Should I buy an xbox or a ps3 with part of my paycheck. I like great online fps fights discuss.

bottom line, the ps3 is a superior machine..while xbox live does have a more robust online community, there are more than enough players on PSN and its free.
If your really into online FPS, your wasting your time with consoles anyways, the computer is top dog in FPS games, just a simple fact.

xbox - it actually has games worth playing - I can think of maybe 4 worth owning a PS3 for, but at least 11 on the 360.
Though tbh the PC is still where it's at!

I'm an xbox owner and I really like it, but I voted for PS3 because of the blu ray player and free online play. Plenty of good games for PS3 too.

i say ps3 all the way man. i have owned both and i was in your same position before i went and bought my ps3. after my 2nd xbox broke i got a ps3 you wont be disapointed...personally i like the playstation games better...all the best xbox games are available on both besides the xbox exclusives...ps3 just feels higher quality...better interface...free online.. you wont regret ps3

XBOX breaks like 54% of the time, but has better games.
My buddy bought one on release day and it has busted 6 times.

It does break easy but at least its easy to get replaced 
My brothers red ringed.. he just took it to the place where he got it, they gave him a new one free. 
I guess they just return the defective one to Microsoft and get a replacement.

yeah right I sold my Xbox and have never missed it or it's oversized controllers. The only thing that I even think I would play is Halo. PSN is free, the games look better, and the system is more reliable. My Xbox broke twice and my PS3 has had no problems at all.

resident evil 5
fear 2
tom clancys hawx (sweeeeeeet game)
& more
idk basically...most all of th ebest games are available on both platforms. there arnt many exclusives i can think of (besides halo and fable) that you would be missing..and i would rather play a game on the ps3 than the xbox...plus the new final fantasy will be coming out for ps3.

The only possible way this argument would make sense is if they were exclusives. Four exclusives for the PS3 eh? Like Uncharted 1/2, Killzone 2, LBP, MGS3, Demon Souls, Ratchet and Clank... Those are just off the top of my head.

If I had money for both I'd buy both, I'm not a fanboy either way. But I ended up buying a ps3 and I've been very satisfied... free online, great exlusives- Infamous, Killzone 2, Metal Gear, Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Little Big Planet, ect.
Whoever says there are no PS3 exclusives worth playing is a moron talking from like 2 years ago.
However... XBox also has some sweet ones as well like Gears of War, Halo, and Fable 2... they have a better online network, but you have to pay monthly so it's a catch 22.
I'd go with ps3, or if you've got money to blow- both. But ps3 first, for sure.

What games do you play that are only exclusive to the Xbox? I have both systems because my roomate has an Xbox, and honestly they are pretty similar. The Xbox exclusive games I dont like (like Halo and Gears of War), the PS3 exclusive I like some of (like GTA4 and Uncharted.
Ultimately the PS3 has free online which is the ultimate selling point and it has bluray.
Im way excited for Uncharted 2, should be fucking awesome

PS3 definetly, personally i prefer the ps3 exclusives anyway. Don't know why people like halo so much the online is good (plenty of shooters out there on a par tho) but the campaign is shit. MAG coming out for the ps3 250 man FPS games. Will be mad good if they get it right. Also FF versus 13 is still ps3 exlusive even tho FF13 isn't. God of war 3 will be awesome, little big is one of the best stoner games of all time simplicity at it's best. MGS4 is one of the best games I have played although it's not the kinda of game I could play through more than once simply because it's the storyline and way it's set up that just took my breath away first time round. KZ2 is one of my personal favourite FPS' although the online is not for everyone I love it.
Then you've got blu-ray, well made, reliable, better parts, better graphics and longer controller life. You get what you pay for at the end of the day.

Xbox all the way man, PS3 just doesn't offer the same experience. 360 has a way better selection of games, better selection of add-ons, better gaming community, and Halo 3. I mean, I could go on and on, like how the PS3 actually DOESN'T have better graphics, and how the connection to the online multiplayer sucks... and it's more expensive just 'cause it has Blu-Ray... but I wont  Nothing is better when I'm baked as shit then some Halo 3. Do it up! P.S PC's aren't always great for FPS 'cause people can hack.

Earth Defense Force 2017 fantastically fun game, something that really makes you smile and enjoy it, which is what it is all about!
The Outfit a low budget one but I had a great time p;laying it - it reminded me of Army Men if any of you played that...
Saint's Row Fantastic game,when I played it I expected a GTA3 knockoff, not amazing graphics and humour that takes me back to the first GTA. A mission where you have to go and throw yourself in front of cars and get $1 million of insurance fraud in 2 minutes? Brilliant! I had so much fun with that one
Saint's Row 2 Heard great things from my friends, and also gets good review from Yahtzee, which is unheard of! Again when I get the time this one is on the must play list!
Gears of War I only played it for 30 minutes, but it is on my to do list when I finally get a chance!
Geometry Wars I know it is on the PC now, and it may well be on the ps3? Either way it all started here, and is a really mesmerizing game! If have a 360 and don't own this... seriously

In the interests of equity, here are the PS3 games I want to play
Resistance: Fall of Man made the Church of England get stroppy, that means I'll probably like it
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of destruction I rented this for my ex-housemate's PS3. Absolutely fantastic platform game, possible the best since Spyro the Dragon - also made by insomniac, who are a bunch of geniuses. Eventually I will buy a PS3 for this game along
Ratchet & Clank I also heard they made a sequel? I'll have that too!
Drake's fortune Pretty bad reviews, but I'd like to give it a go as everyones mileage varies when it comes to games - Final Fantasy I think is an xbox exclusive? Either way I can't stand them, same goes for the Metal Gear Solid franchise, and the Splinter Cell (I can't adapt to 3rd person view, having started off on my PC with SkyNet, Duke Nuken 3D, Quake and Doom!
Oh and obviously the non-exclusives go to both - here I'm talking CoD 4, GRID, and L4D. However I would like to add that playing any of those 3 on anything other than the PC is a travesty, well maybe not Grid, but I can't imagine anything worse than left 4 dead on a console! I didn't count how many I named by the way, but it is time for me to get back to work :-(
As I said I'm a PC gamer through and through, the consoles are a nice unwind every now and than, but nothing beats a LAN party, some Counter Strike, Command & Conquer and the most manly of all games. The most manly game ever invented: StarCraft
One interesting thing though is the fact everyone starts trolling so much and getting worked up when it comes to games. It just shows how fun gaming is as a hobby that people can get so passionate.

Not even going to waste my time reading the sony fanboys' posts...
Ill give it to you straight, if you want a console that revolves around an online community and an overall better gaming experience get a 360. If your looking for graphics over gameplay and are a solo gamer go for the PS3.
Both have great titles and will continue to release them but in my opinion and from personal experience microsoft has many more exclusive titles and gamers picks than sony.
And as far as the RROD goes, ive owned 3 different systems(seperate households) and experienced RRoD on all of them around a yr after purchasing, but I was quite impressed with how fast they shipped the replacement back.. And supposively RRoD is solved.
BTW im not intending to bash sony in any way, im just stating the facts.

so all you got is halo, saints row, gears of war, and two other minor games, that makes 5...good call there, that is a TON more games than ps3, i concede to 360's superiority...lmao

People love to make a bunch of points about how one or the other is superior and then claim that "thems the facts". I say 'fuck the facts' and play the one you enjoy most. Me, I'm Playstation all the way. Have been since PS1. My biggest beef with xbox is the controller. That is the clunckiest, most unmanageable POS ever. But again, thats just my opinion, and we've all got them.

bottom line.. ps3 is the way to go. ive had mine for 3 years or so... its never broken. during the launch of both systems, outside of graphics, xbox had the ps3 beat, but now you can stream movies through it, use it just like a computer and web browser, talk to your friends in chat rooms...
so the ps3 is basically a computer that is superior to the xbox in about 90% of the specs, and can do every single thing the xbox can do.
in a nutshell, the ps3 has made the xbox obsolete now.... well it has one niche, apparently it is a halo player... thats about it.
I dont even like most of the ps3 exclusives (not that xbox exclusives are much better), but uncharted was so gay, i never understood, outside of the graphics, how anyone could like that game. never got KZ2 because i saw people playing it for about 1 week and they were back on cod4.
but this next round of exclusives are going to be badass, i cant wait for mag.

In all fairness I mostly just play street fighter 4 now a days, and I use an arcade controller. I play on the Xbox because my roommate has two arcade style controllers that work on the 360. I rarely play other games except occasionally Oblivion on PS3, though Uncharted 2 Im going to be all over

GranTurismo FTW. I had forza on my xbox1, and it was a sweet game, but i have yet to find a racing game that I have enjoyed as much as GT2 on the psOne...hopefully the full release of GT5 on ps3 will be awesome.

If you can afford to play the PS3 the way it is ment to be played with HDTV, beautiful screen etc then you can also afford to buy an Xbox 360 additionally.
360 is total bang for buck, great games, great online community and cheap.
PS3 is a beautiful peace of technology but carrys a price tag with it and if your buying it for its graphics then your probably going to want to buy expensive cables and television set.
Either way 360 i you can afford only one, PS3 if you can afford both (oxymoron anyone?)

other than less usb ports (2 is plenty with wireless controllers), and not being backwards compatible, the ps3 slim is the same price as the xbox 360.
if you dont have an hdtv... you probably have more serious things to worry about, like a meth habit or being homeless.
i bought my ps3 when it was 500 bucks and it is worth every penny of it. besides, if you want to get down to the nuts and bolts of the consoles, look at the difference in microsoft and sony... sony is a vastly superior company that has its hands in every single aspect of entertainment and then some... i hate the word, but the plasystation has so much potential synergy... fuck... potential everything that it will only continue to get better whereas the xbox hit its prime about 5 months after release.

I hear you man. I was a GT fan myself, but you HAVE to give forza 2 a try if you haven't already to know what's in store for #3. What I like about forza compared to GT is that with the physics/tuning aspect. Although GT is basically the same, I always felt that forza seemed a little more realistic. I'm gona be buying myself another 360 just for forza 3 cause my younger brother stole mine for his dorm room.

seriously. I just dont get how someone can say that the 360 is better than a ps3 and kiss their mothers with that same filthy mouth. Everyone always talks about how the online is better. FALSE. you would expect it to be considering (like idiots) you pay for it. truth is the psn has never had any connectivity issues(to my knowledge), has just as many players, and is FREE. Plus ps3 is just a better system overall.

if you spend more than 30 bucks on a short hdmi cable, your getting ripped, you can get 3ft cables on monoprice for $5, i got my CL2 rated wrapped with mesh that is 20ft long for like $32, along with a few of those 3 to 5 ft ones, my whole setup is hdmi, and i saved probably HUNDREDS by not purchasing from best buy, and another few hundred by purchasing my hdtv from buydig.com...

another thing to consider is that microsoft is working on tech to allow you to take gameplay screenshots and videos during every single 360 game, and then automatically upload them so you can watch them on the web/post them on youtube/whatever.
microsoft is consistently pushing the boundaries of the live service with services like this, netflix, and achievements.
if you want to pay $50 per year for xbox live, it is a much superior online service than the playstation network.
other than that, it's down to a few games and personal preference. you can get a 360 elite with an extra controller and 120gb HD now for almost $200. go to dell.com and use the coupon code:

Though it is, of course, reccommended to not use a controller for hours non-stop....
I dislike the xbox controller, i find it uncomfortable and gives me mad rsi (in the left arm tendons... and i'm a left-hander!!) with little more than an hour or two of playing, where as the ps controller i can use for hours non-stop without any trouble.
Note: i have big hands, so that could have something to do with finding the xbox controller uncomfortable.
Btw, Arkam Asylum is an awesome game, trying playing it on hard mode. Wish it was longer though and had more scenery difference.

I hate the D-Pad I guess. It's really inferior compared to the PS3, also the buttons in general on the xbox. Once again Im referring to SF4, its a lot harder to play on xbox vs ps3.

next, you can play games with better graphics right now on a $800 pc than you can on a ps3 or 360
and altho the ps3 can stream movies, the ps3 web browser is utter crap. notice hulu doesn't work anymore because flash is out of date.
so no the ps3 web browser is NOTHING like a pc's...even if it did have flash that was up to date it still can't compare to firefox with its plugin's.
and pc gaming is where the real gamers are, but the consoles do have great games since the dev's jumped ship.

If you can use a browser with a PS3, how do you type words into it? For searching, or writing an email or whatever?

CoD:WaW plays at 600p on consoles for example. GTA4 is 640p. Many consoles games are rendered lower and upscaled.
I remember playing CoD: WaW at my friend's place on his 360. Looked like absolute shit compared to how it looks on my PC. I'm not exaggerating either... it simply looked terrible.

first of all you need to have the right brand dvd drive in your xbox which is all luck. I know some brands of the dvd drive are harder to crack than others, some dont even have a program made for them. either way, then you need to get a raid card from somwhere and hook it up to your computer and run the appropriate crack. its a lot more trouble than you think unless you know exactky how to do it...
i was lucky enough to get the wrong kind of dvd drive, spent hours trying to crack it but just gave up after a while and bought a ps3 haha.

i have a nice gaming pc as well but i never really use it! thats the thing about pc's...it cost me a fortune to build it, and i mean once you get tired of playing FPS on steam and a few RTS games, then there isnt really much to play. as far as playability goes, thats where consoles shine. yes a computer can provide the best gaming experience overall, but you need to have top of the line components and its not really for everybody...does not have a wide variety in the types of games available whereas consoles have all types of games you just slide the disk in and away you go...i enjoy the simplicity over countless hours playing dust2 on CSS

oh i didn't say it wasn't bulky, but thats what i actually like about it. the ps3 controller is just to tiny for my big hands, as a result my hands actually start to hurt. i think im starting to get arthritisis in my hands so i pick up on bad designs/uncomfortable. and those thumbsticks are slippery, i have to keep readjusting my thumbs. but yah i guess it depends on the individuals hands on which controller will be better suited for them, but i think overall big hands like the xbox better because its a bigger controller and you don't have to reach to the center for the thumbsticks

PS3. Both consoles have their share of games coming out now, PS3 has some good exclusives lined up, I think as far as game releases go both systems are equal now, given that the Xbox360 was released earlier so it has more.
You have to pay for live, PS3 network is free and it keeps on improving, you can now access the XMB from in game and they got points and trophies now and other shit.
Playstation's hardware is better, that's a given... All I hear about with Xbox's is red light of deaths all the time, not to mention PS3's processor is better and uses blu-ray which is NOT just good for movies, it also has a lot more disc space for game developers to utilize.
Oh yeah, and MAG coming out? 256 players in one game divided into squads with objectives, on HUGE maps with no lag? That's a PS3 only exclusive by the way and it's going to be a big hit.

Have you played the beta? and it's only going to be even better comes release.
its not like each game is overloaded with people in one area, the size of the maps, squads, and different objectives that the leader of each squad commands the squad to go do, counter this. It really feels like you're in a real war this way.
Uncharted 2's beta is getting nothing but good reviews too.
