Ah.. psytrance is one of my favourite genres of music-- easily my favourite music to dance to. I'm a big fan of the full on, darkpsy, and oldschool goa too! but really I like most anything as long as it has 145+bpm. I remember the first time I finally combined lsd and psytrance parties, how amazing that was. I've definitely had some of my most spiritual experiences while out on the dance floor.
My journey into psytrance happened slowly. First I found Infected Mushroom tracks by searching for songs with 'mushroom' on limewire-- but I had no idea this was dance music, I thought it was just trippy music.
I made the connection of psytrance to psytrance parties when I went travelling India-- inevitably I was constantly exposed to psytrance. I remember staying in a few places where, if you listened closely, you could always hear the pounding bass of some full on playing somewhere.
My first psyparty was 24 hours on a hilltop several hours outside of Kathmandu. I was actually afraid to dance for most of the party-- I had never danced before to anything really and it was pretty intimidating. But in the last couple hours I just said fuck it, and joined the remaining hardcore dancers-- and became addicted.
Back in Toronto now, the psytrance scene is steady but not enough for me.. haha. You can generally expect a party once a month, but sometimes there will be three in one month, or one in three months. The parties are always great though, it's very hard to have a bad psytrance party-- usually only from bad crowd vibes or bad speakers.
Psytrance festivals are where it is at though. I plan to head to several this summer, once again there appears to be a significant amount in Ontario/Quebec, as well as the rest of Canada is I choose to make the trip.
Beanhead, that is pretty awesome you have constant psyparties-- I must admit sometimes I go through a drought and can only found psychedelic techno or dubstep parties.

Yeah were all ravers here in Belgium & holland. Freeparties, psy parties, acid/core/dnb/jungle. You name it we have it, underground really thrives here... Love your story, first goa I did I also did MDMA for the first time, I danced like a fucking madman
Artists like mushroom infected, logic bomb are a BIG *meh* though...

Funnily enough I asked this question to someone the other day as they all seem to be cyber kid esque in the states.
I would say more Krusties than wizened anyday
Much more of a Goa purist myself, but I do like 'Pan Psychic', from more recent times.
Yeah. There are some funny as fuck crusties around here

Ahh! Trying to remember how this sick tune went that the DJ mixed in on Saturday... So good! They slide it in at all the free parties I've been to. Such a good tune, need to hear it...

ah, the first party I went to had one song that play several times-- and it had this sample in it 'Truth. Peace. Love. Acid.' and when the beat would stop you would only hear that repeating-- faster and faster, over and over, higher and higher pitched UNTIL it would all just stop and there would be silence-- and then 'ACID! ACID! ACID! ACID!' you just hear that being yelled at you and at the same time the psytrance would come back on and that is probably the reason why I became addicted. i could never find this song though-- anyone have ANY idea?
also, the North American Psytrance Festival Guide for 2010.
I plan to be at eclipse and harvest, maybe shambhala, and maybe even a couple others in ontario area.

Care to divulge what festies you're hitting in Ontario? I'm from Ontario and would love to go to a good one or two this summer!

Yea man! these are the ones that I am going to for sure-- but I may end up at some others, you can never know for sure.
Shaman Tales Festival is still a maybe for me-- but is highly likely.
Harvest Festival isn't until September, but I went last year and will be returning for sure this year.
Eclipse Festival is an amazing psytrance festival in Quebec, an hour or two away from Ottawa-- if you are able to make that trip then Eclipse should definitely be a stop. It is the 10th one this year so you can expect big things.
I'd be down to meet up if you go to any. Very few of my friends in real life enjoy psytrance to my extent, so when I go to festivals I just find share rides and make friends along the way.

I'm gonna do waveform & glade this year, always good for the psy (despite it not being my favourite genre). Would love to go to sunrise, but its always smack bang in the middle of exam period so I can never go .
We throw our own free parties here although we try and despite our attempts to keep the music varied they end up predominantly psytrance. Did 2 last weekend, a warm up on Friday in a field with little 1k rig and then a slightly bigger all night jobby on saturday with 2k rig.
And here's some psy:
