Help me choose a table saw! (pics)

I have been looking at the classifieds lately looking to get some tools to help me fix up my house.
I have found two table saw's which I am having a hard time deciding which I would like better.
One is a 10" dewalt, apparently only used 3 times, guy told me he got a bigger saw, does not need this one he wants $300

The second is a 10" Rigid, used for a year doing home projects now he wants to get something bigger. He wants $350.

I only really wanted to spend $200 on a table saw, but these are the best ones I can find locally right now. Which would you choose? What should I look for?
Thanks for the help

Our Rigid uses a different mechanism with a "brake" to hold it down to the floor. However, even with the brake down, sometimes the saw and pedestal move a bit, and i find that very annoying.
I would rather have the Dewalt on some sort of homemade or purchased pedestal. The rigid pedestal looks unsecure to me.
I haven't used the dewalt - but do love their tools, for what its worth.

I too have an affection for Dewalt. I don't know much about rigid but from what I have seen from online reviews it is also a nice saw, but others have also mentioned how much it vibrates. I don't think I will end up getting it.
Bosch seems to be the name that I keep coming across, maybe I will keep searching to see if something like that shows up.
Thanks for your help PDU

I'd go with the Dewalt, but that's admittedly mostly because I've never heard of Rigid before. Is that pedestal supposed to come with it? 'Cause having it placed on wheels like that would make me nervous every second it was turned on.

Seems like you can get a brand new DeWalt as shown in the pic for just slightly over $300. Show that guy the link and tell him you'll give him $200.
I like the DeWalt because it is light and I rarely rip anything thicker than 5/4, which is not to say that it can't rip hardwood or 2X material. It can quite well. Quick, easy good fence and gauge. Excellent site choice. The Rigid is probably more suited to a shop but it isn't tremendously heavy either. I wasn't all that crazy about the cart thing it comes on when I used one. It's kind of a pain in the ass. This is my tool: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HXT2MW/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00004T93N&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1V4A77N6Q8VFNJWD53FC
I like the stand. Sturdy and folds down flat completely separate from the saw. I shit when I saw the price. Somebody just gave it to me. It was more used than the one you're looking at but is still going strong 5 years later.

The Rona by my place just had a clearance sale. I ended up getting a haussmann xpert that was $499 for $259
I got a finishing blade to go with it for another $60.
I know haussmann is not the best line of tools, but the price is right, its brand new, it actually is working great for me so far, and when I sell it I am sure I will be able to get at least $200 for it.
In the mean while I found an $60 king canada table saw from 1993 on craigslist. It is cast iron top, stand, and housing. Needs a new motor but its an awesome table. I will fix it up after I sell the haussmann
Its hard to find any quality tools these day's! plastic seems to be used in all of the tools that should be made out of metal..

Check the play in the bar on the table also having wheels is a huge plus depending on the size and weight. I have a few rigid tools here and there and are pretty solid but you really just have to have a hands on approach and check both of them out. Maybe make a meeting to check the dewalt out and then throw an offer towards him at $200 referencing the price of a new unit. Good luck man

ridgid has a 3yr warranty and while that doesnt mean a shitload to you right now since it's non transferable, to me it means a free replacement with a new saw as soon as I pick it up, simply take it to the home depot, tell them you've had it for a year and it's developed the annoying problem of the arbor dropping through the course of the cut, tell them you need a replacement because you have a large hardwood flooring job tomorrow
I've never had an issue with them replacing a tool, on some that are out of warranty they'll prorate it but that's typically a small amount, like the replacement of a 5yo hammer drill with 1 nicad battery with a new one that has 2 new Lithium batteries... it was $38 to make up for the difference in purchase price
I picked one of these up at lowes for $350, 5yr warranty http://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-C12RSH-12-Inch-Sliding-Compound/dp/B000E7UJRI

one of the best professional tools on the market, almost everything they make comes with a lifetime warranty, I've worn out very few of their tools outside of a drill and breaking a recip saw
read the lifetime service agreement http://ridgid.com/Tools/Power-Tool-Warranty

whatever saw you end up getting if it has a shitty fences it sucks. My fence is worth more then my saw and it makes some darn good cuts. Between those I would go with the rigid but their warranty is not all that great as some would have you believe. The lifetime tools really mean the normal lifetime of the tool like if the drill wears out over a normal lifetime its done and that is not covered. Fucked up they way they advertise is but start looking close at the way they word some of the warranties. I have heard some homerdepots just replace then some won't and make you send stuff in and wait but look up rigid warranty problems.
There is a local tool store around here called berlands and they will cut you a deal off sticker prices and have better selections then the bigbox stores. They even carry panasonic brand stuff. Most major brands use lots of panny parts and they make a hell of a drill for themselves.

I made it down to check out the DeWalt saw, and I don't know if it was broken, but I really did not like the way that fence works! It did not stay clamped down with enough pressure to not move around, and the saw itself looks very cheaply built.
Maybe I'm bias against plastic in tools, but I don't think I will go for a dewalt tool asside from their cordless drills. They just look and feel too cheap!
I like the fence the Rigid has, but the price that guy was wanting was too much for me to feel good about too. Especially with no warranty.
I am actually quite happy with the Haussmann I picked up at Rona. It is made from forged aluminum, and the fence is actually quite nice. I took the fence from my haussmann down to home depot just now and I found that it fits the Rigid table saw I was looking at. I like the rigid fence a bit better than mine, so I may just see if I can pick one of them up to use on my table.
The King Canada table I ended up getting for $40 is a very nice table! The motor needs replacing, its a belt driven saw blade, so I need to find a belt and motor, but everything on the table is made from forged iron. Nice and heavy. It has no fence, so I need to keep an eye out for that too. When my renovations are complete I am planning on selling my haussmann to pay for a new motor and fence for the King Canada.
Thanks for all the help again everyone

you can live with out a fence as long as you dont have to move it constantly, a piece of angle iron and a couple of clamps, just make sure you square it to the miter slot any time you have to move it and make sure the blade is squared as well
I've got 2 rigids that sat in the rain for more than 3 years, rusted tops, water in the motors, one has a bent case but they both work fine once I cleaned them up... I hate my brother's hitachi jobber table saw

I have not had the least bit of trouble with my DeWalt fence not clamping firmly. And although Pris is correct about being able to use a shoe or an encyclopedia for a fence it is a huge pain in the ass that will make you want to turn your saw into a boat.

keep in mind that it's only a small portion of their tools that are saws and drills, I've got ridgid tools that belonged to my pops that are older than I am and still in good working order after 50 years of work
I know contractors that dont know dick about anything other than hiring subs to do the work and selling a job, I do work for many of these contractors
