Let me start this with a small disclaimer: driving while intoxicated is dangerous to yourself and others.  I haven't done it since the incident and I probably deserved what I got.

Drinking at the bar with friends leads to hungry on the way home.  I was definitely too intoxicated to drive, but I didn't have a ride and you can get a DUI even for sleeping in your car.  There are no taxis in this town, so my rationale was that I'd just get home the easiest and fastest way I knew.  Drive.

I always thought I'd get pulled over for some stupid shit like a license plate light out or something similar.

So, on this cold December night I wanted to get a cheeseburger on the way home.  I stopped into McD's and ordered a burger off the dollar menu and a medium Coke.  They gave me the Coca Cola and I sat there for about 5 minutes.  They never took my money, never said anything (the window was closed and no one was near it).

Soon enough the cruiser rolls up behind me with lights on so I pulled out of the drive through and parked.  He did the whole field sobriety thing, which I never should have participated in, then off to jail after refusing to blow him.

I asked him why he came to McDonald's and he said that one of the employees was concerned for my health.  I'm 24 years old at the time and in decent physical shape, so that's a load of sperm whale jizz.  I do some research and find that there has been several others to get DUI citations out of this particular McDonald's.

In the end I got a big fine, holiday inn weekend (which was one of the worst weekends ever), and a 6-month ALS.

Not saying what I did was right, but I am saying that what McDonald's did is borderline shitty.

It was for your own good.

If I would of seen you (or anyone else) drunk and driving, thats an immediate 911 call for me.

Get high, get drunk, get addicted, fuck your life up, thats your business. But dont risk other peoples lives too

If they were really that concerned for your health they would've told you to go eat somewhere else.

U mad brah?

Might wanna go wash some of the salt off before raging at people.  I put up a catchy title to get a bunch of comments and additional opinions and for everyone's entertainment.  I guess I should have thought about the people who lost friends/family/loved ones from drunkards.

Sorry to hear about your friend.  Once again, I'm not condoning what I did.  It was a bad decision.

I was explaining the situation and my rationale for driving (however contorted/dangerous/incorrect that may be).

One more thing: I spent 72 hours hearing and seeing (graphic images, the whole bit) about why I shouldn't drive drunk, and paid my dues.  I will never do it again.  Enough with the lectures, please.

I'd like to hear about similar experiences, constructive criticism, etc., and not how you're the community watchdog, and how I'm a piece of shit.

Really?  I don't see how in any way, shape, or form what McDicks did was shitty.  In fact, they did exactly the right thing IMO - glad to have another drunk driving scumbag off the roads.

I can see why you have a very bad opinion on people who drive intoxicated, being Canadian, where its a felony.

That's why I said "borderline shitty."  I just find it hard to believe that they can judge someone's state by them saying 3 or 4 words over an intercom and accepting a Coca Cola.  Their guess happened to be correct that I was drinking, but if I wasn't, that would be a lot of hassle to get a burger.

The whole scumbag thing: you can fuck off with that shit.  I didn't post this to advocate driving intoxicated.  It was a first-time offense and a last-time offense all in one stop.  I don't do it anymore, I learned my lesson, and completed the program (a year and a half ago).  If you'd read the first sentence you might have seen the words "probably deserved what I got."  You're one of those fucks that posts a shitty comment on everything just to get a rise out of people.  Good job, it worked.  Now please, fuck off.

I don't post anything to get a rise out of people.  It was a first-time offense, yes, but was it the first time you drove intoxicated?  You don't have to answer if you don't want, I already know the answer.

TL;DR

Why didn't you sleep in the car?

Its only illegal if you have the keys in the ignition. Keys in the ignition shows "intent to operate a motor vehicle."

If the keys are on the dash or in your pocket, and you are sleeping in the passenger side or back seat you are doing nothing wrong. If a cop gives you a hard time it will just be thrown out when you go to court.

Well see, most people don't have similar experiences because they don't endanger other peoples lives on the regular.

Some of the hate people produce when talking about DUIs is ridiculous.  It's not a smart thing to do, I agree, but in this case OP clearly sees that. Still some of you sound all like: "Uhh what you did was like fucking terrible man...you're probably a baby killer too- have fun watching your dick burn in hell hehe"  Fuck that logic, and fuck you (ya'll know who you are).  You are the real pieces of shit.

I bet McDonald's would do a third of business on late nights without drunk people.

Don't drive dunk OP.  Should not have rationalized in the first couple posts.

Right, since he is a sub-human drunk driver he isn't deserving of rationalizing his own behavior.

Even though he repeatedly stated he fucked up and warns people not to make the same mistake.

You can get a DUI even under the legal limit.  Intoxication levels don't correlate with amount of alcohol the same for most people.  I know people that could drink a .750l and drive fine, yet other people that shouldn't be driving at all.

Nope if your keys are with you, you can be found guilty of intent to DUI or whateverm. If anybody ever needs to sleep one off in their car, unlock doors, open door, go find a spot to hide your keys (outside the car) then go back inside the car.

Good point ModularMind.

If I drink 2 beers I know not to drive.  Even though I am not legally drunk I'm impaired enough to not feel safe.

I need to feel safe with some of those mini vans drives are these days

Also, ShroomeryJohn is correct.  If your keys are within reach, you are technically "in physical control" of the vehicle and could easily grab those keys to start it up if you have to take a wicked dump or something.

Look at statistics of people dieing from DUIs and you'll realize it has nothing to do with trolling.
