Saints vs Vikings
    #11847589 - 01/17/10 04:57 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

gimme score predictions and general discussion.

i still need some more prep time to make a proper analysis, but im saying

saints 27
vikings 17

the only person i am worried about is Allen. that guy has tenacity, even though he is a large douche with his roping steer shit.
but we got 315 pounders on the outside. im hoping bushrod can handle him aptly.

everyone but grant is healthy. the vikes looked nasty on the constant blitzes... but if we shut down rice like we did fitzgerald we should be ok.

think about it, the vikings are a lot like the cardinals: a great veteran qb and one badass WR... the only difference is AP is a little better than Hightower or wells.

what i do like is how much pressure the saints put on warner who had a much better o-line in terms of pass protection compared to the vikes.
and as for AP, dude is averaging 4.5 a carry, and leads the nfl for RB's in fumbles lost. beanie and hightower have better stats than that.

anyone think ray edwards will be back?

if he stays out then we can call it an even game with grant gone... even in the sense of IR.

gotta hand it to both teams for getting this far with so many healthy... that shit makes for some great games.

FYI, spread is saints -4.5

O/U is hanging around 53.

if my math is correct, the bookies are predicting:

saints 28
vikings 24

Bookies don't predict the score.  They try to predict what people are going to think.

Fishing lure manufacturers are not trying to catch fish.  They are trying to catch fisherman.

Also I hope every single ESPN pundit picks the Vikings to win. I hope they say that Reggie won't pick up more than 15 yards, that Bushrod will get flattened, and that Greer and Porter will get beat. I hope everyone brings up the 3 losses and the team history and generally laughs and scoffs right up until kickoff. And then I hope the Vikings return the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

Haha. Seriously, this is all Saints. AP turns over the ball way too much, and the Saints D are ballhawks (what are we, 2nd in the league in takeaways?). When healthy our defense is VERY stout. Our secondary is sick with Greer and Porter starting and Harper and Sharper in the back. Our linebackers are fully healthy and that showed against Beanie Wells.

I'm not worried at all about Jarred allen. 6 of his sacks came against one team (The GB packers, with a weaaaak offensive line). Think the Saints schedule was easy? The vikings played the following teams:

Browns
Lions twice
49ers
Rams
Chicago twice
Seattle

Most of his other sacks came in those games.

Vikings are overrated.

They are 4-4 away from home about to play in the strongest homefield advantage in the league.

That's pretty sound analysis.  I, too, have not been overwhelmed by the Vikes.  The only thing I'll fault you on is focusing on Allen.  He is not the only member of that D-Line.  That D-Line is overall probably the best in the league.

I think the Saints have a better O line, D lines are a toss-up but Favre is more likely to throw a wild ball under pressure and Sharper is gonna have some very sticky hands on Sunday

1) bookies of course don't predict the score, but you notice how they are riding the line between a half point on either side in their favor? they make a bettor choose strongly either way.

2) obviously you don't fish.

I have fished.  I've caught fish with hideously deformed and worn out lures that luremakers would swear up and down couldn't work because YOU NEED A NEW ONE.  Almost all of fishing lure marketing has nothing to do with catching fish.  If it did you would see a lot more science.

Which has nothing to do with my understanding of manufacturers' motivation.  They do not get paid per fish.  They get paid per fisherman.  Of course, it doesn't hurt if the lure works.  Even dumbasses will catch on eventually.

This is definitely going to be the toughest game of the season for both teams.

Both teams are explosive and balanced in both offense and defense...  When they are on "on"

Both teams have had weaknesses exposed and exploited.  Minnesota was destroyed by the Cards earlier in the season much like the Saints were beaten by the Cowboys.

The Saints obviously have home-field advantage, but Brett Favre has more than enough experience in noisy situations like that.  At the same time, no matter how much experience he has, it is going to be tough to play in the Dome.

Close fucking game.  I pick the Saints, but that's obvious.  This is going to be a close one.

I hope Reggie can string together two great games. I read an article earlier saying his knee surgery had hampered him and he only just started feeling 100% after the bye week. I kind of got the feeling reading between the lines that he had also been holding back some worried about re-injuring the knee. And he decided to blast the rust out of the cylinders during the Cardinals game. I wish he had done that earlier but each person knows his own body the best. He might have been too cautious and got into a rut of under performance. I think with Reggie his poor performances are usually more of a mental thing.

I want to see more of this:

I think the Saints as a team reminded everyone who they are last week.

Looking forward to the Vikes!!

All i can say is the Saints better bring their A game
Both these teams have good ass defensive teams

Well winners can lose and things can get strained
But whatever you change, you know the dogs remain.
One world, it's a battleground
One world, and we will smash it down
One world ... One world

This game is gonna be a huge smash mouth battle and i cant wait until kickoff:biker::yesnod::faded::highfive::derfase::smirk:

I like the Vikings.
They have Favre, peterson, a good defense, and good recivers.
New Orleans has drew Bress.

Fantastic analysis...

New Orleans has Shockey, Sharper, Meachem, Bush, Colston, Vilma, Greer, Porter, Evans, Bell, Moore...

New Orleans has the best offense in football, and their secondary is better than the Vikings,  Really, as long as they play defense like last week, I think their defense in general is better than Minnesotas (although that could be argued)

Oh yeah, and the Saints have Shawn Peyton and Gregg Williams.

And 60,000 fans screaming at the top of their lungs...

Good luck, Vikings, you will need it.

expect more like a  a vikes/cardinals game.  or a saints/cardinals game for that matter :smirk:

seriously though, both of these teams REALLY want this (as with any championship game), and both teams play great fucking football when they are really on and motivated.

no blowout by either team, it's going to be close, and probably come down to who has the ball last, or a bad call, or something like that

This season we've finally had some games where the bad (at least questionable) calls went in our favor.

Let's hope if theres any questionable calls this game they go in our favor too.

The Vikings are very banged up on defense. 3/4ths of their DL is questionable. Even if they play, they're not gonna be 100%.

I've got tickets to this game! Will be at the 25 yard line where Brees does his pre-game chant!

Lots of feelings about this game. I'm from south Mississippi. Brett Favre was my neighbor for many years in "the Kill" as Brett's hometown, Kiln, MS is known locally. (The "N" is silent). He was an all right guy.  These days he is probably pretty much what most people think he is as a human being. His teams played my teams in high school. They usually won. Ok they almost always won. I thought we were rid of him after high school. But oh no. He signed with USM for four more years. Then he beat my college team just about every freakin year! I still have memories of him running around down there just killing us! :crankey:

Well my school dropped USM from our schedule shortly after the Favre years.

Then my Saints were never much good enough to compete with his best teams until recently so it wasn't a problem.

Until now. Now he's in my team's way again.!!! I just cannot believe that after all these freaking years! It's a strange mixture of pride and annoyance.

Bottom line for me: He's had his time. Saints are past due. It is an incredible accomplishment to reach this point for a 40 year old. I know he wants it all but dammit it's OUR time now. Don't block my team again you old SOB!!

If the Saints HAD to lose to anyone it'd be his team but it won't happen this time dammit!!  :hi:

dumbasses. i never said it would be a call against the saints. Im hoping for karma.

on a side note, what are you guys doing in the sports forum anyway? it is obvious you and LS have absolutely no idea about any form of sports whatsoever.
you kind of remind me of those guys that dont know dick about shit but you think it helps to cover up your homosexual tendencies by chatting sports so you like to wedge yourself into the conversations so as to pass under the gaydar.
do you even have a team redstorm? or are you from detroit or oakland?

To answer your question, in football, the team I rooted for growing up was Green Bay.  They're my favorite professional sports team.

I'm currently living in Indianapolis, though, so I also have a soft spot for the Colts.

haha.

oh yeah, and the Saints are FUCKED.  Prince wrote a song for the Vikes just for this game called "Purple and Yellow" or some shit from "Purple Rain."

That's it, I don't see how the Saints can compete with Prince.

Vikings will win. Think about Brett Favr for a second. He won a Super Bowl for Green Bay back in his "prime", something the city of Green Bay has not seen for 30 years. Enter Brett Favr into Green Bay's biggest team rival the Vikings. The Vikings have never ever won a super bowl, they have been there a few times in the 70's but that's it. If the Vikings get past the Saints and win the Super Bowl, Brett Favr will be GOD. PERIOD.

GO VIKINGS LETSS GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Vikings 34
Saints 30

Brett Favr 3 TD's, 0 pics.

Wasnt peterson, it was Farve. Did you see the handoff? It was bad. I'm a Vikings fan as well, but it wasnt peterson that time. Although he does fumble a lot.

ythan, you rock dude.  i feel that my time at the shroomery was very positive and enjoyable, but this site is no longer for me. im not mad or upset or disappointed, i just want no part in a pg rated faggot festival.

it was almost maddening to see how many times the Vikings coughed up the ball, EVEN AT THE END OF THE GAME!

Saints won it fair and square. There will always be whiners in any close game.

And I think the Lions are the only other team to not reach a Super Bowl.

Sorry, Colts. The Saints didn't come this far to not win it all.

Sorry, Colts. The Saints didn't come this far to not win it all.

Saints better win the superbowl thats all I gotta say. If they dont I'm really gonna be pissed.

I was rooting for the vikings, but will definitely be rooting for the saints over the colts.  Damned turnovers.  Farve had all the yards the kicker needed on that last possession if he had just ran for the ten yards he had in front of him.

It was funny to see Vikings fans come out of the woodwork for this game.

I never knew they even  HAD fans on the Shroomery until just before this game!

I'll be waiting for the classy Vikes congrats following a closely-fought game.

But I won't hold my breath.

The Saints most definitely deserve to represent the NFC in the Superbowl, they've had a great season.
I truly hope they crush the Colts.

ill be rooting for my team, im not one for conjecture.  i mean, i make alot of calls all season long, but alot of that is being quiet and watching.

im not worried about the colts game, but they are damn good and gonna bring the A game.  saints will as well.

holy shit, really?! are you talking about the 1st quarter bullshit late hit call that the commentators tried to make look like it was on favre, but was actually on the rb out of bounds because a saint hit his shoe?
or maybe it was the holding call when the saints arms were stiff locked.
maybe it was that bullshit pass interference play in the end zone for the vikings?

you are absolutely fucking delusional if you think the vikings lost because of the refs. the only reason that game went into overtime was because of the refs trying to win that game for the vikings. go review that shit and watch where they spot the ball for the vikings every time: +1 yard. every. single. fucking. time.
you are absolutely bat shit crazy if you think that the refs had anything to do with the saints winning that game.

you cant knock a reciever to the ground when he is 1 step away from catching the ball... but apparently if you are the vikings you can get a PI if you trip all over the defender in the end zone.
and wtf is with the call for roughing the passer when favre still had the ball in his hands. im glad the saints made him limp off after that bullshit.

if anything the saints overcame the refs desire to win that game for the vikings and should be heralded for winning that game even in the face of referees trying their damndest to make that game go the other way.

Like I said before, Saints didn't come this far to lose. Once they're in the Super Bowl you better believe they are gonna win that mutha. Let the media and public doubt us all they want. That's what we want!!! We'll ride the crest of that wave of doubt all the way to the mutha fuckin house, babee!!!

:bitch: Oh and I'm pretty sure you cant call me a nigger in here. Might want to keep that shit somewhere else. I really dont care that the Saints won. But it would have been a better game if the refs would have done their jobs properly.

cite one play. you cant do it.

cite one bad ref call that went the saints way and I will show you 3 horrible calls that changed the game and caused it to go into overtime in the vikes favor. go on. read the rule book. ill pull that fucker out and prove to you that the saints never once got a decent call that game. and how about going back and watching the amazingly horrible ball spotting the refs did in favor of the vikings. I saw one run play, on 3rd down no less, where they gave AP about 1 3/4ths of a yard on the spot. then they have to call a booth review because the saints forward progress on a leap that cleared the 1st down by a yard might have not been a 1st down.

name something. seriously. go ahead, otherwise, stfu nigger.

The spot of the ball, the "pass interference" call on Ben Leber when the ball was uncatchable. The pass by Brees where the reciever bobbled it all the way to the ground and it hit the ground, but the refs decided it was a catch. There I named three, now quit being butt hurt and go suckle on your moms tit. Or better yet, get on your knees and suck Drew Brees's dick since we all know you want to.

someone name a play. please. i can name 3 big plays that were bullshit calls for the vikings.

sure, there were blatant holding calls as well as PI calls that werent called on both sides, but those balance each other out.

the spot of the ball? when, where? are you serious, did you watch that game?

and the PI call was completely legit, you cant tackle someone who is merely 1 yard away from catching the ball. read your rule book, that was a completely decent call. and if you would have watched the replay, meachem had control of the ball, but just held it to his hips.
every single one of your "calls" was booth reviewed with sufficient film coverage that should have been able to overturn the call if it were an incorrect call.

cant say the same for the 3 bullshit calls the vikings got their way though. saintys had to burn TO's and red flags just to get shit on for those.

and how did the refs blow it? when the saints got 88 yards of penalties and the vikings got only 32?

5 calls vs 9 calls and the saints averaged 9.8 yards a penalty while the vikings averaged about 6.1.

answer me that one.

One image that sticks with me is the referee helping Farve get his shoulder pads back under his jersey.

Another is this:

I can't sleep.

I'm too wired after that game.

Hey, you rooted for your team and were pretty classy. Hats off to the Vikings for a great season. Saints had to lay the wood on Favre to have a chance. I didn't like that aspect of the game but it had to be done.

Yeah, that was the Super Bowl for many people. As a Mississippi native and neighbor to Favre this was not my ideal scenario..I would have much rather had a rematch with the Cowboys and crushed them and the evil Jerry Jones but it is what it is.

This Super Bowl should see awesome ratings. Peyton Manning and a fresh team in the Saints with new faces.

This is how it should be.

awesome.

I'm wearing my Saints divisional champs shirt right now.

Music I'm listening to right now to try to sleep:

I've got blonde on blonde on my portable stereo..

It's a lullaby from a giant golden radio
