Yeah, an aftershock just went off at 7.1, though there are multiples between 6-7. Here comes another wave towards the shore like a train.

I lived where she was. They have sirens all over the island that can be heard everywhere. I was there for warning scare. Had plenty of time to get away from it, I lived down by the coast so rode my bike 10 miles into town and waited it out.
Sirens are damn loud and can be heard from anywhere you are at. I had friends camping out in Waipio valley, they had people running down the beach at 6 AM yelling TSUNAMI! It was supposed to hit around 11, needless to say scared the hell out of my friends who thought it was coming any second so booked it barefoot down the valley path to a car waiting at the road a mile away. People in deeper valleys were evaced via helo.

Japan's people are really good with this sort of thing, it's not like it's a bunch of tourists during the busiest time of the year in Sri Lanka; that being said this is still pretty fucking bad. A fire is now breaking out in an oil refinery.

Mmm... don't think so. Earthquakes (as derived by plate tectonics) from what I gather are more driven by convection in the mantle - which if it can move entire plates of crust on the surface... even billions of pounds of redistribution (which occurs over time) would be negligible.
