This is relevant to my interests. Are there cheap hotels in Telluride or are we gonna be stuck paying for a B&B or something along those lines?
PM nothing to me, let's discuss this in the thread. There's not a lot of resources for lodging that I can find.

As a local I would say there aren't any secret or extra cheap hotels in telluride. If you feel like making a little drive into town (less than an hour). You could stay in Ridgway or Ouray, absolutely my favorite place to stay in the area is in ouray, a place called "Wiesbaden". The vapor cave is awesome.
here's a link: http://www.wiesbadenhotsprings.com/
If you have questions about places in the area though feel free to ask me!

Here's a few pointers on camping. First don't count on the town campground unless you intend to get there on Tuesday or early Wednesday, there is maybe 10-20 sites available and fills up quickly. You might think alta lakes seems like the perfect camping spot but there is a big catch. You can't get there unless you have a nice 4x4 as it is a tiny 1 lane dirt trail on the side of a cliff, not a pleasant drive if you dislike heights. My suggested places for camping are the matterhorn campground and the sunshine campground. Priest lake is a okay spot too but lacks amenities. I would suggest getting to the festival early that way you can work out camping spots before they all fill up.

I'm not sure who this is but Alta Lakes is fine and safe. When you first pull off the paved road there is about a hundred feet that is a flat dirt road about 16 feet wide with one side being a cliff. After that it's smooth sailing for the next 4 miles and some of the best mushroom hunting grounds around. Every year we take 50 to 100 people at a time on forays in 2wd cars up there without issue.

LOL this is justin, it may have just seemed worse then it was since it was night and I'm a wee bit afraid of heights. Seriously that was a terrifying drive in the middle of the night, I should have known by the other cars parked at the road entrance that I wouldn't wanna do it. I don't know how far I made it up that road before I turned around and decided priest lake was a better idea, so I didn't realize it got better as you went.

We're waiting on a gentlemen from Alpine Lodging to get back to Telluride so we can lock all of this down. It's taking longer than expected because this year everyone's schedules are out of sync. We hope to be able to post something in the next week or so.

We're veering off slightly with food, but here it is. There are no fast-food restaurants in Telluride. There are no chain restaurants in Telluride. Therefore, there is not any truly "cheap" food available. Baked in Telluride (bakery and food shop) has just re-opened, and both of the grocery stores have fresh-made sandwiches or hot-box food for very reasonable prices. Lunch is a little easier as pretty much most places have some sort of lunch special for under $10.00. Just take a stroll down both sides of main street in town, and you will see almost everything available.

I'm looking for a room for 5 nights during the fest: wednesday the 17th and leaving Monday the 22nd. I'm willing to pay in the $70-$80 range but want to be located in town in Telluride. Have any suggestions or do you have a room?
