what kind of saw do you use?
what is the thickness of the wood?
do you just seal with screws, then use silicon sealant for the cracks?
do you know any good place for the in-line centrifugal blowers in the US? I like how small those hoods turn out, as compared to the hoods w/ the squirrel cage's.

I let the wood cut at the place where I buy it. They have a very nice high precision circular saw, where they can cut the wood to 1 mm exact. One could never have it so nicely cut at home without expensive equipment and much skills.

5 mm plywood.

Screws and wood glue. And then silicon sealant, yes, althought the cracks are usually minimal.

So which tools do you use, total?
a drill/screwdriver
pen/marker for marking holes to prime
silicon sealant
screws
plywood
wood glue
blower
hepa

trying to get everything together, have HEPA on order - looking for blowers, and going to buy supplies soon.
I am also considering trying to make something similar to the unit you made with the commercial filter, just as an experiment. I would like to mount a plexiglass, or plastic (i.e. rubbermade) box, with one of the square shaped HEPA filter units which filter at 99.97%.
So basically cut out the back of the box, or make one with plexi - sans back. Have a small maybe 6" space to place hands through, from the front of the box, and mount it with duct tape, or something similar. Do you think this could be used semi-efficiently? (trying to help a friend out, on a lowwww budget ) Or can you forsee any issues it might have? minimum airflow req's etc?

where are the laths mounted? around the whole box, for support for the pressure? Do you use them as the plenum for the HEPA? or are they purely structural support?

If you visit the link in the first post, you will see the laths. They are for structural support, yes.
You can also use thicker plywood, then you don?t need most of the laths since you can screw and glue the thicker plywood directly.

very dependant on how good of care you take of the HEPA. The denser the pre-filter, the longer it would last, from what I understand.

I know that one...I have a $2800 Delta Table saw in the shop right now...along with about $60k of other wood and metal tools....I do precision wood work...within 1/32 of an inch....usualy try to get tighter....

You didnt mention it was Baltic Birch Ply wood....in the US its around $60 a sheet, its pricey but very durable.

Screws and wood glue. And then silicon sealant, yes, althought the cracks are usually minimal.
I do it a little differently, I seal and glue with Silicone, and use screws and brackets, screwing into the edge of plywoods are prone to failure, A biscut jointer and glue is another excellent way....or dowels, they allow more surfaces for glue...but you did make up for it with cleats...it's very good construction on the box Anno....

if it's kept covered when not in use, a good pre-filter is used, and you arent running it more than a couple of hours a day the hepa filter willl last about 2-5 years...by then it's lost too much efeciency and you'll boulf too much static pressure in the box, usualy bloing out a weak joint or the filter it's self

I think it?s beech ply wood, but I?m not sure.
It?s laminated in 3 layers, very sturdy, costs 30 Euro (33 dollars) per square meter, this includes the cutting in pieces as you want it.
The amount of wood needed for this hood was around 1 square meter.

The material cost was around 300 Euro all in all + shipping to the UK(around 50 euro) + 3 hours of work and dedication(priceless) = priceless
