I was just going to create a thread about this but I figured no one would make it. On a site note, I can never log into shroomery on my iPod touch. It acts like I'm logged in and says "legallyhomeless's home" but I'm actually logged out and cannot click on anything without having to try to log in again. I get in like 1 out of ever 30 tries.

Yes please. I'm on my blackberry and it won't let me click yes because java doesn't work. I use shroomery a lot its kind of a bitch to navigate on here but doable, would be sick if there was an app.

I need an app for my Storm.
I use my Blackberry all day at work and it is a little hard to use the shroomery.

I've used a Blackberry while browsing the Shroomery and didn't encounter any major problems; the only thing that bugged me was that it was really slow.

The thing is, this would be a lot of work to implement properly, and in the near future I expect most mobile devices will render normal web pages without much trouble. So I'm not sure if it's a very good investment of time on our part. Remember, we basically only have one part-time programmer, and he smokes a lot of weed and is kind of lazy, or so I understand.
People always ask where they can get a copy of our BB, and they can't, since it's a hacked up version of a commercial product held together by duct-tape and magic. But sometimes I daydream about rewriting a clean BB from scratch, with all our functionality and more, using accepted best practices. This would certainly include accommodations for mobile devices, but it would truly be an epic effort. Since I'd be releasing under an open license, I'd need to figure out a way to recoup the opportunity cost of such a large project. I'm not so rich I can spend years writing a BB from scratch and then give it away without some plan to get paid in the end. But just so you know, it is on my mind. And if any corporate sponsors are reading, I'm ready to get started, I've even decided on the libraries I'll use and everything, all I want is living expenses.

i figured you would package a release of this BB once you basically removed all of the original functionality and replaced it with your own. some ten years from now, LOL. scary eh?
you have something good going here. surely some sort of truly profitable idea will come from your efforts.
my opinion only. im a business man, i always think about the money end of things.

I have logged in this once so that I can set the "last seen" feature up. let the faggots flow forth into OTD and have it. Its funny how they all grew nuts after I left. I'm not here, I'm not reading, but I urge you all to keep melting down over me. I know, I hurt alot of people, and they deserved it. epic win for me, epic fail for you.
ythan, you rock dude. i feel that my time at the shroomery was very positive and enjoyable, but this site is no longer for me. im not mad or upset or disappointed, i just want no part in a pg rated faggot festival.

Ythan, as smart as you are, why don't you work for Microsoft or something?
You could be making top dollar for the knowledge and patients that you have for programming.
Just curious

Mostly because I don't like working for other people, also I don't have a college education, and I really don't consider myself a particularly good programmer either. Web development in high-level scripting languages is easy. This would be a better question for Seuss.

Cool! I'm sure I'll need all the help I can get, I'll let you know if it ever goes anywhere.
Your offer is pretty much antithetical to your goal of getting rich quickly and easily though.

Okay so i'm going to dig this thread up a little. I've been browsing this site a lot from my G1 lately and it works alright, but an app or a mobile version of the site would make it a lot easier. Realistically though I know it's not gonna happen.
How about something like customizable mobile settings though? Like automatically turning off signatures, avatars, stuff like that to speed up browsing? I was thinking about just making a puppet account to use on my phone with the "Unstyled" skin and everything turned off, but it'd be nice if that could automatically be integrated into my main account.

Yeah that's much more feasible, I'll see about adding an option to toggle the BB into 'lite' mode.

I'd like to see a real app. One where I can scroll through the apps on my phone and click on a little mushroom icon and have it come to the BB.
After doing some research, it looks like you have to make them make/model specific. That's a hell of a lot of work for the 15 people that say they would use it.

I'm not sure how mobile detection is implemented but as long as it detects all mobile devices this would be the easiest most effective method.

Most smartphones allow you to add shortcuts to websites on your homescreen(s), I know I have one.

Sell support and installation/configuration help? Supposedly canonical does it that way, though I have no cue how much they make.
