 I need some PS3 Reviews.

I need some real reviews, if you can spare a minute, on PS3... I wanna know the real deal with the system from people that I know aren't working for Play Station.
I wanna get an idea of the actual worth, the games, any pro or con, and if I should buy it.

I have a ps3, its great. I use it for streaming media from my media server, only downside there is it does not play .mkv files natively, so i have to convert my HD media into mpg containers that it can play just fine, only takes a few minutes though since its just a container change not a full reencode.
The games are great, very high quality, and look amazing. The system runs pretty quietly and i've never had a problem with mine other than it locking up one time, in over a year now. As others, my friends got xboxes and had problems, so i avoided it, and went with ps3, couldn't be happier. Blu-rays kick ass, though still a little pricey, but you can find HD movie rips for a VERY low price, if you know what i mean.
Also, online is free and good, i've never had a problem on it, even after downgrading my connection to what i have now...I would personally recommend the ps3 over the xbox360.

I love my 60Gig OG launch PS3.
Price drop with some amazing bundles coming up for Black Friday(US only). Great games, great Blu-ray player and entertainment system as a whole. In my opinion it has great 'value' due to its functionality. After all, it only does everything.

Well, i love my ps3. Ive been through 2 or 3 xbox 360s when i finally just decided to geta ps3. overall the system/experience feels a lot more high quality. when i say this i mean the dashboard/GUI along with the features. Of coarse youve got the blu ray which the 360 doesnt have. I like how they controllers come with a recharge cable. As far as graphics go, they are the same as 360 if not better. The ps3 is an overall more powerful system and is capable of more than the 360 at the end of the day. When you look at graphics comparison sites on the wb for ps3 and 360, the graphics for ps3 tend to always look more white and washed out, but this is because of a setting that must be changed in the system properties. As far as games go, i like them... youve got mosst of the major titles for both like modern warfare 2 and skate 2 ect. also have some exclusives that should be pretty good like the new final fantasy. Online is free, and i like it just as much as xbox live. have not had a problem with it. only grope about ps3 is that it does not come with a headset. now that the new ps3 slim is out for 299$, yeah i do reccomend you get a ps3. i bought mine a while ago and its just an 80 gig for 450$ haha. so yea good deal!

Yeah, I have a PS3, and it's great. I love all the downloadable games, so many are so fun when under the influence of various substances, as I illustrated in this topic: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10057863/fpart/4. They're all exclusive too. Has some brilliant exclusive CD based games too, like MGS 4, Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet, and many more.
If you're choosing between this and a 360 though, just get whichever console anybody you'd like to play online with has. They're both worthy purchases. I wouldn't recommend a Wii unless your main aim is playing games in parties though.

if you want it to last, i would get the ps3...every one of my friends that has an xbox360, EVERY one of them, has had the RRoD on at least one console, with the one ultra heavy gamer on his 4th or 5th console now. Of them, 2 of them also have ps3, the ones that do, not only don't play their xbox much anymore, one because his doesn't work and he was out of warranty on the second RRoD he got, the other because he just doesn't play it much, but are still on their first ps3 without problem.
IMO, the 360 is great for online play, but so is the ps3, maybe not as many people online or whatever, but for free, it is damn good, i know i enjoy it. For one player games and multiplayer not online, the ps3 wins hands down, and with the inclusion of the blu-ray, its a no-brainer...i would not waste my money on a 360, though im sure some would disagree.

From my understanding, the premium services are just going to be extra features such as tv/movie streaming, early insider access, etc. The features we have now such as free online matchmaking and updates will continue to be free.
To the point made about no included headset, yes there is a controller (+ keypad addon) with a headset, but the ps3 is blue-tooth compatible and I have yet to find a blue-tooth headset that has not worked (25$ to 100$ range).
I personally prefer the ps3 to xbox360. I have fixed so many 360's that i have a small tote (my old incubator) full of X-clamps and bolts 
The ps3 overall is an entertainment hub. While gaming is touted as the main feature, media play-back is amazing! With the ability to use almost any 2.5" mobile hard drive, you shouldn't have storage issues.
With the free software available to stream (as well as transcode-on-the-fly) you can use your PC to host all your files and play them no matter the format (useful with mkv's and other large file formats).
I used to be a strictly PC gamer but changed my views after getting my ps3. Some games even let you use a keyboard and mouse to play (Unreal 3  ) I prefer my rpgs' and precision shooter games on my PC still (CS:S and WoW) but for pick up and play my ps3 reigns supreme , for me anyways.
Don't buy into the whole they never break thing, as the ps3 has (acceptable, mind you) a failure rate. No source atm
The older "fat" models have the YOD or yellow light of death, and tray issues. The newer slim versions seem to have a better track record and I have yet to physically know someone who has had a problem with one.
About exclusives; I have found that I enjoy ps3's exclusives more than the 360's. Drakes fortune is amazing on a 40"+ TV if you like action/adventure/shooters and Wipeout HD has been giving me hours of thrill and frustration for weeks.
The only thing I can really suggest is to try them out for yourself. Reviews are all anecdotal and biased. I own both the ps3 and 360. I only use my 360 to "try" or "test" games before I buy them. If i really like them I'll buy them for ps3.

holy shit... so online play is free with ps3?
been debating on which system to choose for the past few months... I'm hearing more and more good things about ps3
and what's this 'slim' version I hear about?... is it worth forkin out the extra $?

yea i think so... a lot of big games coming out this year, god of war 3 is looking to be epic as fuk, uncharted 2 was a cool game, the skate series is solid, a lot of good down-loadable games....

I just played the GOW3 beta and yes it is amazing!! I can't wait for it.
and you can download PSOne games at 5.99 to 12.99. not bad for legit digital copies of some games that bring you nostaliga; you even get manuals and such

I don't play games often, but I have a 360 and if I had to do it over again I probably would have got a PS3 for media purposes. PS3 has some cool exclusives which I think are about even with the 360. Free online play is cool, plus you essentially get a bluray player and console system in one.

its not just a bluray player and console system
it does everything
seriously tho GOW is looking pretty cool, but then i played danta's inferno or w/e and the story to that game seemed like it blew GOW out of the water, and the graphics seemed as good or maybe even better.
then after i played for a bit it seemed like a GOW clone and that really let me down, they should have just called it God of Inferno or God of Hell. a
but at any rate it at least had a fresh story to it, GOW is really getting lame after going through both of the previous games, and the demo was actually pretty sad in hind sight, all the monsters were from the first few games, massively improved sure, but it would have been nice to see something new, charge was pretty freaking sweet but i dunno it seemed most of the demo was to showcase graphics, but that left a massive gapping hole for the story which all the previous games could have used more improvement on, i hope im wrong tho and it kicks ass
