Actually I'm kind of conficted on this issue, I've never had a loved one murdered, not many of us have, so I don't know how I would react, but I would probably seek vengeance. So I understand why it must be this way.
On the other hand, there are the moral issues, what right do we have to take away something that was given by a higher power?

What is the appropriate punishment for Osama bin Laden?
If he's found guilty after a trial then lock him up like any criminal.
Yes, then he can't get raped in the ass and be everybody's bitch. But I still would like to see him fry.

people guilty of murder should be put in jail indefinitely. they should have to work while they are there, the proceeds from which should go to paying for their incarceration as well as restitution to the victim's loved ones. they should be released only after serving a considerable amount of time, paying considerable restitution to the victim's family\loved ones, and demonstrating that they have been fully rehabilitated.
"considerable" would be determined by the courts based on the merits of the case.
killing anyone is a waste.

I'm for the death penalty but only if it's pretty serious, like a serial killer, Charlie Manson, Bill Clinton, Ted Bundy or GG Allin.

On the death penalty, I'm ok with it for extreem cases but I think mushmaster has the right idea to put them to work to pay back their debt. Voluntary gladiator matches is an interesting idea. Pay per view with profits going to charity?
On Osama, imprisonment would breed nothing but future terrorist acts. Hijackings with the goal of getting him released. Killing him is the only safe option.

On the idea of gladiator battles, I find it disgusting. We are not barbarions. We are not bloodthirsty romans that need pleasure from blood. The law is supposed to be justice tempered with mercy. I believe in rehabilitation where ever possible.

Im all for it...
Their are some truely rotten people out their and the systems as it is keeps createing more and more rotten to the core people...
Their are people right now dreaming of rapeing and killing yours or your neighbors kids and its people like this who should be put to death so I dont have to waste my tax dollars on feeding them and allowing them to have cable access.....
Lifers in prision make a pretty good life for themselvs. may not be the life that any of us would chose but they do get smokes, drugs, sex, hot showers, lots of sleep and plenty of activity plus access to eduication that rivals some smaller colleges, all on my dime...
I would rather see ALOT of these people all shot dead tomorrow...

I don't think anyone suggested that we force them to do battle. I also think it was suggested tongue in cheek.

Well last time this was dicussed somebody made the point that they did not think that the state should be able to take away something that they can't give back. Credit whoever said that though, and I'm sure somebody will claim it. Also, I really would only agree with it in the most extreme cases. I think our court system is flawed, though only in the fact that it is run by humans, and we aren't infallible. We make mistakes, but not to say that there isn't some corruption either. I'd rather set a guilty man free, than put an innocent man to death. Plus, heh, its cheaper not to kill 'em.

Rehab is the word, and the only way to achieve it would be psychedelic therapy. Lock murderers up with a transpersonal therapist like Stan Grof or one of his disciples, dose them up with LSD and let them take as many sessions as needed. You can't cheat your therapist with psychedelics. Soon enough, the prison-industrial complex would collapse.

Induce a horrific trip the likes of which only their victems have seen. Better yet gladiator matches on massive acid doses.

I don't know about the gladiator idea, but I think inducing a bad trip would be just the kind of punishment suited for a guy like Bin Laden. Who knows--maybe he'll learn something from the experience.

First and foremost I'd like to see a full investigation of the most recent crime that he supposedly commited as a full and comprehensive one has not yet been allowed yet by heir Bush. And we need to see that our oh so reightious government didn't have their grimey little hands in 9-11 with him.
second. IF found guilty. He should have to sit in an American prison for women for the rest of his miserable life, sharing a room with the angrest, butchest bitch they can find, and during his free hours he should be forced to watch reruns of "Joe Millionare" and "Married by America", and "Im a celebrity, get me outta here" and he should be allowed to eat nothing but pork, and the only books he can read are the Bible and the Torah.
Im all for creative sentancing...Just not a life for a life. Its too easy of a way out...and lets be honest, it is no more of a deterant (sp?) than a life sentance.
