I'll start us off with World of Warcraft... Plenty of room to explore and tons of trippy environments such as, my personal favorite, Zangarmarsh.

You can choose any game world you like, and any environment... this isn't limited to World of Warcraft. Be creative and think outside the box, let's hear some crazy ones!
Add some pictures if possible

Also guess I should clarify that I'm talking about a game-world and environment preferably but not limited to a 3D RPG with some really nice visuals. Here's another example.

I'll re-install Amnesia: The Dark Descent some time, let myself go crazy as fuck and play through it to get some good screens for you guys. All the screens I find online don't do it justice; they don't spoil the really freaky parts and they're all clear-headed.
It's a game where you're alone, trapped in a castle, with Amnesia. As you descend into it's lower antechambers you learn you were involved in some African dig, and cursed by an artifact. Or at least that's what I gleaned from it. It's all very "you've got a non-stop concussion" so, there's interpretation to it. Someone must have lead the path briefly before you and left a trail of journal pages with candles. As you proceed, voices fill your head-sometimes your own. Fragments of memory flooding back- you've walked these steps before and not alone.
Anyway you quickly find out you're being followed by some kind of evil... force. You find out that prior to waking up, you had been searching for help. Apparently this ghastly curse has been haunting you for some time, and not only that, but it has been killing everyone who might be able to explain in disturbing ways. That was, until one of your letters received a one-line reply- "I know, I can help. Come to Castle Brennenburg"
That's only spoilerish on a hook level, it gets worse as you descend into the castle's disturbing dungeon. Torture is involved- you hear the screams of dead and dying ghosts, a monstrous apparition stalks you, seemingly precipitating out of thin air to trap you cowering in every dark corner. A disturbing plot evolves, you are being used, but you find out far too late. Paranoia haunts you. Bugs crawl across your camera and then disappear, and your ears feed you a constant bone-crunching noise. Gusts of wind seem to come form nowhere and blow out all the lights, leaving you in darkness.
You're the game's bitch the entire time. If you're in the light you stay sane, your vision clear and the noises quelled- but if they apparition chasing you can see you he becomes very real and will stop at nothing to disembowel you. If you hide in the dark you slowly go insane, your vision twisting and blurring, your heart pounding.
This is the only game I have ever played that honestly completely depended on it's atmosphere and succeeded 100% in my opinion. I wouldn't suggest ruining it by watching LP's. Play it yourself when you can, preferably in the dark when you're exhausted. It will push you to your wit's end.
EDIT: Accurate concept art of one of the later chambers.

I'd take a pic but i have no place to host it and am too lazy to find one. But anyways, from the games i've played i'd say Fallout 3 / New Vegas. The first time i got on top of a hill and looked east over the ruins of DC all i could do was sit and stare for probably about 10 minutes. Awesome view, i'm sure there's already tons of Fallout screens out there anyways and lots of mods to make it look even better, especially at night.
One mod adds in visual drug effects, not 100% accurate but taking drugs in a game and getting appropriate effects in the game while your on the same drug for real is kinda cool if you ask me.

the brinstar depths music from metroid prime echoes when you are traveling back and forth between two "sides" of a planet you play this level in the dark side that's mostly underwater and devoid of any light lol honestly I remember almost dying here because one of the problems is that the dark world is really radio active or something so it's like walking around in poisonous air and you have to migrate from light to light in this dark tron-like temple area...

Obviously WoW is up there. Although honestly if I were tripping I think it'd have to be after taking a long break from WoW or encountering a new zone. Zangarmarsh is trippy, but after killing 1000s of sporebats from my wow days, it loses its magic. Nothing beats exploring new zones though, especially in vanilla days when they were much less formulaic.
I'm a product of the 90s though so here are my contributions:
dynamite heady- the game is trippy / just plain odd in many respects Here is an example fight scene.
That or the part in sonic & tails where you try to collect coins for the chaos emeralds:

I just remembered today
Mother Three is the trippiest game, because there are actually magic mushrooms in the game!
It was never released stateside as Earthbound 2 or what have you because of the latter. You can download a translation patch tho and everything's fine.

Props to dzza for the Dynamite Heady plug. Rez has a nice trippy vibe to the environments overall. It does seem a little too digital and to me it wouldn't be suitable for playing while actually dosed.

Mother 2 (Earthbound) and Mother 3 each have pretty trippy environments. (Forgive any copyrights I may have infringed--I stole these straight off of Google.)
Moonside

Magicant

Saturn Valley

Tanetane Island

And Earthbound's final battle

Discovering Oasis while wandering around the bleak land of fallout 3 was one of the best gaming experiences ive ever had. I was 15 or 16 at the time but I felt like I was 6 again.

Killer7
this game is by far the WACKYest i played this shit and it honestly made me feel sober, it was for the gamecube and ps2.
In it you were a group of hitmen hired in this sort of mission impossible/pulp fiction backdrop and all the while this group called the heaven smile are gettin in you're way trying to suicide bomb you, but its not even like that you just have to see it in action for yourself, all the backgrounds are gradients and shadows its awesome, each hitman has his own powers and its basically a rail shooter but you travel through buildings solving puzzles and stuff alot of the NPC's bring up crazy references that sound out there, if you look some of the stuff up it's like all underground goverment and historical references, you can check out game f.a.q.s. actually some guy linked everything up to the real world even tho in the game you have no fucking clue whats goin on except the story line that is kind of gettin to you in this fucked up world.
The game for me hinged on the sound effects and moody atmosphere it reminds me alot of resident evil if it was just an abstract game. I have memories of goin through this asian designed house and all the noises it made as you went through it, like the sliding doors and wood surrondings.

Update: Got the sequel! Been playing for a few hours and so far it's really cool. Trippy as hell plus the first game came with it.
I definitely recommend Alice: Madness Returns to anyone who's looking for a trippy game to play. Thanks again, BluePixieWaves.

Yeah, and don't listen to the naysayers who will say that game is cookie-cutter-cliche, it is, but it handles itself very well for a simple platformer; the camera isn't obnoxious, there aren't over-the-top-annoying characters or voice acting, and the environments and protagonist make the whole romp worth it.

From what I've seen so far I can say this is a worthy sequel to a great game.

My vote is going towards wow also. Been using the Zangarmarsh photo for my avatar for awhile. Deepholm is very cool as well.
Had many trips exploring and pvping in wow.
Acid+World PvP=
Mario Galaxy is truly incredible to. Everyone should trip on acid and try out mario galaxy at some point.
Raiding in WoW is great to doing some of the old 60 raids like AQ.

Hell yeah, I love World PvP while tripping, high, drunk, etc... Just makes it that much more rewarding!
I got stoned one day and went gnome hunting, it was great.
