Some of my recent projects (shiitake, enoki, oysters, eryngii, piopino)

Here are just some pictures of my recent grows, hope you enjoy them!
This is a trashbag full of contaminated oyster sawdust and grain substrates that colonized outside over the winter and eventually fruited when temperature rose a bit.

Some king oysters

And enokis

This is a shiitake block from an unknown strain I got in a trade (it certainly behaves differently than 75 I have going now), I had trouble getting it to brown and fruited it when it was completely white. Still, it yielded half a pound first flush of very meaty tasty mushrooms.

These, along with some A. bisporus buttons from the store, were made into an amazing RR style stroganoff, I recommend that recipe to everyone!

Those are some awesome oysters! Did you try doing the paper/plastic cylinder thing for the enokis?

Thanks! Yeah, I'm satisfied with those oysters, seems I got a very good strain, also you can't beat outdoor winter conditions for good oysters! I didn't try cylinders for enokis because I made bags instead of bottles/jars, but I kept them in high CO2 environment. I had lots of problems with them, lost some to contams, others wouldn't fruit, I threw them all outside to see what happens. Only this bag and two small jars produced any fruits. But I don't think I'll grow them again any time soon.

Wow your kings are wild looking. What did you use to keep the CO2 up on those guys since it looks like they're fruiting through the bag?
Your enoki's look really good. I wouldn't necessarily give up on them unless you just don't really like them. Once you get your contams sorted out they are pretty easy to grow and I like the taste when fresh (plus they're quite good for you). But it looks like you have plenty of species to play with so we all have to pick our battles

Thanks guys! Yeah those kings were crazy, ridiculous number of pins growing everywhere, I tore the bag where the clusters were largest. I kept them in closed totes (without holes for air) and in lowest possible ambient light. That made them nice and fat, but most pins aborted, in the end I trimmed most pins and left 5-10 on each block to mature. I still have some bags, I'll try several different fruiting methods, some in shotguns, some outside, see what works best. I tried to eat raw enoki, nothing really special, didn't have enough to cook them. I'll try to make those 4 bags produce fruits soon, otherwise enokis will probably be on hold until next winter. They are fun, and pretty, but I reeealy do have a lot of species I want to grow until summer comes. Nebrodensis, pioppino, nameko, blazei, king stroph, shaggy mane, lots of reishi, turkey tail, elm oyster, shimeji, hericium..., sooo much species, so little time!

morels in your yard?! I'm hella jealous! Did you start an outdoor grow or just moved somewhere where they already were?

A cluster of enokis fruiting on agar.

I have a king oyster bag fruiting outdoors now, it's amazing how they look nothing alike the ones grown in high co2/low light environment! I'll throw some pics when they mature a bit.

Great thread! Thanks for sharing..I just fruited an enoki kit from Fungi Perfecti, but the mushrooms got these black spots and streaks on them and I didn't trust them, so I tossed the entire first flush.. Ready to drop the temp and try for a second though... Anyway, great grow! I am becoming addicted myself.. Can't wait to start growing p. ostreatus and stropharia outdoors!

My wild pioppino clone bag is pinning!!!! I was so stoked when I found them growing on a stump in the city center, after that I had troubles isolating mycelium from bacteria, but ended up dumping it in a wbs jar anyway. And it ended up colonized, but with very thin, barely visible mycelium. So I made a small sawdust bag, and left it several weeks after full colonization before I put it in the FC. Again the myc is barely visible, the block isn't white at all. But today I saw what are clearly little grayish primordia!!! I'll update with photos when they grow up a bit. I hope they really are pioppino and not some contaminate mushroom.

Wonderful team of species there Tangich. How are you liking the king oysters? I'm thinking about getting some enoki started, but i'm debating between trying the more natural style vs the elongated neck with the higher CO2 content. Any thoughts on that? They all look so tasty.

'Natural style' enoki is a total pain in the ass. The entire blocks gets covered in tiny caps and harvesting is a a drag. Plus you end up tearing the block apart scraping all the caps off. There is a reason people grow them to have long stems. It makes them very easy to harvest and deal with.
