Convicted Drug Dealer Sentenced To 120 Years July 1, 2010 - wapt.com
A 30-year-old Canton man convicted of selling $40 worth of crack cocaine has been sentenced to 120 years in prison, Madison and Rankin counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest said.
A Madison County jury recently found Jermaine Mitchell guilty of selling drugs within 1,500 feet of a church, Guest said.
On Aug. 1, 2009, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received information that a confidential informant was prepared to purchase $40 of crack cocaine from Mitchell, Guest said. The source called Mitchell, asking to purchase the drugs, and was told to come to Mitchell's Canton home, Guest said. Officers fitted him with a video recording wire, and gave him $40, Guest said.
Officers followed the informant until he arrived at Mitchell’s home, which was within 1,500 feet of Ark of Safety Ministry Church, Guest said. The informant then went inside, where he bought crack cocaine, Guest said. The informant met law enforcement and turned over to officers the cocaine he had just purchased from Mitchell, Guest said. Mitchell was later arrested and charged in connection with this case and another sale that he had previously made, Guest said.
“This case is another reminder of the consequences faced by those who continue to sell drugs in our communities,” Guest said. “Mitchell has been convicted three times previously for selling drugs, and was on probation at the time these new sale cases were made. We must continue to send the message that we will not allow habitual drug dealers to continue to operate in Rankin or Madison counties.”
Mitchell has been previously convicted on drug charges in 2003 and 2007 in Madison County, Guest said.

I wonder if I've been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great puzzle!

This guy should have robbed a bank or something, would have possibly made more money and would have gotten a lower sentence.

There will still be crack dealers on the streets. Addicts will still be buying crack.

"Selling drugs within 1,500 feet of a church."
This pisses me off so much.
What makes a church special? Oh yeah, it's "God's house" and of course it's the governments job to protect the sanctity of that place.
Someone please explain how this does not violate separation of church and state.

Separation of church and state doesn't mean shit out in the bible belt. He's black too, which I knew without a doubt before I even opened the thread to see his mugshot.
That's just the fuckin way she goes...

This article makes drug dealers look worse than mass murderers and rapists. When is the law going to change?

He could have even shot the bank guard in the leg and he still would have gotten less time.

That's so fucked up! A kid over here was driving his dads car unlicensed at 130km/h and killed an old lady... 3 years. A black guy selling $40 worth of crack on probation gets 120 years! That just doesn't make sense. The church is irrelevant!

Apparently "Guest" said a lot of things in that paragraph.
A whole shit-ton of bible tinfoilerly. How can they add anything about being near a church and make it a crime?
Hell, half the vicarige rape children inside the damn church and the pope lets them off with it.

this guy should have killed ten people and robbed 3 banks and still would have gotten less time. This is ridiculous.I hope that narc gets his face blown off.2o years is plenty but 120 years is ridiculous.Guys we need to start a rally in every state to do something about this.Does anyone know how to start a organization to help stop the drug war.I donate at least 20% of my yearly income to legalization, and stopping the drug war.I want to be involved and do more but I have no clue where to start,if any one has ideas lets form a organization and stand up to stupid stuff like this. This guy may have kids and now the kids will grow up without a father and they'll end up in the justice system. This guy just needed help, was probably addicted to saleing drugs, but no one deserves 120yrs.If it had been a child molester he would have gotten 20 at the most.Bullshit

AAARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!! This shit pisses me off. $40 dollars equals 120 years!!!!! More weight of cocaine is confiscated yearly then crack but coke dealers on average spend a fraction of the jail time. Race? Economic class? Prison labor industry complex? Pick a reason, I guess it would explain.

Shit like this makes me want to avoid the entire midwest like it's the UAE. Madison can be a chill place, but fuuuuuuuck that. Just the other day that kid in Minnesota got 20 years of probations for some mushies and E, holy shit.
