Take the foil off they dont need FAE right now but they do need GE. What temps are they at?

How long has it been?

They need air exchange and they should get enough as long as your lid is not on too tight, ive heard people say even then it still gets enough air exchange...But I always have my lid turned upside down with the white facing up and I do not tighten the lids all the way.

They need air exchange but its hard to keep fresh air from creeping in.

The lids don;t have to be loose. the 4 holes in the lid should be enough as long as they are unobstructed. heck I have my lids rubberside down and tight they are all fine

They need GE= GAS EXCHANGE not Air exchange

Turn those temps down to 75. 85 is quite hot

85 is just a little to hot to be incubating in you should take it to a max of 80, you should def take the foil off it is not nesacary after inoc.

70-75 might work for this mother fucker, but Ive had cakes grow faster at 80

85 might be too hot, but as long as its not higher than that it is fine.

85 is to hot 84 is to hot 83 is to hot. The inside temp of the jars is even hotter then the outside. at hoes temps things start to slow down and increase chance for contams. Why would I stfu i am trying to help the friendly people on this board progress in this field

The fastest cake ive ever had colonized was at 83 degrees.

70-75 will do it FINE, but not as fast as 80 USUALLY.

If you guys start fighting again I'll punch you both...If you want to be cautious....Put some micropore tape over your unobstructed inoculation holes the dry verm layer will defend against most of the contams anyway.Although I have heard of people growing their myc without the lids even on!(NOT RECOMMENDED)...Yes they need gas exchange or the CO2 build up will stall the jars.

Edit:Yes 85 is a bit too hot..Some strains do better at higher temperatures and some genetics prefer it...But I generally colonize at 75-77.Althgouth they will colonize at much lower temperatures..I find 74-78 to be optimum...And yes I have heard anything above 80 will slow growth...But I suppose if your growing cambos...That wouldn't affect them...like I said genetics and strains have something to do with temp.

Micropore tape can be used but generally its overkill and a waste.

putting micropore tape over the holes to me is overkill and jars do just finee withought them, if you keep the jars at room temp they will do just fine but will take a bit long but in turn have a lower chance of getting contams, utilizing temps like 80-85 will speed up colonization dramaticaly but in turn will increase the chance of contams just weigh the option and decide which is more important

you know what? ive had ziplock baggie "cakes" of manure beside my wood stove, temps up to 90F and they grew. the point of keeping temps at 70-75F is to help prevent contamination mold from taking over. and also for rhizomorphic (thick, rope-like myc) growth.

oh yeah, and another thing- why do you gotta act like that? your bashin, man. its not called for. if someone tells me im wrong about something, ill do my research, and go from there, not tell someone to shut the fuck up, from the safety of my computer. i dont see why people act like this on online forums. if we were all in person, i bet there wouldnt be one negative thing said, much less whats said on forums.

Here's a tip from when I used to grow.

Start your jars at a low temp, less than 76, but above 68. Once you see mycelium and no contaminants you can really boost the growth and raise temps to about 82.

Remember, it can be up to 5 degrees warmer in your jars because of metabolic activity+insulating glass.

If you want thicker/heavier fruits then fruit your stuff in the low 70's. They'll grow slower, but the fruits will be much MUCH nicer than if you fruited in the high 70's.

Peace

SERIOUSLY GUYS FUCKING STOP IT

this has been going on all day
cut the shit out

85,84,83 is too hot
mycelium growth slows way down at higher temps
its a proven fact!!! im not just makin this shit up

teamamerica, gas exchange and air exchange are two completely different things
you need to learn and understand what they are before you tell someone else what they are

as for the lids, rubber side up or down it doesnt matter
its all personal preference, i do mine down with the ring tight
and i have no problems

i have seen others do it rubber side up with the rings loose
it doesnt matter as long as you have gas exchange

As an added note, I use 3 inoc points of my jars and the myc just showed itself. i have micropore tape on the holes, would removing it increase myc growth rate?

didnt mean to hijack, just figured related info.

Actually if people read these www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11972138#11972138
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11972114#11972114

They will know everything not to do based on your info ranging from mid 80's for colonization and thinking Gas exchange is the same as Air exchange to telling people not to fan there FC's and the use of 6500K fluorescent lamps or any lights are not needed:facepalm: You go against everything that has been refined in the last few years and what the most trusted cultivators say. i really think the root of the issue is that you have yet to even grow a single mushroom

On a similar note...

With agars baby bottle LC...

It seemingly takes longer than any other LC that Deaner's done. Is it because lack of gas exchange?

yup

it helps if you dont fill it up as much so it leaves more air at the top and it wont stall or slow its growth b4 its done. :strokebeard:

speaking of LC's when i barely swril mine, it breaks up into a bunch of teeny pieces. i use 175ml of dist. water, and 1/2 tbls. of honey, jar wrapped in tinfiol, kept in the dark at 79F. it grows great, but it does that, is it normal, or am i doin somethin wrong?

noobie- i just sat and watched your avatar for like, 5 minutes. its so goddamn funny!!no, im lying its a :failboat::dumblol:

"Fresh air exchange" and "gas exchange" are stupid terms which only seem to confuse new growers. Somehow the expressions have turned to idioms here; "gas exchange" has come to mean "not hermetically sealed containers". "Fresh air exchange" has come to mean "gas exchange at a higher rate than 'the other gas exchange'". It should it most cases really read "lowering of CO2 levels".

I've seen "GE" (re-)defined as Gas Expulsion, which only makes a little more sense than Gas Exchange.

To answer the OP:s direct question: mycelium needs oxygen to grow.

Gas Exchange means an enrichment of oxygen in a more or less sealed environment, in order to prevent the air to contain too much C02. Mushrooms like rather high C02 levels, but the mycelium does indeed need oxygen to grow.

Fresh Air Exchange means a replacement of the whole amount of air in an micro environment, in order to prevent as much oxygen as possible.

The problem might be (about the confusion), that many people don't really know what it's all about.
They use these terms without actually knowing their function. In the end, the terms are actually legit, in my opinion. They pretty much describe what it's about.

With GE you exchange C02 with Oxygen, with FAE you exchange "old" air with fresh air. Of course air consist of gas as well, but the term "air" should indicate what it's about.

But maybe you're right... When you don't know what it is, it doesn't make too much sense:crazy:
