Yes, that species does occasionally fruit in the warmer weather and I commonly found it fruiting in the green houses in the plant nursery I worked at in temperatures up to 27°c, after further study I'm now in agreement with Workman, I don't think this is P. makarorae but is actually an undescribed species that fits better into section Aztecorum rather than sect. Mexicanae, I also suspect that the specimens I found last season in the native Beech forest in Taupo are actually closer to P. caerulipes rather than P. makarorae and are probably an undescribed species also, they were found deep in a remote forest on fallen and rotted Nothofagus truncata branches, it's possible that it is the closest southernmost relative of P. caerulipes remaining from the days of Gondwana.

Very interesting inski and I'm very jealous of the fun you're having with all these new finds. Part of me wants to return just to help sort out the mushroom conundrum but the other part of me needs to stay here for a while longer. Maybe in Winter if I get time off I can come over and help with some forays and pick your brain. :zombie4:

ok so a question... if field mushrooms and the likes are showing themselves now in my paddocks, does that mean actives should be around by now or are the temperatures and stuff different? i only ask here as we haven't got a 2011 one yet
cheers

The field mushrooms you are seeing are introduced species and typically don't fruit in our fungi season which is April-August, if you do find any active species now they are most likely introduced, you may possibly come across something like this.
