize.

ill definitely try the short ones next time, they seem to colonize a lot faster, i just couldnt get any cuz the walmart i went to didnt have those >_>

I get mine from Fred meyers. I've looked at walmart, safeway, and albertsons. Fred Meyers was the cheapest and had the biggest selection. I'm sure it varies depending on where you live though.
