Making your own fishing lures 1

Has anyone tried making their own fishing lures? Seems like its pretty easy http://www.barlowstackle.com/make-your-own-plastic-worms.htm
Anyone used biodegradable plastics?
-------------------- "... I sauntered about from rock to rock, from grove to grove, from stream to stream, and whenever I met a new plant I would sit down beside it for a minute or a day, to make its acquaintance, hear what it had to tell. I asked the boulders where they had been and whither they were going, and when night found me, there I camped. I took no more heed to save time or to make haste than did the trees or the stars. This is true freedom, a good, practical sort of immortality."

Never saw the point, I just use a hook, stick a garden spade into the ground and pull out a worm. Biodegradable, organic and easily replaced.

I live an hour away from a tackle store - rather than waste gas and money i could make my own for cheaper. Worms are very productive, but, it depends on the fish species your after and the type of fishing your doing.
I also want to experiment with making plastics more durable. Large lure producers make products that break so you will have to spend more money buying their products.

I have broken crankbaits and hard top water baits from hitting rocks when casting towards the shoreline. I was talking about plastic baits though - i love top water plastic frogs but one bite from a pickerel and the legs are gone.

ive made a few molds myself...but since ive moved to Maine i cant find anywhere that sells the plastic. ive also resorted to melting down old plastics to make more custom one-off bass lures
ive made poppers with paddle frog legs
they seem to do the trick

Im going to give lure making a try!
Also, if you want to make homemade metal spoon lures, cut the head off a normal kitchen spoon, drill a hole on each end then attach your splitring and hook

Here is the guide http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-fishing-lure-with-a-plastic-spoon/ it works very well

wow man - awesome job! That lure looks like it will catch some fish. What kind you going for?
You tried it out yet? Seems like the hardest thing with a hand made lure like that would be making it "swim" correctly.
The other question i had - whats connecting the hooks to the wood? If you got on to a big one would the wood break where the "wire" connects to it?

thanks!
i'll probaly try it this sunday.
here in argentina the surface lures are used for "tarariras".
lets see how swim, i don't expect much.
i drill a hole in the wood and pass a wire for the hooks. i know a big fish could break it and i lose the fish. the next one will have better tecnology

today i caught the first fish using this lure! unfortunatelly the fish broke the wire and run away, but the fight was exciting! i fix the lure with nylon coated wire.
