How little you know me. Fact is, Obama has done almost nothing right since being elected, thus there isn't much positive to say about him. I support his efforts to get credit card regulation passed before the end of the month. See, I can do something other than complain. I honestly wish I had less to complain about.

The context of his post indicated he was talking about making guns a mental health issue. In terms of this administration's drug policy, it's more a matter of physical health. In any case, I think losing your right to bear arms is a lesser evil than going to prison for a long time(which could cost you your second amendment rights anyway).
I know you're committed to hating Obama because he's a politician and you have to believe that everything any politician does is rotten and evil, but can you just admit that something good actually happened here?

I can see this adding more stuff to the long list of laws.
Nothing will be taken off the books ,but more will be added........sounds like a good thing ,but i doubt it will work in our favor.

Nope, he was saying that because drugs are now a mental health issue, making drug users mentally ill, drug users (including cannabis smokers) lose their 2nd amendment rights and are no longer allowed to own firearms.

If something good happens here, then I will admit it. So far, I see nothing good and a whole lot that is not good.
I see an escalation of the "war on drugs" moving from the drug dealer to the drug user.
I see drug users being labeled for life as mentally ill. (Can't cure addiction, it is a lifelong problem.)
I see an entire new "drug court and rehabilitation" market set up to waste money. Now, instead of a $100 fine, you get to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to go to drug rehab. Again, we are talking about users, not dealers.
I don't see any real change. As I said before, drugs are still illegal, drug users are still incarcerated, drug prices still finance violence, etc. The only changes I see are all bad. A heightened focus of drug users. A permanent label as a drug addict. etc, etc, etc...
And I don't hate Obama. Hating somebody is giving that person power over you by allowing them to control your emotions. I dislike almost everything Obama has done since he has been in office just as I disliked almost everything that Bush did while he was in office. This has nothing to do with them being politicians and everything to do with them raping the Constitution.

There are several European countries who have the attitude of treating drug abuse as a health issue. To my knowledge, none of them have taken away their rights as a result. Your fear-mongering is unfounded.
And take some perspective here. This isn't all about you getting high whenever you feel like it. It's about drug addicts getting the help they need for their disease instead of spending long prison sentences. Drug courts have been shown to significantly reduce recidivism, and taking that route approach instead of the one we've had since Nixon is a huge step toward a more humane society. But you still can't get high legally whenever you want, so of course that makes Obama the Anti-Christ.

good argument man! I've felt the same way all along.
Im hopeful that in the long run, the war on drugs will shift gears and the sickness that plagues America (canada + mexico too) will .. lessen. I truly do think its realistic and that media coverage and public awareness/discussion is a major first step in the right direction.
Fuck, its totally baseless to say progress isn't being made, just because prohibition hasn't been repealed outright. The destination is not proof that the journey occured, you hear?
Obama is better than Mccain, and Gil (drug czar) is a hell of a lot better than John Walters!
