I don't know a goddamn thing about black people. Seriously. Never really known one. I mean, worked with a couple of black engineers before, but not on a daily basis. Had great respect for one of them (he taught me a lot of electrical stuff), but that isn't the same as really knowing what he was about.
I just finished McWhorter's "Losing the Race" and found it pretty upsetting.
His theory is that there are several related cultural phenomenon that are now holding black people back more than white racism. He thinks that these were caused by centuries of oppression being followed by sudden freedom. Lists them as: Victimology, Separatism, and Anti-Intellectualism.
Pretty self explanatory. The first explains people like Jesse Jackson (remember the "Black holes" greeting card thing recently?). It means that everything is interpreted as the black man being victimized, and is no longer a rational point of view in light of the progress made since the sixties. The other important part is that reading or putting in effort as school is somehow "not black"
As I said, I have absolutely no firsthand experience of this. My discomfort around black people is due to lack of experience.
Interesting fact from McWhorter's book: even surveys of black people showed that people (in 1994) would believe that "3/4 of black people live in the ghetto" when in fact the real number is 1 in 5. Blacks are not even doing that badly anymore, it seems, and the self-image of poverty lives longer than the poverty.

i was born in africa surrounded by blacks, i was never really racist but most of my family was. racism in africa is different than racism in america though, a lot different.
they're not as scary in the US, at least not all of them. you get a lot more bright eyed blacks in the US than in africa which to me represents sincerity. a lot more sincere blacks in the US IMO with a smaller population.
american whites who complain about blacks are just insecure about themselves, they have no real reason to fear blacks other than they're delusional stereotypes they learned from their stupid redneck families.
if you are a "nigger hater" then most likely you were handed a short stick by your uneducated and ignorant family, so no one REALLY cares what you have to say anyway - you're less culturally relevant than the people you hate so much which makes you even more uselss than you claim them to be. grow up and hate people who deserve it, not just "niggers"

i didnt want to bring in other people in the discussion but i feel it is good to talk about it. sorry for the long post 
first off i am not merely a bleeding heart liberal, i am a socialist.so racism, sexism and homophobia are very important oppression to fight politically. that said i lived in one of the very few towns in the world where native americans make a high proportion of the habitants (under 50% but over 20%) and i simply saw too many of them being awfully drunk, fist fighting, being typical homeless searching through thrashcans. now being a socialist as an ideology you understand that these phenomenon are caused by the environment that such people go through, that wars and the brutal genocide they have gone through is the cause of this.(because we consider what happened to native americans to be genocide, even if some part of it was out of our control we firmly believe that the western settlers worked hard on destroying their people and culture by every means possible) however, i simply cannot give them the amount of sympathy they deserve. this is where logic and feeling do not go hand in hand, i have seen too many of them having what you call bad behavior that i do not emotionally feel as much i should about their cause. i actually feel alot more sympathy to the american blacks. politically i still argue for their rights, some of their village are almost third-worldish in infrastructure and sometime worse.
yet again i will compare the black lobby to another lobby, the jewish lobby. by calling too many crime anti-semitic, people see the hysteria of such a lobby and it endangers the cause of fighting racism. in a pervert way these lobbies have the incentive for more racist crimes to exist, since it means higher funding, of course no good human would ever think like this. some also said that sometime it is better not to say anything about an event and allow society do it by themself. the jewish lobby where i come from is very reasonable and never succumbs to excess. i could not say the same about france, while i do not want to exagerate it either. i believe they made a mistake in the case of a comedian named dieudonné. the man was censored in the media following a short sketch where he played an overly radical israeli settler and ended with a nazi salute saying israheil. the jewish lobby of course did not do this by themself, but the media censored the man, many of his shows were cancelled, he was violently attacked and after all those incidents, the man can now rightly be called a black skinned anti-semite since he quotes books from the nation of islam. all the pressure,censorship and violence directed toward him clearly changed his mind, he apologized to a far-right politician which he often publicly opposed in the past because he said that he now understand what it is to be demonized in the media. this personally opened my mind that violence toward the fascist, at least the non-violent one, is absolutly ridiculous and in most case useless. and not only because they can paint themselves as victim, it is disgusting that a person can be wrongfully called extreme-right and be attacked on this basis and i believe the same type of things happened to us socialist in the first red scare and so on.
as for the comedian, he is a humanist who is strongly against racism. the irony is that he is now an anti-semitic humanist but the fact is. he has nothing against judaism or even jews as people, he is vehemently opposed to zionism that is jewish nationalism and he exagerates often, he has other facts skewed by reading too many nation of islam books that is why i think he still deserves the label of anti-semitism. albeit i doubt he would recommend violence against anyone.

I think you're mistaken about the scarcity of Indian towns. I lived on the Navajo Rez for a while and there were plenty of towns that were 90%+ Indian. I think the same would be true of many of the other reservations.
And yes, the Rez is a pretty sad place. No argument there.
In relation to the rest of what you mentioned:
Mocking the Holocaust is racist.
The Nation of Islam is racist as well.
Your "humanist who is strongly against racism" is apparently only against it if it's against black people.

I tend to like black people initially, due to my past experiences with them. You could call that "positive racism" but thats a nonsense term that makes as much sense as saying you "positive hate" your best friend.
I tend to like how black people look (either gender and all ages, its esthetic appreciation) and my personal experiences with them on the whole have been very positive, despite all that crap society tries to have me buy into.
What I dislike in black people is what I really dislike in all people: some have selfloathing and treat themselves and the world around them like shit because of it. Maliciousness, egocentrism. But really, all races have many people like that.
Throughout my life black people I personally knew made a positive impression on me. I don't specifically hate something about black people but I generally do like something about them: their appearance. And thats the only thing you can like or dislike about them really, differences in personality etc are determined by culture and individual, not by race.
Oh wait, there is one thing I hate about black people: the way most of society consistently stigmatizes them and gives them the bad deal in just about any transaction. If you are part of that climate of anti black hate do some soul searching for cripes sake and grow a brain plz. Its an out-of-control kindergarten bullying game which demolishes lives on either side of the completely arbitrary divide.

i think the 'war on drugs' will continue to be a huge obstacle in the fight against racism, because let's face it, the majority of people being locked up right now for drug offenses are minorities. as long as those unjust laws are in place, blacks & other minorities will feel justified in calling out 'white america' for their racism (rightly or wrongly, no matter how much progress we've made) because whites still hold most positions of power (yes, we got obama elected but i am talking about the overall power structure, federal & business positions). once the younger generation replaces the old and changes the laws, i have no doubt we will make a lot more progress on the race issue, and con-men like jesse jackson will soon find themselves out of a job because there will be a lot more black youth going to school instead of prison.

I don't particularly have much of a specific problem with black people (I hate most people) but what I do find surprising is how *most* black people seem to be massive underachievers.
Africa was the birthplace of humanity, yet its possibly one of the most socially backwards places in the world. I know this is, at least in part, due to the colonial domination of Africa by Europe over the last 10 centuries, but how the fuck did Africa mess its game up so badly?
The whole continent (ok most) seems to be just a picking ground for the rest of the world.
You'd think the cradle of humanity would get more respect!
Also, black culture (well, what the mainstream media portrays) is FUCKING AWFUL.

Everything you're talking about will have to be accompanied by a large cultural shift, it seems. If school isn't valued in "black culture" (which I put in quotes because it doesn't hold as true for black Africans or carribeans), then changing the drug laws won't be the sum and total of the change necessary.

I don't hate all black people. Just the ones who are all loud and annoying and all up in your face with their 'nigger style'. That shit is fucking annoying!
I'm not hating them cause their skin color, just because of the way they act. There are not many white people who act as retarded as those damn nigs I described above.
