Hi mycoelf; Very well put!
I'm personally not down on people that ask questions. All we have to do is ask ourselves if the question is better placed in this forum or if it's really a general cultivation Q&A thing. Sometimes people will post here because it well stay active longer here as compared to a general cultivation forum. If this is the case, it’s their bad! These things happen all the time and I don't feel if anyone is losing any real sleep over it.
What I’m personally down on is persons who Hi Jacks Advanced Mycology for the gratification of their ego. There are many of us that will come here looking for a quick answer so that we don’t have to do or own home work and research. Unfortunately many time the people that assume the roll of self anointed answer person are not always the best persons for this kind of role. With time they start to think that they are our better or they come back thinking this and will start to attack those who they feel have wronged them or who may be their rival for domination of this forum in their mind. Turning this forum into a kind of Jerry Springer side show! Best Wishes; CheeWiz

Hi RR; I'm not implying any disrespect to you or any other Mod here. I think you know whom I'm referring about. You and the other Mods have the tools to help tell you who is real or a player most of the times. That's way I say If one feel some thing doesn't add up in their mind notify a Mod. Just give it enough time that the pepper poppers you eat last night doesn't cloud your mind. The only thing worst than people making a poor choice as to what they post here would be people that would run to the Mods ever time they see a post they disagree with. Best Wishes; CheeWiz

It should definitely be open. If you want a closed discussion, there are mailing lists and/or free forums that you can use.
I think more mods would be good for the forum (I can suggest several names).
The possibility to change the forum structure is interesting. Maybe it would be better to call "Advanced Mycology" "Advanced and Experimental Mycology". Then more of the started threads would belong here.
By the way, this thread is off topic here. Better move it to Website Announcements and Feedback!

Most of the threads I move are related to cakes or casing techniques. New growers often think such things as dunk and roll are experimental or advanced, thus they post their questions here.
I've left this thread in place because if I move it to WAF, those members who actually read and post in advanced mycology probably won't see it. I know I never stroll down there unless someone sends me a link to a particular thread, such as someone bitching about the moderating up here. RR

I think it should be open to read. As others have said only posts relevant or threads that are genuinely advanced should stay, this would take a big effort on the mods part. I'm a noob of the 1st class but I enjoy reading what is discussed here and only once made the mistake of forgetting which forum I was in and posted (damn it).
The other suggestion I thought of was to put an obvious note on the reply page for this forum, stating something along the lines of 'STOP, think is this really relevant to the subject at hand'
cluttering threads and posts make this place increasingly difficult to use as a resource. I don't want to have to wade through 4000 threads and infinite word matches when looking for particular info. If the members with the greatest knowledge get to discuss topics without clutter then that (if I were king of the universe) is how I'd like to see this forum.

Perhaps it makes sense to have two subforums. One for 'noobs' such as myself (and I suppose the vast majority of the Shroomery's members) asking questions which might not belong in Cultivation, and another one for experts to post up their projects and experiments.
There wouldn't be a lot of overlap, and the question board would probably get the brunt of the posts people here complain about. On top of that, it would make it a lot easier to find interesting projects/experiments conducted by experts than having to sift through pages of questions before finding a thread you want to read.

i think that´s a good idea but the expert-section should be open to read for everyone. i love these interesting projects

That was my idea too - read-only for the general public but posting with either screening or prerequisites of the user.

That's pretty much the way it is now. We have advanced mycology(which isn't advanced cultivation by the way) and mushroom cultivation. I've seen no reason after reading all the responses to have another forum or sub forum. Advanced gets very little traffic as it is. RR

I see the advanced mycology forum as great tool for to learn from.
i'm just one of many many new cultivators that takes this hobby seriously and i would love to purse learning in advanced cultivation and mycology studies.
i normally never post in this area because im more focused on Learning from the experienced posters.
limiting this forum would hinder my possibility of furthering my education.
And its my strong belief that the shroomery was created to Share knowledge with everyone... im sure Ythan would be upset to hear that there are people out there that would want to take this away from new learners.
thats why there are requirements set on forums like the Marketplace, not on forum that are meant learning.
we have moderators who help weed out the BS that gets posted. it leaves forum open for all. its a community effort also to try and keep the BS down. so do our part and ask to get this thread locked.

Isn't there a contradiction in those two sentences?
Advanced mycology isn't going to shut out new members, nor are we going to lock threads discussing ways to make it better until everyone who wishes to comment has had his say. I'll lock it soon enough if it doesn't die a natural death, which is what usually happens anyway. RR

No, I don't think so.
He's suggesting to lock this thread which was created by a member who admittedly states, "I don't deserve to be able to post here" , which incidentally is a waste of space in the Advanced Mycology section (no offence to Peterthinks). He's not suggesting to lock the whole Advanced section.
IMO I don't think theres anyway to make this section 'better'. Why try and fix whats not broken?
Besides all this; wouldn't this type of thread be better suited here.
Again, no disrespect meant to anyone.
