good call, I think it may actually be a botched water snake though.

Its hard to tell, because so many snakes look alike.

I am awaiting the opinion of my wifes dad. He is somewhat of an expert on wildlife.

Yes. We asked a Trusted Identifier IRL.
He said he thinks it was some kind of water snake.  That they do bite.  And it would be more probable since our house is not too close to water.

Also, I read that ALL snakes in Texas will bite you. You just won't DIE from most of them.
Thanks for playing guys.

you can extend that to "all animals with teeth bite, and you won't die from most of them"

:congrats:

you don't have to be a dick just because you know more about snakes than us.
If you didn't notice, thread was made to ask you guys who knew more than him for info so that this doesn't happen again.

Don't be whiney because we grew up in the country in Texas and we learned that the only good snake is a dead one.

Trying to learn what's what here.
If you don't want top be helpful then don't reply???

"being a dick" was not my intention

It wasn't helpful to you to learn that animals bite?  That's some useful information that everyone should have under their belt.

seriously???

I've never been bit by a snake before so I didn't know that.
They've crawled up my pants legs, up the back of my shirt, and I frequently pick them up and play with them.
I'm quite fond of pythons.

But not some random 4ft long snake outside my bedroom window that's freaking my dog out.

You guys are acting like trampis is some awful evil snake killer that does this all the time.

Yep, it was 100% some sort of watersnake. I used to be one of those trusted identifier and snake removal guys in GA, so if you need some any more help with snakes feel free to ask.

Interesting thing about watersnakes: some species have an anticoagulant an their saliva so if you get bitten you'll bleed for 20-30 minutes if the bite breaks the skin. I found out the hard way...
