intimidated at my new job
    #12109861 - 02/27/10 08:53 PM (3 years, 3 months ago)

so i just got a job at a large retail store as an "automotive service greeter"..

when i interviewed i specifically asked if it required any automotive or mechanical knowledge, because i have none.
they said no it didn't, that i'd basically just be checking people in and ringing them out.

but today was my first day and pretty much the entire hour that i watched the other guy, he answered a ton of obscure questions about tires and shit.
i asked him and he told me i would need to know some stuff, but that "i'd learn".
well i know for a fact i'm incapable of learning, because my dad was a mechanic and it just doesn't compute with me for some reason.

i'm intimidated because i can picture it now, all the macho guys who work there are going to treat me like shit because i'm incapable of learning "manly" stuff like cars.
i'm going to feel like a complete retard. :mad2:

i wish i didn't need this job so badly but i'm broke and desperate for income, and i live in a small town and this is like the only thing i could find.

anyone got any advice or anything?

just give it time dude, it will come to you if you stick with it. dont give up so easily dude... youre acting like a puss lol.

Incapable of learning?

That is retarded.

Don't sell yourself short, unless you truly are some kind of moron.

i suppose so, i'm just horribly uninterested in cars.

like i said my dad's a mechanic and has his own shop, if it came easy i'd just work for him.

Start fucking some hot chick that works there, and tell all of the guys about it. If you can't talk about cars at least you can talk about pussy

Bull fucking shit you do.  Not unless that person is your boss or you want to make friends with other co workers.  I can tell right off the bat whether I'm gonna like my co workers or not and if I was OP I bet Id hate them because almost anyone who is into cars is a fucking douchebag.  Just as OP described those type of people like cars because its the "manly thing to do".

Exactly, I get that vibe from most mechanics- and growing up around my dad's shop I've known quite a few.

They're the type of guys who love fast cars, motorcycles, nascar, drinking shitty beer, beating up homosexuals, and fucking blonde bimbos with fake tits. :beergirl:

I've never been close to my dad and I've never had friends that are like this. I'm totally different.

It's not that it's bad.. I'm just of an opposite mind.

I have little to nothing in common with guys like that.

I'm guessing you had a lot of freinds that were females??
Men are expected to have a little testosterone in their blood. If ya feel itimidated at work make sure to show some back bone. If they give you shit for not knowing cars tell them to get fucked. Even if you dont want to, just do it. I promise you they will treat you better if they think you'll stand up to them.No shit this is the best advice your going to get. You know I should charge you for this!!
