When i was fouteen I knew there was an extra in the chamber. Come on man, zombie movies and Counter-Strike. Also, I got to shoot the .22's & 12 guages in Scouts (and even earlier when i was like, 12) so i had a pretty good understanding of how a gun works. You wanna find out if there's a bullet in the chamber you should at least shoot the thing -straight up- I mean, come on...
I feel terrible for this kid. Nobody should have to suffer that. The best way to prevent this shit if you're a gun owner is to farmiliarize your kids with guns early on under close supervision and safe circumstances at the earliest age appropriate.
I also feel for the family who lost a child to someone who was too cheap to buy a gun drawer-safe...

thats just cause I'll have written over 30 page of research papers in the past month, as of thursday. I'm in a research paper mindset, anticipating arguments, providing supporting details, reinforcing previous assertions and stuff. You can figure out if he murdered his best friend or not based on two things, motivation, and remorse.
Was he motivated to blow his best friend's head off? Maybe, but I doubt it.
At that age life doesn't have a lot of things that can motivate you to do that.
Was he remorseful? He sounded hysterical on the phone, genuinely scarred-for-life. If he shows remorse on top of that afterwards, it's hard to argue. The kid probably had to go to a lot of therapy, probably lost a lot of sleep, maybe even developed suicidal thoughts. We'll never know the aftermath of this story, but it's safe to assume this was, legitimately, an accident.
