True dat but I'll take my chances unless I can be leader   I can't go along with group mentality because I think groups of people are generally very poor at intelligent decision making.  They tend to be ruled by group semantics and I'm unlikely to agree with the survival plan the group comes up with.

My theory is that the biggest threat to me in this situation would be other people.

Don't forget about group panic. When the food supply tanks the food will be gone AT ONCE. It won't be like the third world where people used to hardships chronically make do with what little they have, its going to be millions of rich entitled westerners finding out their money won't buy SHIT anymore who are at once hungry and got mouths to feed.

With the solar flare theres an even bigger problem than food.  Most people cann fast for a month before collapsing. Its water. You need water at least every other day. When the trucks stop, the water pumps stop.

I'm on walking distance from a canal, and have the gear to purify that water. I'm probably the only one in a four block radius who does. I have a cache of drinking water at home.

If the trucks stop, the pumps stop. In 2 days theres NOTHING left at the supermarket. What have you got in your home? Food, drink. How much water is in your boiler? How much water is in your toilet reservoir? Will you put your cat outside to hunt and eat her catfood before you resort to butchering kitty? Will you like a fisherman sit in your backyard with a stick on a string and a box, catching neighborhood birds? "When theres no more room in hell the dead will walk the earth" sure, but when nobody is flushing and the sewer ain't pumping, millions of rats will take to the streets. Will that be your food, using your son's BB gun as a hunting rifle?
