I talk very fast, mumble, say random things, etc.
This is a major reason I don't go anywhere much.
Advice?

You probably have anxiety or ADHD. Get it checked.

think before you talk? stop smoking cigs/weed? stop drinking soda or other synthetic sugars? talk out loud and pronounce your thoughts? talk more with a closer friend you can connect with while pronouncing and organizing your thoughts. Lay of prescription medication.

I can see how it can be frustrating. I mean, people with all sorts of mental illness's who have difficulty speaking can be taught to project coherently, and efficiently. I think, since you're aware of your situation, you could maybe just coach yourself. Like, i guess, the first problem to solving a problem it admitting you have one, right? With that said, try to pace yourself more when you speak. Maybe buying some sort of voice recorder, and perhaps reading to yourself aloud. Then, maybe, try speaking freely, and begin playing it back until you get the sound/speed you're looking for and are comfortable with. Realize, that sometimes, your head gets ahead of your mouth, and vice-versa. Be patient, and coach yourself. And because you're so used to speaking on overdrive, speaking at a regural (slower) pace might seem unatural, odd, and maybe even uncomforable, but take into consideration that while it feels that way to you, you're actually communicating on a more 'normal' level. I mean that the nicest way possible.. lol

I don't really do drugs anymore.
I was abused as a child and I think it hindered my ability to develop verbal communication.

Don't give yourself psychological pity bullshit. Bah, blah, blah, I can't because of the past. The first step in speaking properly is being aware of yourself. You know you sometimes mumble or whatever. Watch yourself and catch yourself. Starting to mumble, well clear your though and try speaking again. You see the problem, now see a solution.

I can relate to you, but I constantly feel pain/tension in my jaw/chin area, and it always feels like my tongue is glued to my jawbone. I used to be very outgoing and extraverted when I was younger, but now I don't even like being around people all that much. Nothing ever comes out of my mouth the way it sounds in my head, and I've just given up, so now I smoke weed and spend my days all alone. #6 hit the nail on the head:

dude i feel exactly the same way, like there is constant tension in my jaw and base of my tongue, like it can never be fully relaxed, and sometimes when i get physically tired my speech drops off and i find it hard to pronounce long words and generally avoid long sentences.
sometimes my brain goes too fast for my mouth and i end up blurting out a stupid sound really quickly, double take, andsay what i wanna say, i think it goes unnoticed but other people could simply be being polite
i used to be a 4-times-a-week stoner but haven't smoked for about 3 months, my speech has improved dramatically since, so you can imagine how incoherent it was back then.
so yeh, im fit, healthy, drug-free and 18, but this speech thing really gets me anxious sometimes

I mumble and stutter my words all the time. IDK why. Possibly all the ganja, but I think my brain has way too much information that cant alwalys be expressed verbally.

My tongue/jaw feels more relaxed after I've come down from being high, and it's easier for me to talk. But while I'm high, I can barely say shit without putting a lot of effort into it!

I don't need that shit, I already have a hand that people can talk to, and a middle finger to tell them to fuck off.

I have the same problem... Honestly I think it's the fact that our minds go much faster than our body can coordinate our mouths... It's a blessing and a pain in the ass..
One thing, surprisingly that seems to make me talk more coherently, and not say stupid things, is by drinking a couple shots of some liquor.
My assumption as to why this works, is because it slows the mind down to a level where you not thinking about 10 different things at once...
I have ADD so this happens often.. My guess is you have either ADD or ADHD
Just really focus on how youre using your mouth when you talk, and if you focus hard enough youll sound just fine, IME anyway

Exact same thing happens to me too, and I was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and depression. Stimulants in low doses, mainly meth/amphetamine and alcohol make communication remarkably easier. I really think it has to do with the amount of weed I smoke though.
