Presto 23 qt. pressure canner without instructions
    #13910674 - 02/05/11 04:30 PM (2 years, 3 months ago)

Whats going on everyone
So I've had decent luck with the pf tek but I've decided to go on to bigger things
I bought this pressure canner from walmart,Over the internet
I just got it ,thing is there are NO instructions ,no book at all
On the pressure gauge it says read all instructions before using
I have never seen a pressure cooker in my life
But I've heard the horror stories,And I won't lie I'm kinda nervous
I put it together like it was shown on the package but I'm not stupid lol
I was hoping someone out there has one of these and could help me out
I just sent an e mail to walmart to see what they will do.
Don't think I'm going to go thru walmart anymore
I just found out the dehydrator I got from them is under recall for catching fire...:facepalm3:
As always thanks in advance:bow2:

The little black vent(or weight) beside the pressure gauge should start wobbling and spitting out steam when the pressure cooker reaches temp. When it does turn down the heat, not too much so that the agitator weight stops vibrating and spewing stem but enough so that the pressure(I am assuming the gauge has a danger line, cant tell by pic)on the pressure gauge doesn't drop too low or raise into danger level. Look up some teks on forum about proper pressure and cooking times. As long as it is spewing steam that means there is enough pressure to overcome the weight. PS never touch the weight or vent while it is cooking, it could cause the weight to shoot through the ceiling and cause severe burns in process, also don't move pressure cooker while pressure is present.Let it cool completely before touching or removing lid.

I can almost see your face in the reflection of that one pic, also get a duster and dust off that wireless hub or whatever that is next to the cooker.:zoolander::lolsy:

The main thing is to breathe through the hole that you put the pressure gauge on to make sure there is light shining through so it doesn't build up pressure and blowup.

3n1gm4: lol that thing is dusty isn't it
At first I was like huh? then I looked at the picture.
Tell ya the truth I forgot That thing was even there
That table usually has alot more crap on it
Cakk: thanks man I read I was supposed hold the lid up to see if I could see light but I like the idea of blowing through just to make sure
I think I got it down,I'm going to go over the manual a couple more times just to be on the safe side

Okay also be sure to leave the jars out of the water.  I put in extra lids to keep them above the water so it doesn't boil dry.  You made a good investment I have gotten 0 contams in my 20 jars I inoculated

Go to google and seach for pressure cooker sounds and try to find one to listen to, it makes a distinct sound when it is working right, like chih-chih-chih-chih-chih-chih. If it just hisses then it isn't hot enough yet or something is wrong with the weight, if it gets hot and makes no noise turn it off and RUN! Lol just kidding, but seriously if it doesn't start making noise turn it off because pressure is building up and it can explode. It is pretty simple and since yours has a pressure gauge then its a no brainer. Look for the tek that you are going to use and follow it. Most of the pcing teks will tell you what psi to cook it at and how long. So all you have to worry about is not touching the weight or opening it while it is still hot.

So Basically like rr did in the dvd
Lining the bottom with extra jar lids
One thing that did concern me.
It says something about sending the gauge off to be checked
Would I need to do that since its new
I could see after having it for awhile,I thought maybe they check them before they package them. idk.
I'm glad I got a good one ,I tried to get the best one I could without going into the 200 price range

Nope just try it and see how it works.  Takes a while to get it going but once you see steam coming out the top of it for 10 mins or so put on the black piece and let the pressure build up.  I cook mine for 60-90 mins

lol see its cause of shit like that
I think I let all these horror stories get in my head :crazy2:
I'm going to try my luck with a bulk sub
I've gotten through the pf tek twice with no major setbacks.

I wouldn't worry about the gauge, lots of people use one without a gauge. Just worry about getting it hot enough that steam starts pulsating from under the weight and then turn it down to medium low or low heat just so that it is still making the same noise and spitting out steam in short bursts from under the weight. If it stops pulsating steam just turn the heat up a little. They are very simple once you have used it a few times, and as long as you don't do anything stupid like try to open it while its hot. Ouch

I always started mine with the weight already on the hole but you should follow the manual because yours may be different than mine was.

If no one has mentioned it - bring the heat up slowly at first to give the metal a chance to heat uniformly. I think that sudden high heat may cause warping. Put your water in, put it on the stove and turn it on low while you get everything else ready. As you load the PC, ramp up the heat a little at a time. The patients rule should apply to all facets of this hobby. Oh, and make sure that nothing can block the vent and you'll be good to go.
