Xbox 360 Slim. Discuss

So, i have a few questions.
First, will it play Original Xbox games?
Second, are there bundles, or is it just the system itself.
We know their are tons of Xbox and 360 games we want to play. It is worth it to buy one?
What are the must have titles? That are Xbox only.

Is it in 1080P? Will it play original Xbox games?
Those are my two main points to determine when or if i'll buy one.

Surprisingly, im finding lots of conflicting info. Best Buy is the only place that says 1080P, not even the wiki page helps.....
Personally, i dont care. My gf wants it for certain games, as do i, but we have over 100 games backlogged already for PS2 and PS3.
Thanks for helping!

If you have the cash to spare, I'd definitely get an Xbox slim. It's essentially a smaller 360 with advanced engineering.
I personally don't give a shit about it. My original Xbox just red-ringed, so I'm just shelling out $150 for a brand new "arcade" 360.

Don't buy a new Xbox 360 until they come out with one that's blu-ray compatible.

Now, does that mean Xbox 360 wont play games/doesnt even make games in 1080P? Or they simply wont play a Blu-Ray disc? We don't use our high end system for movies, that's what a DVD player is for......
1080P and Blu-Ray is not synonymous in my mind. I mean, is 720P the highest res for Xbox 360? I was looking at one in the store, and damn if it would say if it had 1080P capability. Will the Slims play original Xbox games?

The 360 is compatible with HDMI and resolutions up to both 1080p and 1080i.
I haven't heard anything about Blu Ray compatibility happening anytime in the near future.
Either way, I don't care because I don't own any Blu Ray discs- nor will I any time soon.

No ones answered, or no one knows. Can i play Xbox originals on it? Can you even buy Original Xboxes wo them failing with the RROD? Or is it a crap shoot?

Pretty sure the slim is backward compatible. I can't understand how or why they would nix that feature.
In shitty news, I just found out that amazon is no longer carrying the $150 Xbox 360 Arcade version.

up until the latter games that were major releases, most games were just 720p. blu-ray would be nice addition because I have a 1080p tv and regular dvd's look so clear they almost look fake and the blu-ray disc have so much more options, mostly space (~30gb). now if they made the portion that they didn't use rewritable, it would be an amazing deal.

Yeah, they discontinued all models. That's why i hope its backwards compatible. I cant seem to find NEW original Xboxes. I don't want the 360 if i cant play some of the original games.
PS Fuck Xbox anyways, but they haves games i wanna play!

I would. I'm getting one. Whether it plays the old games or not. And yes both the 360 and the new slim are 1080.

yeah but like unknown said there are pretty much no games that actually support 1080p. when you hook it up and set it to 1080p on an HDTV the games are actually run at 720p. not that most people could tell the difference..
*to clarify, they're 720p upscaled to 1080p. not native 1080p.

Are you talking about the 360 slim being "backwards compatible" with Xbox 1 titles, or older 360 games? If the former you can see this chart, if the latter there are no concerns as it will work seamlessly.
While it is true that most games do not run at 1080p the output of the device will be determined by the cable and the display it is connected to. It autoswitches to 1080P when you plug it into an HDMI source with the appropriate cable, last time I checked. I'm not sure if the Slim comes with an HDMI cable or a component breakout cable, so be sure to check if that is important to you. On the old models you had to pay $100 for an HDMI & audio breakout cable to use with their fucking stupid proprietary bullshit case

to get around that, go buy a off-brand (i.e. madcatz) cable like this one Xbox 360 Component Cable plug in that and you HDMI cable at the same time in the back of your Xbox 360 then plug the HDMI into you TV, and the Audio (red/white) cables into your surround sound/receiver, and it works fine. That's how I set up mine until I bought a high end receiver that has HDMI ins/outs.

You can find them on Amazon, but not for the cheap price anymore. I'm so pissed at myself for not getting the Arcade during the few weeks it was available for 150.

These new xboxes should not have RROD problems. It also has a larger hard drive and built in wifi(the microsoft wifi accessory costs around 100 by itself).
The price is also very good, about the same price as a regular xbox.
My brother got an Xbox360 Slim and gave me his old one.

The big deal is that the new ones probibly have more durable chips and probibly use less electricity to reduce overheating (I think 360s were invented when water cooling systems were coming in style). No RROD, no No-video problems (aka no more frying the solders on your CPUs/GPUs).
I have a hard drve from my old 360 will it plug into a slim?
Also you can get cooling units for old style 360s, I saw 2 styles at the store the other day, one pumping cold air in on the CPU side (opposite of the hard drive) and another that was a supercharged fan that fit on the back. I assume they plugged into the USB port. I'm pretty sure that if you use either one and your not afraid of cracking your unit open you should disconnect and remove the original fan. It would make the cold air cooling unit more effective (though sealing up the air holes near the input couldn't hurt either) and the super fan on the back will probibly just burn out the original fan and it's blades will impede air more than anything.
I'd be wary of buying used. There are apparently good fixes for the solder problem (RROD/no-video), but there is also a real cheap method called an x-clamp removal, where you remove some clamps that are (apparently supposed to be) bending the motherboard. You re-thermal paste the unit (a huge waste of money) and overheat just the non-responsive chip to remelt the solders. I did this and it got my 360 working again... for a month and a bit (using heavily at the time). If you do a shit job it will last for 2 weeks max. A pro will use a device which heats the solders up to a specific temperature to re-flow the connections properly. If you can know you got a re-flowed or re-balled system buy it, it's probibly bout as good as new, if not don't.

I'm mostly a PC gamer, but I play bad company on it, borderlands, forza 3, and that's pretty much it. I played enough modern warfare 2 on my brother's account before I got mine that I'm sick of the game. I also don't really care too much about gamerscore points. My brother plays games that he doesn't even like sometimes just for that.

For what it's worth, i was told by a gamer that owns the new Slim, and it is backwards compatible. You have to download a driver, and not every game is backwards compatible. He said the list of games and driver was at xbox.com.

I doubt it. Maybe if you dismantled the hard drive and turned it into an external HDD via usb connection.
There are no tray things on the top and bottom(or sides) for the old hard drives to connect to. But the xbox360 uses the same hard drive as PCs and external HDDs, so I'm not about to say it's impossible.

I don't fear opening a unit obviously but I may prefer an old one with cooling if I can get it cheaper, particularly if I have to mess with an external hard drive setup. A xbox slim with usb cable exiting the side connected to a hard drive duct taped onto the unit... it just seems kinda goofy even if I use colour matching duct tape.

You don't have to ducttape it man. Just find a compatible external enclosure if you want it to look pro.
Xbox supports USB storage now(even the original 360) so I imagine it would work flawless.
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=92&name=External-Enclosures
I'm pretty sure the xbox HDD's are 2.5inch because 3.5inch wouldn't fit in the xbox HDD enclosure.
