Roger says to put it on the outside, Citric says to put it on the inside; they're both TC's so I'm left confused. What do you guys think?

what I do is make several small nailholes and cover it with tyvek. It is better than 1 large hole because the wbs I use can't touch the tyvek through the small holes

You may need to extend your poll, as I recall Doc saying that he puts it on both sides.

You don't want it on the inside because it will get alot more condensation build up on it...Then a mold spore can land on it through the holes and start colonizing right through the filter. Contam rate will go up with the filter on the inside

I've always put my tyvek on the inside, under the metal disc.

Some Trusted cultivators argue your point. While some trusted cultivators argue that when the filter is on the outside the condensation from the jars gets trapped between the filter and the lid on the top of jars. So the filter is wet nevertheless.

What he said. Keep the filters dry.

For my self healing lids I usually put the filter on the underside of the lid, but I've also got a few with it on top, both types work just fine for me.
If I were to be kicking it old school rocking a tyvek filter the size of a lid, I'd probably put it on the outside because then all the "it'll get wet" makes more sense, because there's more tyvek. But the tiny bit we use for self healing lids is meh, if it's gonna get wet it's gonna get wet regardless, and considering that the piece(s) of tyvek that go beyond the hole get siliconed and sealed, you're going to have the same amount of exposed tyvek no matter how you do it.
I simply prefer it on the underside because 1) it looks cleaner and 2) I don't want anything getting stuck between the filter and the lid, like a loose grain or condensation.

thats contradicting because with the filter on the inside there is still a place where water can catch in between the lid and filter so thats the same thing.....But the advantage of having it outside is the filter is exposed to open air, which will dry it quick if it ever does get wet....When it dries fast contams can't get a foothold on it to colonize

Yeah you're right about that water can still get trapped between the filter and the lid when it's under the lid. But the only way that would happen is if you didn't cover your filter during the PC cycle.
I personally put a layer on the inside and the outside so there is always a dry layer on top, because the condensation can't go through tyvek. Tyvek is water proof or at least very water resistant because I tested it.

Word.
I'm starting to think that it really doesn't matter where the filter is, and that it's just personal preference. Because it seems like everyone has had success in everyform.
