 Why are some people proud of being drug addicts?

It seems that I have encountered several people in my lifetime that are proud of the fact that they are drug addicts. They think life is some game and it is very discouraging.
I have dealt with addiction in the past and I can tell you it is no picnic. I was never once proud of the amount of drugs I would put into my body. That's why I only smoke pot and occasionally trip when the time is right.
Why do some people feel that their drug use is something of which to be proud?
If you can still be a productive member of society, then by all means go ahead and brag about your ability to maintain control, but don't brag about how many pills/grams/buds/etc that you can take before passing out. You only sound like an idiot when you say "I drank a fifth and ate 4g of DXM." And certainly don't complain about how shitty your life is if you can't control your habits/addictions. Don't try to blame your problems on someone/something else. It only makes you look sad and pathetic.
Are some people acting as addicts in attempt to reach out for help? Do they not just give a fuck? I can't stand the addicts that act as if the world owes them something. The world owes them nothing. If you are a useless contribution to society, then you have no room to bitch about your quality of life. Why don't you actually try improving things before you bitch about it?

lol. yeah. i was going to say life is a game as well..
i mean we were thrust into this existence for no rhyme or reason and after X amount of years we're gone.
although no one should be proud of an addiction.

People become alright with addiction when their addiction isn't affecting their daily life or livelihood in a negative way.
If I could smoke crack every single day, and still go to classes, get all A's, get a high paying job, have a girlfriend and parents who loved me. Well then...why would I ever quit smoking crack?
That shit doesn't last though, and the people that are "proud" of their addictions simply haven't experienced a crash yet.
Either that or they just don't give a flying fuck and they're proud of that too.

but many people are proud to be drug addicts, not because the drugs make them happy and they are proud to be happy, but because the person wants to be cool/accepted and drugs make ya cool.
i doubt that too many people are that independently-minded to be proud of doing drugs because its a fun way to live life...i think its more likely that they are proud of drug use simply because they want you to know how many drugs they do, they want to prove to you how badass they are
my friends' drug use back in the day made them very confident, it made them feel very rebellious and badass. they became addicts and once they are out of their old social scene, no longer performing their identity and seeking acceptance from an audience, they eventually realize they are dependent on a drug and become depressed and self-loathing

Being a drug addict doesn't make you more accepted. Drug addicts get shunned by society, so they sometimes look as themselves as outcasts, and are proud they don't conform to other people's standards. Kind of like why some people are proud they are gay. Also, being manic on opiates doesn't exactly help.

I don't have very many friends to be cool around while i do my drugs. 
I wish i did tho, the more the merrier.
No i don't do drugs at all because they make me feel cool. I just really despise sobriety. I'm pretty sure no one does actually. Everyone has their drug.
I am a very responsible person with drugs tho. Most people that know me have NO CLUE that i would even try the evil marijuana.
