Exactly. Barely any atheists will profess to knowing for certain that no gods exist. Most would say that no good evidence for the existence of deities has so far been presented.
To the agnostics: Are you also agnostic to the existence of leprechauns and fairies? I've never seen any definitive proof of their non-existence either.

I'm nothing, altough I believe in a higher being.
I believe religion doesn't fucking matter, as long as you're a good human being.
What's so hard with that? Do you really need to follow something to be a good person? No.

Religious or not, I see not why it matters so much on such an obviously subjective issue with no real proof and no real ground covered through ancient philosophy to present day.
Indoctrination is obviously a problem, and most religions only carry over very loosely metaphorically into the present world. Religions stole off of each other and they all have their problems.
The fact people fight over something with such ferocity, when no certain answer can be found without brainwashing oneself into dogmatism, when there are more pressing issues is quite depressing.
I get just as mad at atheists thumping their idea toward people as much as bible thumpers. There is very little that can honestly be "proven" as reality as we know it is not guaranteed to continue as it was a moment ago, but we must assume it does or we will go nuts.
There are too many skeptical theories on why we could not "know" a god exists that have as much merit as anything else. No one will know, so people should just stop fighting, and worried about getting fisted by a giant arm in the sky, and concern themselves on what should be the focus of religion-improving yourself and humanity.

There is nothing wrong with being atheist or religious.
Most of the atheist posters are on the shroomery are faggots.
Ex. Can you believe these people are Christian? What fucking morons, they believe in a fictitious man in the sky,all intelligent people are atheist nowadays.
They are just as bad as religious fanatics it's disgusting.

I've never once had it happen and I live in a very liberal city. I've heard some militant atheists present their side in discussions on religion, I've read articles about atheist groups enforcing separation of church and state through law, but I've never seen an atheist at a park preaching the merit of evolution to people who didn't ask about their religion.

I certainly feel this way. People are always comparing militant atheists to religious fanatics, but even the most militant atheists are often presenting their opinion or world view, however fervent, in a discussion/debate/argument on the subject or a political issue where someone mentioned God, church, intelligent design, etc.
People seem to hate militant atheists and antitheists because they are outspoken about a view that apparently upsets the majority of the world. Openly expressing a fervent view that is seemingly opposite of transcultural values apparently makes you an asshole.

There seems to be a collective agreement not to challenge religious beliefs. Almost any other opinion can be challenged, but not religion. Probably because people sound foolish trying to justify foolish beliefs, so most people don't want to talk about it.

Maybe everyone hates atheists because so many of them demonize Christians with insane vitriol. Christians do it toward atheists as well, but with nowhere near the same level of hatred and aggression (despite whiny atheist protestations to the contrary).
If you listened to the conventional wisdom from atheists, Christians are all a bunch of hate-filled bigots who want to shove the Bible down your throat, force you to worship their god and hang homosexuals in the public square after Sunday school.
While the reality is, Christians, for the most part, are nice, well-meaning people who were brainwashed from their birth to believe something, and while they definitely think all of us non-Christians are going to hell, they really don't think much about us at all beyond that or give a shit what we do.
That's the crooked truth. People don't like atheists because they have such a vocal and obnoxious minority who is constantly spewing vitriol about religious people, particularly Christians.
And I'm an agnostic/atheist by the way. But I can't stand most other atheists. I generally don't like anybody who thinks they're better than everyone else, and that's unfortunately true of most atheists.
