If you have a yahoo profile with a good track record I think that would go a long way.
In the news:
CC Sabathia has dropped 25 pounds to get BACK DOWN TO 290 pounds.

That's pretty stupid. Someone traded me victor martinez for chipper jones in 2008. I fleeced zappa in 09 when I traded scott kazmir for ricky nolasco and got his 16 K game in. I will try my best to not draft nolasco this year but if I do that it will be the year he is awesome.

I sent him a PM yesterday asking if he had ever played before. Haven't heard back yet so I went through his post history. The only posts he made re baseball were about the botched call in the perfect game, the Phillie fan who puked on people and condolences to the Rockie's family of fans when the owner dropped dead. That's it. Maybe a total of 6 or 8 posts. So I'm going to give a for the same reason I gave a to MadSeasonAbove. They aren't baseball fans.
As of right now we have 7 registered. I expect Cowgold to eventually sign on because he took the active step to send me his e-mail. Madtown, not so much so let's just assume that we have 8. Which is fine. It would also be fine if we add up to 4 more committed baseball fans. What isn't fine is adding a bunch of flakes and phonies just to pad the numbers.
If we end up with just 8 teams I am probably going to add more active positions just so we don't have a situation where there is too much talent in the free agent pool. With 12 teams of 23 players each we have 276 players on rosters and, between relievers and hitters, 140 players active on any given day. I don't count starters there because they are functions of the innings limit. At any rate I would like to try to maintain that kind of depth even with fewer teams. This can be accomplished by adding more active player spots and possibly raising the innings limit. I am less sure of the latter but classic rot has 2 Catchers, 1 Corner Infielder, 1 Middle Infielder and 5 total OFs active on any given day. That adds 5 hitters, which will offset the decreased size and give us 14X8 hitters (112) as opposed to 9X12 (108) in the larger league. Further, we could add an RP spot to the 2 current ones which would yield similar closer quantities. Finally, I will add 1 or 2 Bench spots just to keep the total number of players tied up about the same. Finally, there will definitely be an even number of players selected just to maintain the equanimity of the snake draft.
None of this will be determined until we fix the league size, though, so if anybody wants to recruit genuine baseball fans who aren't flaky dipshits, like leanin, then you should get on it.

Hard to tell what happened to Markakis last year. Hard to tell what Markakis we'll get this year. They have certainly added some hitters around him.

Baltimore just went through a full collapse last year. They started to turn around when they ditched their manager. Still wouldn't bank on em this year though. Also, Wiggy is a Rockie!

The Orioles should be much, much better this year. That's not much saying much considering how terrible they were last year. I think they could get to .500 ball this year. To me it seems like the abilities of the teams are evening out. The Royals are on the and up with their excellent farm system. The Orioles have a lot of young pitching and Matt Wieters. The Nationals have Strasburg and Bryce Harper. We might not see any 60 win teams for awhile. The Pirates might sucked forever, but they have some interesting players in the minors and Andrew McCutchen is really good.

Ok then, Cowgold is the last holdover and the man is in da house. That makes 8. I have had some conversation with nismo that makes me believe he is not a flake. However he has not affirmed that he understands it isn't head to head. Which leads to this:
There are 8 proven Shroomery players. I have no problem with any number between 8 and 12. I have zero intention of begging anybody to join just to fill numbers. Conversely, more real players is slightly better. I also have no intention of recruiting. So the rest of you guys can recruit or not. I'm going to lock membership March 10 and set the order. The draft is scheduled for the 20th. So far nobody has complained about it and that gives 10 days to strategerize.

Perhaps, but $100 is a small enough wager that it won't be missed and large enough to count if it hits. Plus I believe in my team. At the very least, this bet makes the season much more interesting.
