Mushrooms are here for another year. Went for a walk in the rain today at a nearby forest and was surprised as to just how many mushrooms have popped up. Look forward to seeing other hunters mushy pics. Here's a few of mine...
Sorry if some pictures are a little blurred but I had to resort to using my inferior phone camera. Haven't seen an subs pop up yet though I am confident they are out there somewhere.. Happy hunting

Are you sure the gymnopilus sp. are inactive? I'm not really proficient in Australian species, but that cluster on the stump looks mildly promising.

hey all, yep sure is plenty of mushrooms around, such a good sight to see at this time of year for a change, looks like it might be a bumper year.

Hi SA hunters
Yes the season comes around fast  Autumn is a nice part of the yr.
Here is some in actives which have been going crazy up where Im situated.  These fairy rings Maraminus Oreades have liturally covered my lawn.
Agaricus campestris. I have never seen so many for this time of the year there every where.
My fire wood got a bit drenched and the result is these little mushrooms?
Last pic my fire wood for the oncoming cold wet Winter.
It would be great to catch up for the season. madness here we come.

Koraks, Everything I've read of aussie gyms have pointed to them being inactive and they don't rank high as a tasty mushroom either so for these reasons I've always left them alone.
Nice pics ummagumma. I've been living off mushroom inspired dishes the past few weeks thanks to the big flush of agaricus. Go great in salads too. Can't wait to get out again for another hunt. The fly agarics are also really taking off now in some areas.

Gymnopilus junonius is not known to be active in Australia, but there are other species of Gymnopilus that are. They don't seem to be common though.

Cannot believe it was nearly a year ago that I had my first finds. Time has flown by.
Have started dreaming about subs popping up in my spot, perhaps with all the rain we've had lately the season might start a little earlier than last?

Its hard to make out, but the ring looks a bit persistent for A. campestris, not to mention the habitat being off.

I have been very excited to get back out in the forests and search for shrooms. Hoping to post a lot more pictures this year with my new camera, below are some shots of the inactives i have been finding this week. Also hoping to learn to identify a lot more of the different species and maybe have a go at collecting some edibles.

pretty sure i have seen some of these at the local markets sold as "pine mushrooms" all the ones i seem to find in the forest seem to be covered in millipedes which puts me off because i particularly hate millipedes.

Looks like Lactarius deliciosus (aka pine mushroom)
They're not bad eating, have an unusual texture.
It's difficult without gill shots or spore prints, etc. but here are a few more IDs if you're interested.
1. Agrocybe sp.
2. Conocybe sp.
3. same as 1?
4. Inocybe sp. (really cool mushroom)
5. Lactarius deliciosus
6. Suillus luteus
7. Mycena sp.
8. Gymnopilus junonius

I have been lurking around on this forum for years,but this is my first post.
I went into the hills today to a reserve.
We found lots of mushrooms. They were purdy.

I really love these types of threads, I seem to learn the most from these in terms of recognising macrospcopic differences between mushrooms. Helps a hell of a lot when starting out.
I get the distinct feeling TimmiT likes them too, as he always seems up for the I.D. challenges which I think is awesome.

Cool collection for your first post, nikku.
1, 3. Amanita xanthocephala
2, 4, 5, 6, 9. Gymnopilus junonius - faintly active as reported by some.
7, Amanita sp.
10, 17. Leratiomyces ceres?
11. ??? No idea, but the bluing looks wild.
12. Agaricus sp.
13. Marasmius oreades
15. Amanita sp?
As for the rest I think you have a mix of Agaricus and Amanita.

Yep that's the one.
I want to find different spots this year, not necessarily for the mushrooms but for the peace and quite.. Within a year i have gained a shitload of respect for mushrooms, Not just active either.
Does anyone know if any glow in the dark mushrooms grow in south australia? I want to cultivate some at home and make a pathway kinda thing out of glowing mushrooms
