think about it for a little longer before you decide it's just a convenience update.
What other system has millions of photos with the people in them identified by name and linked to a profile with tons of other information? If you can think of another, do you think it is growing anywhere near as fast as facebook's database?
Now they introduce a "convenient feature" that automatically asks you to identify all the faces it sees when you go to tag photos.
Tagging people on facebook and making it as easy as possible as a bad thing unless you trust facebook.. and in that case

It's funny that so many of you somehow think this was avoidable.
The internet is becoming sentient, one step at a time, and it's only speeding up as it goes. Get used to the idea, because there's sh*t you can do to change it.

The internet is all about sharing information. If you don't want it out there don't post it. If "the man" really wanted to know what you're up to online they wouldn't be using facebook.

Last paragraph of 1984, and a sad ending it was:
"He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother."

"tagging photos via facial awareness" is the last stop on the iron fist's control train though, huh?
Dude, it's just software that can perform a simple task any retarded human could do but doesn't want to anymore for convenience's sake.
A sub-dermal microchip in your body will be for "convenience sake" too.

Already doing that FDA approved it in 2004 here's one of the company websites here ps they not only help with medical files but security too, not too subtle eh

Of course they can use it if they want. Seems it only happens at universities though based on that wiki. I'm just saying most cops would probably use their plethora of other resources first.

Alright man, not a convincing argument to me at all though. Doesn't matter what they use first..
Look at all of the instances from that article where police(whether at a university or not..) used evidence from facebook: some are clearly better examples than others, but I see all of these cases and assume it must be widespread. Why would the police NOT use facebook? Also note I was arguing your statement "If "the man" really wanted to know what you're up to online they wouldn't be using facebook." because they do..

In February 2007, following the fatal hit-and-run death of freshman Carlee Wines, University of Connecticut campus police said they used Facebook to link the suspected driver, Anthony P. Alvino of Lindenhurst, N.Y., to the university. By following leads via Facebook, police learned of the connection between Alvino and his girlfriend, Michele A. Hall, a UConn student.[25] The Long Island, N.Y. newspaper Newsday reported: "Police traced Alvino's connection to UConn through his entry in Facebook, which listed Hall as his girlfriend."[26] Alvino was charged for the hit-and-run, while Hall was charged with helping cover it up and hindering prosecution.

In December 2006, campus police at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington were investigating the theft of two PlayStation consoles, which had been stolen by the two perpetrators of a beating and robbery on campus. They planned to raid the rented house of Peyton Strickland, an 18-year-old student at nearby Cape Fear Community College. They discovered that the other alleged robber, Ryan Mills, had posted photographs of himself on Facebook in which he posed with guns. Expecting "heavily armed resistance" at Strickland's house, the officers called in a SWAT team for backup to raid Strickland's house. When they arrived at the residence, which three students rented, they were not immediately let in. As one officer began to break down the door with a battering ram, another officer mistook the sound of the battering ram for gunshots and shot through the glass door multiple times, killing the unarmed Strickland and his dog.[19] The officer, Christopher Long, was not charged with second-degree murder by two different grand juries[19]. He was however initially indicted by one grand jury, which was later attributed to a clerical error and overturned. Soon after the incident, Christopher Long went on to receive $4,000 paid out by the Sheriff he worked under as well as a "Local Hero" award.

In August 2006, police officers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign arrested two students who were spotted urinating in public. One of the students ran, and the other was apprehended by police. When queried about the identity of the student who ran, the student in custody lied saying he did not know him. The arresting officer, upon talking with witnesses, obtained the name of the student who ran. He later found that the two were Facebook friends, and therefore that the questioned student had lied. This student was charged with obstruction of justice.

In February 2006, Oxford police were directed to the Facebook profile of a Miami University student because it showed the police sketch of a suspect in the rape of another Miami University student as the account owner's personal picture. The police arrested the student and charged him with inducing panic.
Quote:
In October 2005, Pennsylvania State University police used Facebook to track down students who rushed the field after the October 8 Ohio State game. As of November 2005, two students have been charged with criminal trespass for their involvement.[11]
Quote:
In November 2005, Kansas State University authorities announced that they were using Facebook to investigate a possible violation of the school's honor code potentially involving over 100 students. Students used the message board of a Facebook group to share class information without authorization from the professor.[10]
Quote:
In October 2005, pictures from Facebook were used to cite violators of university alcohol policy at North Carolina State University. Charges included underage drinking and violations of the dormitory alcohol policy, specifically holding open bottles of alcoholic beverages in the dorm hallway.
