 Pillow Case or Cheese Cloth for Pasteurization?

Wellp, never mind, the cheese cloth ended up being like 8 feet long and 1 foot wide, so thats not going to be sufficient to ball up for 12 quarts of substrate. But while I am here I might as well ask.
Whats a good tek for pasteurizing coir/coffee/verm/gypsum?
And I know I should have asked this question a long time ago but...
Say I have 3 quart jars of fully colonized wbs. And each quart is filled 3/4 with wbs. 3/4 + 3/4 + 3/4 = 2 1/4 quarts of spawn.
If I'm using a 1:4 ratio. Should I use 2.25 quarts spawn with 6.75 quarts of bulk sub? Or do I go by the book and act like the jars of wbs are actually 3 quarts, and spawn to 9 quarts of bulk sub?
After 6 monotubs, I feel like I should know this by now. And I should also know about the pasteurization, but I'm a bit rusty and if I mess up one little thing my whole grow is doomed.

Pillow case or paint strainer bag. They carry these at most hardware outlets in 1 gallon or 5 gallon sizes. 5 gallon is designed to fit snug over a 5 gallon bucket. They're cheap too.

I'm still looking for a good tek, and an answer the ratio question. I was trying to find paint strainers, but lowes didnt have any 5 gallon ones.

Lowes does carry em, they musta been out of stock.
I calculate based on how much is actually in the quart, .75 quarts each in my case.
So 3 jars would be 2.25 grain spawn to 4.5 bulk. I like using a smaller ratio cuz I'm not very clean and like it to colonize faster.

If u have an electric oven, just choose the right temp and put your bulk/casing in a plastic cooking bag and stick it into the oven for the right ammount of time, i believe it's two hours.

2 hours? I would expect it to take a long time for the temp in the middle of the sub to get up to pasteurization temps.
Heating with water is so much more efficient.
As far as a 'tek' goes, this is it:
Stick sub in bag.
Put bag in pot of water.
Heat on stove till temp between 140-170.
Maintain temp for an hour.
Remove bag from pot.
Set bag on dish drying rack or oven rack over sink or similar.
Give it one good squeeze.
Let it cool overnight.
Use it.
Moisture content will be optimal or close to it. Don't over-squeeze when you pull it out. Plenty will drain / evaporate while it's cooling. It takes a long time to cool.

I tried pasteurizing a casing in the oven once and it took for ever. I have never gone that route again. I like the pillow case much better for a straw based sub. I like the jar method for poo or casings that you find outlined in RR's video.

For small trays I usually nuke the tray and all, let it cool, and add spawn. Works for me anyway.

Sigh... there are still so many points left out, my thread was jacked, and NONE of my questions were answered.
When you say bring to 160-175 degrees, what are you talking about? The water? The core of the substrate? Etc?
It doesnt matter anyways, I had the core of the sub at like 150-160 and the water at 180-190 for 2 hours, hopefully it was pasteurized successfully, I'm spawning tonight.

You got it right ezwider bring the core up to temp I like 140 and shut the heat of the core temp will continue to rise. I check mine every half an hour if the temp falls back under 150 I kick the burner on again. I then drain in the sink with a rack or some thing after a hour or two I put it in a storage tube that is clean and disinfected with alcohol. Spreading the sub out in the tube lets it cool quicker so you won't have to wait a hole day to get started on the next step. Once cool enough I take the tube into my clean room and spray with lysol before I open I Ware dish gloves that I have washed in alcohol. I make up pans at a 2:1 ratio for faster colonization. Cover pans with pres-n-seal and poke holes in it with a shish ka bob squire. Around 20 to 30 holes depending on tube size. This works well with edibles and I reckon it would work with cubes. If you have any more questions I would be glad to help.
I went back and read your OP so to answer your questions I would use the quart jars like in RR's video. Same concept as the pillow case. Load your jars up with you field capacity sub. Put your thermometer in the middle of a jar bring temp to 140 and shut off heat.
As far a ratio I treat jars as whole jars 3/4 full of sud and 3/4 full of spawn I call one. It take the guess work out of the math. And I recommend 2:1 as above real easy 2 jars sub 1 jar spawn.
