what in the hell does being a "fan" over something mean you havent taken enough psychs??? thats the stupidest thing ive heard today.
To be a fan is to devalue yourself over someone or something else that supposedly has more worth and potential than you do; it's to be second-rate. Instead of buying into others' supposed sense of wit, brilliance, or insight, it makes more sense to create and cultivate our own. The drugs are singing this, as our the little gurus that we put up on pedestals and who pretend to know more about existence than we do (it's the same voice singing, tee hee!). Nobody has the keys.
protip: viciously dissecting someone who likes something you don't with baseless assumptions doesn't exactly convey any sense of personal enlightenment. ah, contrarianism; what would the cool people be in their minds without it? your naked disdain for joe rogan seems to be getting the better of you.
i thought rogan was funny on news radio, not so much on the man show. admittedly i haven't heard much of his stand up but i don't ever recall being blow away by him. as a proponent for psychedelics he seems to treat some of mckenna's ideas way too seriously and spreads a lot of misinformation on the subject because of that. i can't help but like him though. anyone living in the public eye with his candor should be applauded and his heart seems to be in the right place. i don't necessarily subscribe to his ideas, but i'm okay with him doing his thing. that being said, it's unfair of me to say anything about his podcast without giving it a listen, so i'm downloading his latest one and will share my thoughts when i'm done.

I don't dissect things, I'm always overly analytical -- it's a personality trait.
As for Joe Rogan, I have friends who really like him and follow all of his related media. You could replace him with Rick Flair, and my opinion still remains regarding selling your own worth for the perceived exceptionality of others. To value the creativity of others is well and good, but no one individual should take precedent over another.

I started listening to his podcast like 2 months ago. Lately I really like the fact that he's been having all these other stand-up comics on to talk about the biznezz. It's pretty cool hearing what real stand-up comics really think about stand-up.

Does saying you're a 'fan' of someone or something always mean that you think they have more worth or value than you? I always assumed it just meant you saw the merit in what they do and appreciated their work on a certain level... Unless what you're getting at is that psychedelics should reveal that we should be fans of ideas and not individual people, nor should we buy into the 'celebrity' culture that elevates actors, comedians etc. above the rest of society. Or something.

i agree that it's absurd to let any one person's opinions completely usurp your world view (i encounter a lot of that with terence mckenna in particular), but it seems to me that all the op was trying to say is that they like rogan and his work. i also think your point about counterculture gurus was eloquently stated. but at the same time i find it perfectly acceptable to be entertained and influenced by them.
i just don't understand this brand of elitism. the central component of psychedelic culture in a social sense is bonding and breaking down social boundaries. i've seen some people on here refer to the "roganites" in a very derisive way. as i said before, i don't personally subscribe to what he talks about, but i think it's cool that there's a whole other subculture of people out there who do and have probably been introduced to psychedelics through him. shit, i might join his forum so i can share ideas with some new people.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, millzy. I generally agree with what you're saying.
As for this:

Great game.

That was the basic gist of it, yea.

I don't think he likes this place I tried to register with my shroomery.org email and he never accepted my offer to join. Few weeks later I registered with a different email, he accepted then I got in.
