Alcohol and weight?

Im not an alcoholic but i drink about 2 bottles of wine every night and sometimes more (a few beers). No big deal. Only reason is that im usually at university all day then straight to work as a supervisor with alot of responsibility and i like to come home after a long day and have a bottle of wine or 2 and something to eat. I also notice a hangover in the mornings, but I will throw back 6 advil and swig some wine and/or a shot of jack to get me going. No biggie. Anyway, I notice a stomach on me.
I was wondering if i was to cut down or if there are any substitutes i can drink which don't put on too much weight or if i should cut back to a bottle every night and a few brews and maybe a shot or two to lose the weight.

Unfortunately there isn't any form of alcohol you can drink that doesn't get turned into a bunch of empty calories. While regular beer is the worst for you (carbohydrates and sugars), even things like wine and hard alcohol will add calories to your diet. Among other things, ethanol is broken down into sugar by your body, which is then either burned for energy immediately or stored as fat. Drinking a fair amount of ethanol can therefore increase your caloric intake significantly, even if you're watching what you eat the rest of the day, and avoiding regular beer.
Maybe it's time to find a new DOC? Smoking weed may lead to you gaining weight too, but only if you give in to the munchies. It's also a lot healthier for your liver, having to process ounce after ounce of alcohol isn't good for it by any means.

I love how it starts with "I'm not an alcoholic" as you proceed to explain the habits of somebody who is an alcoholic. If you're not now, you will be soon enough, especially when you cure your hangovers with more alcohol instead of food. Hangovers are a mild withdrawal symptom. They're bearable now, but as you become more and more an alcoholic, they become life threatening.
Unless of course you drink more alcohol. But by that time, you're already fucked. Careful man. If you want to enjoy alcohol later on in your life I say take it easy. Alcoholism is no joke.

yep, by true definition an alcoholic can be someone that only has a single drink a day, what defines alcoholic in that scenario is that you NEED that single drink every day...

Well, I'm not sure if you realize this, but sometimes drinking can lead to excessive eating habits. Often eating things you may not ordinarily eat. I'm not saying you do this, but it's just a point. Also, alcohol breaks down in to sugars so whatever sugar you eat on top of the alcohol is just an added surplus in calorie intake. Not to mention the calories in a beer. That's why some alcoholics become diabetic.

Look. I'm not an alcoholic. You can point fingers, reinstate propaganda you've heard about what constitutes 'alcoholism', etc. I frankly, don't give a shit. I don't need alcohol. I just need to drink to stay somwhat sane. And what I'm not concerned about is my drinking, cause I have that under control. 2 Bottles of wine a night and a few brews is nothing! My parents drank an ENTIRE BOTTLE OF JACK DANIELS EACH, EACH AND EVERY DAY, WHEN I WAS GROWING UP! So...What I care about is my stomach. It's getting bigger. Let's stay on topic and STOP POINTING FINGERS! You judgemental pricks.

You may not be as big of an alcoholic as your parents, but 2 bottles of wine is a lot to pretty much anyone.
"I don't need alcohol. I just need to drink to stay somwhat sane."
read that sentence to yourself 10 times in a row.
a healthy individual does not need to drink to stay sane.
