i was actually proving a point to some freinds. they think you should seal everything up tight, or it will contam. other than that, it's the only place i got to grow. i also made a small straw grow in a coffee can. i just put it on the kitcken table. i call it my baby and carry it around, cough on it, set it on the carpet, and put it on the ground outside. there are a few people i know that think they know it all, and i am just trying to blow there minds. they asked me how i did it, i told them i just planted a spore and water it once a day. i'm done trying to help them. all they know is how to stick a sterile syringe into a jar. that's why neither one of them were successful. i have a culture stock in the fridge and enough lc to knock up a thousand jars if i had that many jars. p.s. i do knock up my jars down there. i have had one bad jar out of a hundred. i do have a glove box that works wonders. even my agar work goes smooth. it stays like 80% rh and 72 degrees, so it is really the perfect place. i do take a little bit of caution when i make the tubs.

i would use coir, but i bet you would get a couple of flushes before the mold took over. spores won't spout on coir for some reason. i think they spout on the weakend myc.

You're right man. Once your sub is fully colonized, it can withstand a lot of potential contamination. This also shows the power of good sterile procedure and a glovebox/still air box.

i think the opposite..
any new cultivator with enough search function exp know not to try a grow in a moldy basement.
Unc is trying to prove a long standing point "Fully Colonized Subs are virtually contam resistant."
he knows the risks going in, but in the end its all for science.

it doesn't even have to be fully colonized. coir doesn't contam that easy. i'm a noob myself. but i have a masters degree from the shroomery so.; noobs read more before trying this at home. study, study, and study some more.

Kids are having enough problems following a tek and doing this the correct way. Just not a good idea to be supporting growing in a moldy ass basement. Experimenting is fine and dandy.

Why? He just shows that a fully colonized and consolidated sub is fairly resistant to contams. Maybe it keeps noobs from wrapping their FC up in tyvek.

Well, that does sound rather dangerous.

i agree. but they should know that moldy basements are a bad idea.
plus 'kids' should not be cultivating.
its not supportting growing in a moldy basement imo.

i had set a bag of soakin wet coir in that corner for three weeks and nothing grew on it. like i said i take some precaution when i make the tubs. you don't want mold spores to land on your grain. but it doesn't matter about the coir on top. like i said it's not the full colonization that is at play, it was the coir on top. that tub has been opened up in that corner from day one. i do have a top on it. but it gets opend every time i mist it.

We all know that a good percentage of new growers don't use the search function or we wouldn't be inunudated with the same questions over and over or the're so overwhelmed with conflicting information they don't know what to do.I also don't remember seeing anyone really ever arguing that fully colonized subs weren't contam resistant, anyways its all just my opinion and I hope its not taken out of context
